I'm kinda embarrassed to admit it, but I sometimes find out about big news on this board first! Like last week when former Pres. Reagan passed away, this board is where I found out about it. I don't watch the news on TV much, and only see it online when I pass by the Yahoo home page. Otherwise, I usually find out about big news from family, friends or on message boards! Is that pathetic? Oh well, works for me. :D

Yep! :bounce: There has been more than one time that I learned about news events here! I normally don't have the tv on during the day, but the computer is always on! :hyper:

Yeah, sometimes. Though I did sign up for a CNN e-mail of breaking news, so I have been getting that first now.

LOL Maybe I should sign up for that too.... Then I can say to people I heard "the news" from CNN not the DISboards! :o

I do learn a lot here, that's for sure. I do have CNN alert also, plus a few Google news alerts set. MSNBC is home page, so I see that many times during the day.

I saw the news of President Reagan's death on this board. Dan Murphy beat CNN Breaking News by about 2 minutes!

On 9/11, I was at work and trying to find out what was going on. CNN was impossible to get on, as well as any other news related site. I found out the latest news from this board.

when the Capital was evactuated..Dh called and asked me what was going on..(they were only told to get out.) So, I found out here why they were evactuated and told him.

But yesterday two of the buildings were evacuated again and no one here was posting about it.

So sometimes yes and sometimes no!

I have to say, without you guys, I never would have known the latest in baby names, so, thank you ;) :teeth:

No but seriously, yeah I do. I'm not big on watching the news, and I'm always looking at post topics and clicking on things, so I do learn about news stuff.

Count me as another one who first found out about the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 right here on the DIS boards. I too followed the events here as all of the official news websites were swamped.

No, but I like to read people's reactions to the news here.

I was at school on 9/11 and couldn't get any news sites on the net so I came here to find out what was happening. An aide just came by my room and said a jet crashed into the WTC but that was all she knew.

you guys keep me up on all the stars!! I had no idea that J-lo had gotten married or Billy Joel was arrested or the babies named Apple and CoCo. The Dis does keep me current!!

YEP--me too,,since I turn THE COMPUTER on and head to the DIS first thing...I GET it here first LOL..

side note here: Liz I sent ya a PM--but have to say--WONDERFUL PIC!!!

I gave up all news (tv, radio, newspaper) about 7 years ago. So unless I happen to see the headline when my DH brings in the paper (which he cannot live without) or catch it as I turn channels on the tv or radio, I only hear the news here on the DIS!! .......P

yes. I got a phone call about 9/11 and switched to MSNBC my home page. It was jammed. I switched to the Dis Board and begged that we be kept up to speed with what was going on. I am a receptionist and can't really leave my switchboard. Most employees watched our crummy TV that day and now & then I got a break to watch too. My first glimpse was when the first tower went down. I almost puked.

TennVon Tony kept me updated here, it was my only link to the world. So yes, there are a lot of us here someone is bound to know something.

Sometimes, but I'm always on Yahoo so I learn stuff from the news sidebar on their main page too.
