Do you bleach your room?

We just came back from Disney and getting sick down there was my biggest fear- all 4 of us getting stuck in a tiny hotel room just wasn't my idea of vacation!!! Luckily none of us got anything. We did NOT sanitize the rooms but I did use sanitizer on our hands often (the 1 and almost 3 year old love to put everything- including their hands- in their mouths often!).

Think of it this way- only 4-5 people at the most were in your hotel room right before you but there are THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of people in the park and using the Disney transportation so it is best if you clean your hands often while out and about. Also, they say that the H1N1 virus only lasts 2-6 hours on surfaces- if that makes you feel any better about the rooms.

I live dangerously. No bleach, no Lysol, no wiping down anything including the toilet handle or the remote, no checking for bed bugs, no bringing my own towels, sheets or TP, no cleaning the coffee maker or the cups and/or glassware, no cleaning the tub, even the Jacuzzi at DVC properties. I bring hand sanitizer but I forget to use it and I actually *sit* on the comforter. I do fold it down to the bottom of the bed when we go to sleep so maybe I'm not totally reckless!

agree But I go farther! I Do use the comforter, my kids have even slept on it at times. They have played on the floor, crawled on the floor. When babies have been known to chew on the remote, the phone you name it.

I hate cleaning, so there is absolutely no way I'm doing any on vacation.
Don't use the hand sanitizing junk either.

I'm shocked! You actually use the comforter for it's intended use?!? Pssst ... I have used the comforter too if it gets too cold in the room.

Oh ... and in the dozens of trips I have made to WDW I have been sick exactly once and that was a 24-hour stomach bug or food poisoning. I figure what doesn't kill my makes me stronger. Plus, even if the people in the room had H1N1, the virus dies on hard surfaces in the few hours between when the previous family checked out and when we check in.

You are my hero Robin. :worship: I carrying the hand sanitizer and also forget to use it!

I just got back last week from VWL, I actually took a nap on the comforter!

And I'm still alive. :rotfl2:

I always have some individually wrapped antibacterial wet ones in my purse. I use them on my hands before I eat at any restaurant (I think that is cleaner than washing in the public bathrooms).

At any hotel, I use one of the wipes for the phone, remote and door handles. I don't worry about the bathrooms because I feel that most every hotel (even cheap ones) at least spray down the bathrooms with disinfectant between guests.
It is my understanding that Disney washes comforters between guests....not sure if that is true though.

The washing comforters in between guests :scared1:I don't think happens, not sure but that is my educated guess

No, I don't clean my room, I hope that it is clean before I get there!!!

I don't sit on the comforters, and I fold them down. But fold them back up if I am cold!

I do bring Lysol, to spray the bathrooms. And I use the hand sanitizer constantly. Expecially in the parks. My son got sick last year, but it was just a small thing. I think he had too much excitement!!!

In all my years there, this was the only time anyone got sick. I'm not worried about the H1N1 or flu, we are vacinated!

Oh yes! We bleach everything!!!! walls, ceiling, floor, fixtures, doors, windows!!!!
You never know...someone might have smoked in the room...or walked by the room when a door was opened smoking...Bleach, bleach, bleach.....god's gift to those of us who can't stand anything we don't want to deal with!!!! including smoke, H1N1, the seasonal flu, the black plaque, shingles, ecoli, malaria and More!!!

We bring our own sheets, pillows, mattress covers, mattresses, flatware, carpets runners to put over the flooring, shower curtains, light blubs, plastic sheeting to duct tape over the walls....we take NO...and I mean NO chances!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really do this????? If i was like that,i'd stay home!

Part of the work I do is planning for pandemic...and despite all I know, I truly believe that wipes for your hands is all you need.

As for hotels in general, I'd worry more about bed bugs than I would germs!

I do... with a little spritz bottle (diluted bleach & water)

How long do you use this before you refill/replace it? Bleach and water mixtures are only good for about 24 hours or less before they become ineffective.

Hmmm, taking a walk on the WILD side, huh! :lmao::lmao::lmao: I'll bet you have great trips in spite of your recklessness!:thumbsup2

Please stay on topic please. Personal shots about other posters will not be tolerated.

Period.

No, we have never cleaned anything in the hotel ourselves - that's the job of Mousekeeping. This trip we have requested an allergy cleaning because ds8's asthma has been out of control for the past several months and we just can't get it back in control - he will be staring shots every-other-week starting next week. I think the climate change between OH and FL will not be kind to him.

Is there a specific cleaning for this? Do you know what they do? WHat is the best way to request this?
Also - does anyone know what allergens are high now in Orlando?

The person who wrote that is from Massachusetts as I am and we can really have be sarcastic when we wanna be and I think that last post was just that:rotfl:

I don't go crazy but I do wipe down a bit - but here is the real issue - YES it dies on surfaces in a few minutes to hours later - BUT the issue I think you have to worry about more is the room cleaners. They go from room to room and I bet you that they use some of the same clothes to wipe down some surfaces so if they clean the room next door they then use the same cloth on your room. I just wipe the door knobs, and sink knobs. I don't go crazy - there is only so much you CAN do. It has worked for us in the past on cruises where 1/2 the boat is sick. But you still have to watch the people who cough or breathe on you who are contagious but might not have symptoms yet. You can't live in a bubble but there are some things you can do to lessen your risk.

Nope. Not being sarcastic. I truely feel bad for anyone that feels they have to bleach their surroundings inorder to be safe. And I WOULD stay home if I was like that.It has nothing to do with being from MA...

Cold weather will not kill the flu virus. :confused3

Unless you have a supressed immune system; all of this is overkill and the chemicals in all those cleaners are worse than leaving it alone.

OUCH I wish you didn't say that because I have a immune system that isn't like others, I have MS, ARGH, but I refuse to clean the room, I'll l wash my hands till they are raw :rotfl:

I agree with you 100% I was joking about the Mass thing

I will be bringing clorox wipes, wiping stuff down and checking for bed bugs...that is if we even get to go--seems like we are getting a little better--nothing serious to begin with, just sore throat for one, fever for another, sinus infection (which I think is allergy/asthma) I will have germx- and will be wiping down the seats on the plane, I will not be taking my own sheets-- I think Disney can use theirs and if I think they aren't clean enough --mousekeeping...now bed bugs thanks to my friend and Rachel Ray who did a show on bed bugs the other day makes me a little:scared1:I may bring plastic mattrss covers--also you don't know what happened on that bed b4:lmao: I may pick up pillows from Target-- because last time I had such a TERRIBLE sleep, so maybe...nothing more than I would if I was going to the grocery store--wiping down the carts and stuff
