Do you bleach your room?

We drive, so it is not a problem for me to bring along a can of Chlorox spray. When I get there, I spray everything touchable, and then we have the spray in the bathroom to use as a deodorizer too. I do this for all vacations.

I also bring along my own sheets mostly because I like a fitted bottom sheet and most hotels do not use them.

LOL We MA people do have an "edge" though!:goofy:

YES WE DO!!!!!!!!!!! sorry to butt in on your party...back to germs...I don't nearly wipe down the way some folks here do, however I do carry baby wipes with me and wash my kids hands constantly with them, I ignorantly believe the minute amount of alcohol in the wipes MAY kill some germs before we get totally infected. That being said, I may bring lysol and clorox wipes on this trip, scheduled for January.

Really would like to be reassured that the comforters are changed, that information would just make me feel so much better.

And "Hello" to all you sarcastic Mass people (you know what I wanted to say!)
xoxo

There is such a thing as allgery cleaning at Disney. Disney actually has a name for this. It's called the VIP clean. They can do different things with it including changing the air filter daily, vac the floor daily, double wash and rinse the sheets, change the comforter daily, etc. They also have Special cleaners that they will use if you have allergens to chemicals.

We do kind of clean the room when we get there. We take a travel Lysol and spray the door handles, the toilet seat and handle, the bathroom counters, well any hard surface. We even put the remote in a ziplock bag. As a previous poster said, You never know who or what touched the remote before I did. We never sit on the comforters, we just move them to the end of the bed. Not crazy OCD but a little bit....:rotfl2: ok... yes we are crazy OCD.;)

I am by no means a "clean-freak" I just really worried about H1N1 in WDW and ruining our vacation so my question is DO any of you bleach down your rooms?
I stay at a lot of hotels. 25-50 nights a year.
Other then the remote and the phone no. I usually use the bag they give you for ice to put the remote in. They are filthy.
Unless there is a whirlpool tub. Then I fill it and put bleach in it and run it. Drain it, Fill it and run it again.
Does anyone bring their own sheets?
No the sheets are usually clean. I check them upon arrival and have had issues on occasion. I also check for bedbugs now that they are becoming an issue in the US.
I never use the comforter. They are usually not clean. I have been at the Poly on several occasion when there was sand on it when I checked into the room, so I do not believe they change them.

I am really wish Florida would get a cold snap so these germs would die off a bit!
Unless I am mistaken a cold snap would make it worse. This is why it kind of went away for the summer, at least in the US. Maybe someone who actually knows can comment.
Also as other have said it is viral so most wipes won't do much as I understand it.

And yes I avoid touching railings and doorknobs in restrooms long before H1N1.
The doorknob on the way out of the restroom is most likely the filthiest thing in the restroom.

Hmmmmm....this thread is making me think!!! I usually bring lysol with me and spray down the bathroom. But I think I will be doing a lot more spraying!!!

I always bring hand sanitizer with me, and the kids carry one each. We bring a larger one and leave it in the room for refills..

:wave2:
I've always brought clorox wipes to every vacation and wipe down the remote, the phone and the doorknobs. I NEVER use the bedspread, that just creeps me out! Maybe I've watched too many 20/20 or Dateline type
shows. :confused3

I do wash dorrnobs ( but then MK comes in and uses probablly the same rag they used for the people nextdoos bathroom, I just try to be more alert as to what has to be done, like someone else said I am not going to become a housecleaner on my vacation. I do bring a sandwich baggie and put the remote in that so I am not touching it, I think those are real germy, dont use the phone I travel with my cell phone and always use a tissue to fluch the toliet. PS I still wash my hands when I get out. :rotfl:

We always wipe down the remote, knobs, etc., but I may try a little more this time when I go in Dec. :santa: I wonder if u can ask for the comforter to be washed, a fresh one put on. I always get creeped out thinking that the comforter wasn't washed and keep it folded down some but going in Dec we might get cold. I'm going to try to request a fresh cover on the bed. I sometimes do that at hotels but wonder if they actually do it or not.

Love the baggie idea on the remote, we do wipe it down but I'm going to bring a baggie also this time. :thumbsup2

Wow I'm surprised by how many people actually do some form of cleaning. We went to WDW a month ago, about 4 weeks after my DH's last chemo treatment, and I did not do anything different. My motto the last 6 months while he was treated was to not go overboard with excessive cleaning, it kept the entire family MUCH healthier.

I live dangerously. No bleach, no Lysol, no wiping down anything including the toilet handle or the remote, no checking for bed bugs, no bringing my own towels, sheets or TP, no cleaning the coffee maker or the cups and/or glassware, no cleaning the tub, even the Jacuzzi at DVC properties. I bring hand sanitizer but I forget to use it and I actually *sit* on the comforter. I do fold it down to the bottom of the bed when we go to sleep so maybe I'm not totally reckless!

Oh ... and in the dozens of trips I have made to WDW I have been sick exactly once and that was a 24-hour stomach bug or food poisoning. I figure what doesn't kill my makes me stronger. Plus, even if the people in the room had H1N1, the virus dies on hard surfaces in the few hours between when the previous family checked out and when we check in.

Yep, this pretty much describes us too! 6 trips to WDW a year, never done anything differently. DH got a 24 hour bug one trip (out of 100). We fly and don't do anything differently there too. Yep, we travel with our 4 yo and 2 yo granddaughters several times a year too! Nothing different there. I also take public transportation in and out of DC every day, using commuter trains and subways (and yes I hold on the pole on the subway and the handrail on the escalators). But one thing I did do last week was get the H1N1 shot! And we also got the regular flu shot too. Not something I normally do, but heck, we're going on the Disney cruise next week and figured if something goes around on the ship, I didn't want to get it! Plus having a 4 month old granddaughter I want to visit with and didn't want to cause her any problems, made the decision easy. BTW -- I'm still carrying around that tiny bottle of hand santizer I've had in my bag for 6 months (and 3 trips to WDW) later. I'm sure I'll take it with me on my trip next week, or the one in January, March, April, September, November....

We live dangerously as well. Maybe its the Disney brainwashing but I feel better about the cleanliness of thier resorts (on all levels, value-deluxe) than anywhere else. Odd considering thier rooms probably get used more and by more people, but thats how the magic works, I guess.

I have gotten sick at Disney but it was something I picked up before heading there, but I have never in all my trips gotten sick after returning from Disney and neither has any of my traveling companions including a group of 8 of us from ages 11 months - 60 this past September, when H1N1 was being highly reported in Florida.

Yes you can specifically request it and they will comply. I spent alot of time in our room sick a few years ago and requested this one day b/c I was sick and didn't want to be lying on that sicky comforter anymore (I found out it wasn't contagious anyway after I got home) and to 'test' it out and see if they did change it (I had been jaded by the Dis back then) I put a small sticker in the corner on the underside and when we came back to our room, the comforter was not the same one.

I wipe down everything in the the room that's wipedownable - sinks, counters, all handles on everything, toilet seat, tub, shower, phones, remotes! Have been for years. We bring our own pillowcases too. ANd every time I'm able and remember I wipe down the restaurant tables too. And that nasty wheel on the teacups. That thing is filthy! My son has a habit of touching handrails where ever we go and he also has a bad habit of biting his nails/putting hands in mouth so I have to be extra careful. He almost always comes up with a cold abt a week after we return from our trips to WDW. I think it would be much worse if I wasn't so psycho abt disinfecting things.

Yes- to the OP- Florida does get cold snaps. How do I know?
I was there Feb 1-8, and it was in the 40's during the day. I think the germs froze, not just us. :scared1:

and YES- I do clean the room. I do wipe down everything AND check for bedbugs.:thumbsup2

IMO, people who do this type of OCD cleaning are the ones who do not build up immunes and get sick alot.. I dont bother with none of that crap, I do wash my hands after the bathroom tho, thats bout it. I am hardly ever sick and if I am its a day or two then back to normal.. How can your body grow strong if you never let it fight... Just my 2cents.

I'm one of those crazy people who does bring their own sheets...and towels....but that's because I'm allergic to whatever detergent they use. I have multiple severe chemical allergies and the last time we went without bringing sheets adn towels I ended up in the ER with hives becasue of the sheets.
I have to do that whenever I travel.

I being lysol wipes but only for the plane because of my peanut allergy.

We bring hand sanitizer ebcasue I cannot use the soap in the bathrooms. It has a chemical that makes me break out.

My doctors are continuously amazed with the fact that I do not get sick that often cosnidering I have asthma adn a suppresed immune system and their convinced it's becasue my immune system is stronger than it would normally be on these meds. because we DONT use all of these chemicals, etc.
