Do you have a name that is either misspelled or mispronounced?

My DD is named Madeline, after my mom.... but it is pronouced MAD LYNN two sylables not three.... I keep debating about changing the spelling to Madlynn for school....

My maiden name was Smith...... I was amazed how many people wrote Smyth.... Now I have a lovely 11 letter SKI name and no one gets it right! LOL

Yep. I'm "Ginny", but I always get it written down as "Jenny" if I don't spell it out. It bugs me because the two names aren't even pronounced the same - well, actually, they are in Arkansas.

I also get a lot of people that read my name and pronouce it "Gina". I have no idea why.

The worst one is this -

A lot of people read my name and then call me "Guinea" - as in "Guinea Pig"! I get that a lot from the telemarketers who call - "Hello, may I speak with Guinea?" Or when I use my credit card at the store, the cashier will say "Thank you, Guinea." HELLO!! Have you ever in your life met anyone called "Guinea"??

Really, my name is not wierd, but it seems to confuse a lot of people.

My maiden name was "Myers" and that got mispelled all the time, too. Mostly I got that spelled "Meyers".

My DH is also Stephen and constantly gets Steven, but he usually goes by Steve, I'm probably the only person who calls him Stephen. My 21 y/o dd, Sarah, would tell people when she was three, "Hello, my same is Sarah, with an H!" I was very cute. My 19 y/o dd, Kimberly, goes by Kimmi. We never wanted he to be called Kim, but it happens all the time. She's always correcting people and telling them it's Kimmi. I call her Kimberly and so do a few people, but I'm sure she'll be Kimmi for her life, it just fits her. My name, Kelli, is always mis-spelled. I usually get Kelly or Kellie. My mom spelled it that way to that is looked feminine. My little sister is Christal, she always gets Krystal.

DW's name is spelled Leisa, but is pronounced like Lisa, and she's gotten some pretty funny readbacks on that one...

Oh don't even get me started. My maiden name was a simple 4 letter name. ROTH. Long O sound like row. But everyone said it roth like cloth. Even had people telling me I was saying my own name wrong. Now that I'm married, I think my married name is easier but people can never say it. Lindseth. Sounds just the way it looks...Lind....seth....Nothing silent. Nothing pretending to be another letter. Every letter representing itself. I get Lindsey all the time. Or even Linsith. So when dd came around we gave her an easy spelling of her name. Or so we thought. We spelled her name just the way it sounds Jazmin. No s, no e. Thought it would be simple ......(shakes head) poor kid. If they can say it right, they can't spell it. If they can spell it right, they can't say it. (Throws hands in air) We can never win.

Oh, yeah! My name is Beatriz and most people pronounce it "Beatrice". It is kind of hard to pronounce my name (Bay ah trees, roll the r) so most people call me Bea, which is fine with me.

My last name is always spelled or pronounced wrong, too. It's Steen and it's pronounced how it looks. When people see it they say Stein, as in frankenSTEIN. And when I tell people my name to spell, they always spell it Stein even though it's so simple to spell.

DD Isabel always gets her name spelled Isabelle. And some people call her Isabella. That drives me nuts!

Glad DH has a nice simple name, Nathan, can't go wrong with that!

OMG! My first name is Geraldine but everyone wants to call me Gerry. No offense but no. When I was a kid I always heard that Flip Wilson's charector was Geraldine. Oh and my married name, well lets just say it's very long and Russian! The funny thing is my DS is in a speech class and he can say it perfectly.

I get Jan, Janis and Janet all the time, but I don't care. I never correct anyone.

There are enough things in the world to get worked about--I am not bothered by my name getting misspelled or mispronounced.

People hardly ever put the second "e" in my first name: shelley It was hard finding anything as a kid with my name spelled correctly. All the pencils, etc. were: shelly

After many years of therapy, I'm finally over it!!;)

I am misspelled and mispronounced all the time. I have been called Jenna, Janea, Jannet, Jan, Gina...I could go on and on. For some reason people have a hard time with Jana and it's only 4 lil' letters.

My first name is almost always misspelled....Kelli...that i will get you every time.

My last name..a good old fashioned Irish name...is butchered by every telemarketer on the face of the planet. I consider this a blessing because anytime my name is mispronounced, I know that I don't want to speak to the caller, so, I automatically respond, " she's not at home, may I take a message?"

DD' s name is Kristy and is always spelled wrong. DH's is really Lucky and is constantly thought of as a nickname. DS is Joe, so no problem. And mine is Ellen and I HATE absolutely HATE to be called Helen!!!!!!! Nothing wrong with the name is just isn't mine!

Last name is Lilienthal-----We had a page once for my husband that went-------Page for Lillian Thal ---Lillian Thal you have a call. Name sounds exactually the way it is spelled. ( And people wonder why I still use my maiden name)

PattyN

Have you ever gone throught life with 2 names as your first name? Mary Jo.....it is not Mary.......

I get Laura all the time. I stopped correcting them. lol

My maiden name is too difficult to look at and try to pronounce, and to difficult to pronounce when you are looking at it.

I just tell them what it is and say, yep, that's how you spell it. I think I'll keep my married name. It's simple.

My name is mis-spelt or mispronounced all the time and it drives me crazy:mad: especially when it is relatives who spell it wrong:mad:
My name is Johann (pronounced as Joanne).

Our last name is constantly misspelled. Even when I spell it for them it comes out wrong 90% of the time. Sigh.

When I first met my DH I knew immediately how his last name was spelled (without him telling me). Guess that was some sort of sign that I could have that name myself! LOL!

My real name is Caroline (pronounce the "line" - most people pronounce it like Carolyn)

The name I go by is Carrie, which people don't mispronounce, but they never spell correctly! There are SO many different ways to spell Carrie. Cari, Carri, Carry, Keri, Kerry, Kerri, etc
