I am researching a vacation for a friend. It will be two adults and two small children. They want a villa or studio and the WDW website brought up Saratoga Springs as an option. So, back to my question...do you have to be a DVC member to stay at Saratoga Springs?
No. Disney's reservation system can book room at the resort once they are released by SSR. That is done when poeple exchange so there is usually inventory.
Definitely have your friend look into renting points...it will be a lot cheaper than booking through CRO. And, it's even more attractive now that the dining plan can be added.
Here is an example of how renting oints might save.
If youcall CRO, a 1 bedroom villa at SSR for June 11-17 would be about $2700 (including tax).
That same room costs 189 points. At the going ate of about $10 a point, that's a savings of over $800.
Now if the trip is Sunday - Friday (say 6/11-6/16), then the savings is even more (Friday and Saturday nights cost a lot more points) - CRO: $2260, DVC rental: $1350 (135 points).
Based upon my rough caculations you will save anywhere from 20% - 67% off the Disney rack rate if you feel comfortable renting points. Renting points has risk on both sides so you need to feel comfortable.
