Do you call back every number on your caller ID?

My dd was calling me tonight and realized she had dialed the wrong number so she hung up (she is 9). About 30 minutes later we get a call from the number she accidently dialed and they wouldn't id themselves. I remembered that last week I had dialed the wrong number and hung up by the first ring. They called me back 2 hours later and asked me who I was????!!!! Also I am room mom for my dd's class. A few weeks ago I called a girl's mother to ask for Halloween donations. She didn't have a message so when she didn't answer I hung up. A few hours later I get a call:
"Who is this?"
me: I answered with my name.
"Why did you call me?"
me: Who is this (keep in mind I had called about 30 people that afternoon for various reasons)
Refused to answer and hung up on me. Calls me again and reams me out about calling her and where did I get her number.

Then I used my caller ID and matched it with the lady I had called earlier.

Are people really that paranoid? I can see calling someone back that repeatedly calls, but 1 time....come on!!!!!!! I had caller ID and if I see a number I don't recognize I just delete it. What is the reason for calling back? I figure if it is that important they would leave a message. And I certainly don't get my panties in a wad when a 9yo calls me by accident.

I just look the number up on the internet. :rolleyes1

people are freaks sometimes....my DH called the wrong number once and the woman called back asking me who I was and saying that I called her. Well, if I did and didn't leave a message, it must not hve been that important lady!
I couldn't imagine calling a number onmy caller ID and asking why they called me! Who the freak cares?? :sad2:

No, I never do. If they want to talk to us, they can leave a message or call back. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Arggh! I've been in similar situations as yourself and it annoys the heck out of me when people call me and ask "who is this?" I never, ever call anyone back who doesn't leave a message--family included.

I've had people do that to me too. IMO it's really rude. I'd be willing to excuse it if they identified themselves and asked I had called (even then I'd think it was extreme for a one time call), but to anonymously demand to know who you are is really rude!

I don't even CHECK my caller ID, unless I am at home when the phone rings- then I am call screening. I only call people back if they leave a message on my machine.

our caller id usually tells the name who is calling us also. If i know who it is i will call them back but if i don't know the name i usually don't bother.

No I never do.

I have had someone call and ask me who I was. I just said, "You called me. Tell me who you are!" LOL. It was funny. I was laughing when I said it. Then we both laughed and it was a non-issue.

It does crack me up to think someone called me and demanded to know who I was. No, "Hello." or anything. Wacky.

I only even check my home caller ID and messages every few days (everyone calls my cell). If there is a number I don't recognize, I just figure its a wrong number. :confused3

ONLY
if I am waiting for a call from someone at a wierd # and I don't answer in time

I don't even call back most people that leave messages.

I'm never calling a number back again! EVER!

I glanced at a number last week and thought it was my friend's new number. So, I hit send and...it sounded like her! So, I said, "Hey, it's me. Did you call?"

Yeah. What are you doing?

Playing on the internet and talking to you.

Are you eating?

Not this second, no.

Well, are you going to eat?

I'm sure I will again at some point in my life, yeah.

I want to know if you're eating out tonight.

I wasn't planning on it, why?!

Well, are you going?

Going where?

Is this Lisa?

No, is this Leah?

NO! Oh, my God!

Oh, geez, I thought this was my friend's new number. I'm sorry.

No, I'm sorry! But, it was nice talking to you anyway!

Yeah, same here...bye!

:rolleyes2

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of caller ID :confused3 ? If I don't recognize the number I'm not picking up and I'm not calling back.

No. And I also hate it when people do that. Why are they so rude about it? I mean if you hung up on them then I guess maybe the caller was rude. But when they call hours later & yell at you it's crazy.

This is also why I HATE it that everyone assumes that everyone else has caller id (I do) and they don't IDENTIFY themselves when they call! UGH! They say "hi, Susan" and then pause. PLEASE IDENTIFY YOURSELF! It's so rude and presumptuous. (okay, I feel better now!)

AAaaaaaarrrrrgggggGGGGHHHH!!!! I HATE when people do this! As a receptionist, I field about 100 calls a day, and at least 3 of them DAILY are some idiot insisting that I tell them who called them a few hours ago, and why. Never mind that we have 130 people in the office. Sheesh.

But the person I was calling knows my voice well. We've been friends for a long time. This woman really sounded like her! I guess I sounded like Lisa, too. If I called Leah up and said, "Hi, this is Beanie," she'd wonder why I bothered and think that was odd. Really. :)

Anytime I'm unsure, I identify myself. :)

My friend had gotten a new number the DAY before, I just hadn't put it in the cell yet.

I will never, ever call an unidentified number back again, I promise! :teeth: (Learned my lesson!)
