It depends. Every summer my whole family gets together for 2 weeks (we're 20 total!) and we stay at my father's house. The house is huge so we have plenty of rooms, plenty of bathrooms.

I do not like sleeping at any other house. I also do not like people sleeping at my house.

There always needs to be an 'other' choice. Mostly though I don't like staying overnight someone elses house unless its my Moms house.:)

Even as a child, I hated sleepovers. I hated going to people's houses and having them come to mine.

I feel the same way today. I'd so much rather stay at a hotel (even if I'm just going to my parents house). I really don't like having guests stay at my house either-- it's just too much work and throws everything off schedule.

I married into a family of "sleep over people". They're like freakin' nomads. :rotfl2:

I'd rather just come home if it's within reasonable driving distance.

No, because the houses I would usually stay in are either fmaily or close friends.

That being said, I'd stay 3 nights or less, not 3 weeks.

We just stayed at DSIL's in FL, and had a nice time, but it was a 2 night stay.

Wow, it seems almost overwhelming the number of people that do not like to stay overnight in someone's home. I noticed that some of the responses said things like, I prefer my own bed, etc., so this question basically has a couple of ways of looking at it. The first would be that you are close enough to get home and the second would be, if you were away from home and had the choice of staying with friends or relatives OR a hotel room, which would you choose.

For the first part...if I can get home, that's where I am headed.

For the second part...Hotel! Always and forever. I need my space, I need to not feel like I am causing extra effort to someone else by my presents. No matter what they say...sleep overs cause someone a great deal of unnecessary work. I can never seem to overcome that, so to make all of us feel better I will bite the bullet and spend money on other accommodations. I hope that doesn't insult the offeree's, but I just do not enjoy staying no matter how luxurious the accommodation may be.

ok so I thought it was only me. I hate it. I will drive home at 1am to avoid staying at someones house.

It really depends on the person. I like when people stay over at my house though. (:

I don't mind staying at my mom's. Probably because we visit there 4-5 times a year, normally for 3-10 days at a stretch. I'm used to it, we have a routine, and she has a place for everyone to sleep. She also disciplines like I do and my kids know that they can't pull anything over on her while they're there because we're "vacationing". ;)

Anywhere else, I prefer a hotel.:thumbsup2

I prefer a hotel, but I can do it if I have to- don't mind staying at my parents', although I'm usually ready to go home once the trip is over (usually a week or a little less). I'll be staying at my grandparents' this summer if my trip to visit them pans out, but after 4 nights we're going to spend an overnight in anaheim to give us/them a break.

I actually didn't mind spending the night at my best friend from college's parents' house (we were roommates freshman year, so sometimes when she went home for the weekend I'd tag along) but they had plenty of room so I had my own bedroom and bathroom.

I don't mind having people stay with me, as long as I know them well... and it would be better if I had a guest room. Having my roommate's friends sleeping in the living room is a bit weird.

Absolutely. I even felt funny staying at my parents' place when we evacuated during the 2007 Witch Creek fire in San Diego. We prefer staying in hotels when we visit friends and relatives.

It is home or a hotel for our family. I don't like being or having a house quest.

I didn't vote because it all depends on the situation.

I don't like to stay in people's homes that I don't know well. In example, when my MIL died two years ago, the couple across the street offered up a couple of empty bedrooms to our family members if they needed them. Very generous on their part but if it were me needing a place to stay, I'd rather stay in a hotel.

I will stay most likely in a family members home unless there are umpteen people already staying there. At Christmas, we went to Chicago and stayed in a hotel while the rest of those that traveled there stayed in my SIL's house. There were 12 people altogether with two bathrooms. There was no way that I was adding four more people to that pot.

I thought I was alone too, rgf. I'm surprised at the # of people who prefer a hotel. I hate staying in someone else's house. I like to be social, but I like my space. DH is the complete opposite.
