Do you know people who never take a vacation?

My Dad. When we were younger the only vacation trips we made were connected with his business. Later, after he sold the business, the only trips were to visit his favorite brother in law.

My DH is like that. He hates to take time off work and has always been that way, even long before I met him from what I'm told. He loves to work and can enthusiastically tell people stories for hours if you don't watch him but the other side of that is a reluctance to actually take time off.

We're used to him now. ;)

We love to travel. I do know people who like to spend their vacation time at home and think it's odd that we go somewhere! Also, I think some people may appear to have the money to travel...but really don't. I guess when you think about it, if you have a nice house and live in a nice community, it would be nice to relax at home! But...we have those things and I'm already planning our 2008 disney trip!:cool1:

My parents don't like leaving the house. They are serious homebodies. They say it is because of the dogs but I think my stepmom can't stand relaxing. Serious type-a.

We never went on family vacations when I was a kid. The closest we got was spending a week at grandma's around Christmas. We just didn't have the money. Then when I was 16, some friends of ours were relocated to Ireland for work (same company my mom worked for), and we spent two weeks w/ them. My mom took one week off and arranged to work from the Ireland office for a week. My honeymoon was the second "real" vacation I had ever taken, and last summer we took my mother to Disney for week (before we lived here) and I think that was her first "real" vacation since the week in Ireland!

My in-laws never take vacations. They haven't done anything that's longer than a day trip in over 35 years. I remember when they retired they started talking about buying an RV and going traveling. Well of course that didn't happen so whenever they start talking about taking trips I just chuckle internally.

US!

My wife and I were married young (Kinda) 24. My goal was to be financially set before we had children. We went on our honeymoon to WDW and then went seven years without so much as a sick day. If you don't know you never miss it. Last year we took out twins to WDW for 10 days. Now we have vacations planned two years out at least two weeks per year. :cool1: :cool1:

Life is too short not to have fun!:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

My Inlaws have NEVER been on vacation. Not even sure they HAD a honeymoon (I'll have to ask). DH had never been on a vacation when we got married (with the exception of camping ONE time with a friend of his when he was in school).

Inlaws had the means. They just didn't think it was important or necessary.

My parents took us somewhere every year. May have only been to Ohio to visit the relatives (we live in Illinois) but we went SOMEWHERE. We also did 6 flags that sort of thing.
I went to Disneyland when I was 5. Back again when I was 15.
I made it to WDW (finally!) when I was 30!!! Talked DH into going when he was 38. It was his first "real vacation" lasting TWO WEEKS. He really didn't enjoy it much (so he says) fretted and stewed about leaving the house that long. sigh.

He has vacationed alot since that time (although only 2 Two weeks trips since). He prefers short vacations.

I would go nuts if I didn't have time away. I try and plan a vacation at least once every 3 months. I work way too hard and put in way too many hours not to take at least a week off every 3 months.....

I know quite a few people including family members who rarely if ever, take a vacation. :confused3

I also knew people who vacationed one town over. I could never understand that one, but whatever floats your boat.

We probably take too many!

I live in a VERY small town. The biggest store we have is a Dollar General that opened about 3 yrs ago!!

I know a man who never went farther then 20 miles from here until he married He was in his late 30,s:eek:

My MIL. She thinks we vacation way too much (we try to do WDW every other year and a smaller vacation -in state or a state away - on the off years). She also thinks it's crazy that we go to the same place more than once.

My aunt who just turned 65 and plans to retire early next year. I think the farthest she has been to Pittsburgh was 1 night at Cedar Point about 10 years ago. I offered to take her to WDW (at my expense), she refuses to fly. I keep pointing out that my mom (her sister who passed away) didn't want to go on vacations at first but once she did it there was no stopping her. Doesn't know what she's missing. She spends her mandatory vacation time working on her house and sells back the rest.

We never took vacations either. We never really had any money, so we'd take of a week and do projects around the house. We took our first real vacation 2 yrs ago on the Disney Magic when it came to Calif. (just a fluke and we happened to have some money) It got us hooked and we have done 1 cruise a year so far and planning a trip to mexico next year. I so wish we would have started travelling earlier. I have no idea why we never thought about it before. Weird huh? And though we still don't have money, we just charge it 0% interest and make payments. It's so worth it. Life is short. I'm just sorry we didn't figure it out sooner!

To me, my paycheck is just the means to get me on vacation. I don't understand people who don't like to travel, as there are so many ways to travel...one must suit your needs and desires. Then again, I never was a homebody...home is where I do laundry and store my luggage! :rotfl:

We vacation at WDW once a year. We take weekend trips about once a month (thanks to Priceline!). Over Memorial Weekend, we drove an hour away to Newport Beach and spent time at a nice resort, just relaxing.

My bil and sil only take "family" vacations.. which means they go see her daughter or somebody for a weekend. They should have the resources, but I think they have had a lot of moving around, seen a lot of stuff, and now just want to sit and watch tv.

My family has been on one vacation, and that was one of those "family" things as well, and it was depressing because my mil was very ill, and passed away a few months later. We just keep running into problems that keep us from going on a "real" vacation... but 9 years without a real vacation is wearing very thin!

my INLs never take vacation. Growing up they took the kids to the lakes a couple of time, but that was it. DHs class trip to NYC was the first time he had stayed in a hotel and had left the state and had eaten in a resturant that wasn't a hometown diner type place.

When he retired 25 years ago at the age of 48 they were always going to take a trip to Opry Land, but that never happened. They will take time off to go and visit my BIL every couple of years, but he only lives a couple of hours away and they don't go or do anything so I'm not sure if that counts as a vacation.

I am afraid my DS is a little like that. He loved vacations when he was little. As he got older he never like to go. I just figured it was because he was a teenager, but he's 24 now and has wonderful travel opportunities that he hasn't taken advantage of. He lived in Germany for 2 years and never traveled to see the country even though he had rented a car for most of the time he was there. He lived in Texas and would never leave his hotel room all weekend when he had leave. His DFIL wants to go to WDW so much, that we will probably take her because he won't do it.

We don't travel as much as I would like because of time and money, but if both were unlimited I would spend all my time on the road!
