Do you have a bird?

Oooops.... Sorry

Well, I have 2 bird in laws, a Goffin cockatoo (Rosie) and an African Gray (Lucy).

My IL's have given my their 3rd bird, an umbrella cockatoo named Dolly, but we haven't actually taken custody of her yet. I am her favorite person in the whole wide world. I have even been honored by her throwing up on me on 2 seperate occasions. She doesn't talk, well, she makes sounds like she's talking, but it's not a language I know! She can say Hi pretty well.

Lucy has a vocabulary that is out of this world. She is only 3 I think, and she talks a blue streak. Hundreds of words. she whistles Andy Griffith too!

Rosy is a sweet heart, but she is needy. ALways craving attention. She becomes the tar baby when you try to put her back in her cage. She loves riding the "birdie rollercoaster"

Birdy mom to two cockatoos. A Moluccan and a citron. They should be called fire and ice.

The Moluccan is a perfect angel. Sweet and shy, does not talk, is the most loving undemanding bird you will ever see. Even non bird lovers fall in love with this extremely kind and shy bird.

The citron has to be a descendant from the Hitchcock birds. :rotfl: Pure fire. Talks, laughs, and makes demands. He was a biter when we purchased him from someone who was concerned with the safety of their new baby. Years later, and more bites than I care to remember, we have become friends and understand "no biting".....at least no bitting me, no one else will go near him. He watches TV on my lap, cuddles under my chin and I don't think I could love him any more if he was a child.

I know you other bird lovers will understand, and those who are not bird lovers will just write me off as another bird nut. :rotfl:

I used to, but he's my parent's bird now. Cockatiel named Arthur. He used to have a companion named Sarah, but she's at the big bird feeder in the sky now.

We have 2 birds...canaries, I think. They are the typical cheapy ones you can find at any store: blue and green. Nobody cared to name them so they ended up being called Pete and Joey. Chunkas (our cat, really named Wesley) ripped out one of the birds' tail feathers so he had an $80 surgery. (The birds are worth $4 together, at most).

Man are they noisy! It's funny how just placing a sheet over their cage keeps them quiet. I don't really 'get' birds. Dsister worked at Petco and just brought them home one day.

(Update: they are parakeets)
It sounds like you have a couple of parakeets. Canaries are usually all yellow!! By the way, if they are parakeets, look at the nostrils. If they are brown it is a female. If blue the bird is a male.

I had a canary up until a few years ago. He had a Beatles hairdo (well, feather-do) on his head. He was sooo cute. :( He's gone now though. :( I came home one day and he was just dead. I don't know what happened.

His name was Ringo.

Did you have his cage near the kitchen by any chance? Sometimes birds can die from the odors of cooking oil, or kitchen cleaner (the aroma they give off)or if you burn some foods and the kitchen gets even a little smoke in it.

FYI- If you own a bird, you really should look into getting BIRD TALK magazine. I have no financial interest in the mag. but it has tons of information in it that will really help you, novice to pro.

Bird Talk will also print pics of your pets if you send the pictures to them. My parents (stepmother is a little nuts) have 18 birds. Amazons,Cockatoos,African Greys,Mackaws, etc. and she has sent numerous pictures of the birds to them. :)

These birds have made it though so they no longer travel anywhere for maore than 12 hours. The birds eat more than $300 worth of produce per week, she is constantly cleaning their humongous cages or perches, but she loves those birds.

I have an african grey parrot too!! Her name is Baboo. It's kind of a strange coinsidence(sp?) with yours named Boo, because I call mine boo sometimes.

She's six years old and can say lOTSA sayings and words. She calls me mom, and swings on her rope swing and sings, "justa swingin' " She barks, calls my dogs and talks up a storm all day long. She probably knows about 50 different words.

Bird people are the best..just the best I tell ya' :goodvibes

I have a Nanday Conure named "Disney" I found him in my backyard about 11 years ago, he was the first bird that I have ever owned and I had no clue whether he was male or female, No on claimed him and somedays I know why.........he can be really loud! He loves me, and he is a better watch dog than my dog! He really is quite the character..........."says give me a kiss" and whistles all the time. Living in FL I am fortunate to be able to leave him on my outside covered patio otherwise I think the racket he makes would drive me off the cliff! But I would miss him if he were not here, tried getting him a couple of friends, cockatiels, parakeets but they either die or escape! So his friends are the cats and me.

You mom sounds like someone I would like to know. Bird nuts are kind of like Disney nuts, you just can't get enough of the " fix" :rotfl2:

I don't think I have ever met a (true) bird person that I didn't like. :sunny:

I have two birds.
Mad Max my cockatiel. He whistles the Spiderman theme song, the Chicago Bears fight song, the Oscar Meyer weiner song. He wolf whistles at you whenever you walk in the door. He's a hoot. We rescued him from a 10 gallon fish tank at the local Wal-mart.

Wyatt Earp is my Blue Crown Conure. He's my big spoiled baby. He eats just about any people food we will give him. He laughs like my dh. He loves to watch the history channel, especially if they are showing world war 2. He's never learned to talk, but he growls and grunts and you know exactly what he wants. And he is LOUD!!! We got him from a lady who's son abused him and she couldn't stand watching it anymore so she told me to come get him one night when her son was at work. The poor bird was in a filthy cage with nothing to eat but sunflowers and peanuts.

We recently lost our parakeet Morgan Earp. He was my strong little man and I miss him terribly.

We had a bird named Birdle for about a month. Then my cat thought she was Spiderman, dove onto the cage, hung off the end, pulled it down on herself, scared Birdle, and broke her leg. Many, many $$$ of Vet and kitty ER visits later, my kitten was fine and Birdle passed away. We think it was because of post-traumatic cat stress in his life - or because he was really old when my mom got him. :)

I have two male cockatiels. I have had Randy since I was about 4 and Spike since I was about 5 (I'm ALMOST 23 now). They squeal all the time and they bend over expecting the other bird to scratch their head and if they don't, they fight. :rotfl:

We have a green Quaker Parrot named Charlie. She is little but yells very loudly. Up until a couple of months ago we just figured that she was a boy. You can't tell with Quakers unless you have them tested or if they lay an egg. We called her a he for 7 years and then she layed an egg. She talks some-- hello, night-night, yells my daughters name, what ya doin', come here, etc. and whistles part of Andy Griffirth song. Last year, for some stupid reason, I thought I didn't need her anymore and tried to give her away. A friend at work took her and I cried for three days. She let me have her back, thank goodness. That showed me that I really did need her. I will NEVER do that again.

I have a little parakeet named Spike. My fiance bought him for me as one of those, "Because I love you" gifts. :goodvibes I had him for a yr. now, & he's a yr. & 1/2. Spikey won't let you pet him that much, but he'll stay on your shoulder & give you kissies. I'll put one pic of him, & the rest you can view here.
