Do you ever forget what you read previously when reading a book?

Inspired by all the reading threads:

Sometimes when I read a novel, I end up re-reading several pages that I read the day before in order to continue and know what the heck is going on.

Am I early Alzheimer's or does this happen to others?

I do this sometimes. Mostly at night when I am starting to get tired. :)

I hate to admit it but yes, and it drives me nuts!

Happens to me. Especially when I read stuff for school. Guess those are too boring for me to remember. Too bad you have to be able to remember for the tests.
It happens when I'm reading interesting books if I'm tired.

Me too...if I go more than a few days without reading, I always have to go back and re-read the chapter before.

Happens to me too. Especially if for some reason I am not able to finish the book and wait a couple of weeks to start reading the book again.

Happens to me all the time, mostly when I'm reading right before I go to bed.

I have to do it all the time too...........but I don't let it anoy me, I just think of it like watching a miniseries or tv show and it's the "previously on E.R." lead-in ::yes::

Sometimes when I'm reading for classes I forget what was in the paragraph I just finished reading :teeth:

The day before? Heck, I usually have to do it at the same sitting! Like, "what was that other guy's name?'..Or ..."what was it that she really said back there...?" !

I'm so glad that I am not the only one who has to do this..

Yes - I do that too. That's why I hate novels with too many characters, or novels that jump back and forth between storylines - I can never remember who's who and what they're doing.

I crave simplicity.:p

no....but sometimes I forfot that I read a certain book, check it out of the library, start reading it...then it hits me. :p

Sometimes I read the same book a couple of times and it takes me several chapters to realize I've read it before.

Yep. I do that too. I really worry when that happens. In fact, at the library yesterday, I was looking at books wondering if I'd already read them.:p And no, I wasn't sure, so I passed them up.

I actually was just doing this yesterday. It had been a couple of days since I read a certain chapter, so I went back and reread it!!

I also find myself reading certain paragraphs twice in a row. I may start reading a paragraph and immediately forget what I just read, and I have to read it again to take it all in. I hate that - my mind will start to wander while I am reading sometimes, and I have to reread what I was just reading!!!
