Do you bleach your room?

I buy a big container of the Lysol wipes and go to town once im in the room. Im a neat freak and go over the counters throughout the room also. I just feel better knowing that my stuff isnt going on top of something dirty or dusty.

I also buy the antibacterial hand wipes which are individually packaged which were really great last trip, i bought two boxes of those and it was nice to clean our hands with.

I do not want to gross people out but this will. We use to not worry about cleaning anything in our hotel rooms until we saw a special on either 20/20 or 60 minutes on the cleanliness of hotel rooms:scared1:, now we no longer stay in hotels without our disinfectant and antibacterial wipes. They found human #1 and #2 bacteria on the phone, handles and the worst was the remote. The comforters also were another area of bacteria. That combined with a recent study I just heard on the radio that 33% of men and 15% of women do not wash their hands after going to the bathroom is why we started wiping the room down.

Unfortunately, gross behaviors and the germs that follow are everywhere.
Hotel rooms, grocery carts, cash and coins, escalators, elevator buttons, handshakes...they all can carry germs. Grocery carts are especially notorious. Some kid in our area did a science fair experiment on what he grew from swabs taken from one of those grocery store "Kiddie" car carts...the results were disgusting.

These are all good reasons to be a regular hand washer, especially before eating. ;)

That is true about anything..including your own home. They did a study and found that a good % of homes had large amounts of fecal contaminent throughout the house.Ditto on gyms, restaurants, banks and shopping malls....in any event, I really think there is such a thing as being TOO clean and TOO germ free.If I was worried to the extent that some people here worry, I would need a valium to go to work ( I am a nurse)each night.

I have never taken any bleach, wipes, etc and never had a problem. This year, I've already got my Clorox wipes packed. I want to at least wipe down remotes, door handles, etc.

Everyone is so worried about what is in the hotel rooms. What about all the handrails and other ride equipment that constantly gets touched? There are so many surfaces (not to mention airplane travel) that people touch that you couldn't possibly kill all the germs. We took precautions (hotel room, some rides, before eating and many others) and still got what appears to be H1N1 just days after returning from our trip (Oct10-17, 2009). At least it came on after we had an awesome trip! It is now in our area so I look at it as we probably would have gotten it some time or another - 4 elementary school kids and I work at the school too. Just wished it wasn't directly after our trip :sad2:

We've never taken any precautions in cleaning the room. I can understand why people do like to wipe everything down, but I guess we're risk takers.:earsboy:

we always clean the handles of all the doors and drawers along with the remote. it jus puts me at ease

I've never cleaned anything in a hotel room, but after reading this thread I'll be cleaning at least the tv remote. I always bring anti bacterial wipes and gel, use them in the parks and on the plane, and we're totally into hand washing often. Hardly ever sick either, maybe one or two colds per year.

Ladies, where do you put your purse or bag when you eat or go to the toilet? The floor is far more dirtier than your hotel room.

The toilet seat is actually one of the cleanest surfaces in the bathroom.

And, once again, antibacterial won't do a thing against flu. You need antiviral - with alcohol - to kill the flu virus.

If your immune system works well let it take care of the bacteria and viruses. It's not necessarily good to have no exposure to any bad germs, especially for kids....just look up the hygiene hypothesis and the higher incidence of autoimmune diseases.

Washing your hands and showering is enough

Would the individual packets of hand sanitizer(Wet Ones/Purell) count as a liquid as far as carry on items? I know the bottles would but am not sure about packets. Thanks.

Oh yes! We bleach everything!!!! walls, ceiling, floor, fixtures, doors, windows!!!!
You never know...someone might have smoked in the room...or walked by the room when a door was opened smoking...Bleach, bleach, bleach.....god's gift to those of us who can't stand anything we don't want to deal with!!!! including smoke, H1N1, the seasonal flu, the black plaque, shingles, ecoli, malaria and More!!!

We bring our own sheets, pillows, mattress covers, mattresses, flatware, carpets runners to put over the flooring, shower curtains, light blubs, plastic sheeting to duct tape over the walls....we take NO...and I mean NO chances!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, they're fine to just bring in a carry on as a non-liquid.

Most of the hand sanitizers and wipes also have alcohol in them...that is why they dry so fast. So, they are effective cleaners.

You can also get packs of mini alcohol wipes in the diabetic supply section of most any store. It's usually less than $2 for 100 wipes. They are small 1 inch squares, but really really portable. A couple of these, a couple individual wet ones, a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer. Takes up almost no room in a pocket (I sometimes just slip a few of the individual wipes or alcohol wipes in my bra and they aren't noticable). You can keep your hands clean all day anywhere!

I guess we like to live on the Wild side:rotfl2: No bleach, no scrubbing, and if I had to bring my own bedding, utensils, towels etc...i would rather stay home! It is not a vacation for me if I have to bring all that stuff.I NEVER get sick, neither does DD or DH and we do nothing other than wash our hands and practice good cough/sneeze etiquette.

No, we have never cleaned anything in the hotel ourselves - that's the job of Mousekeeping. This trip we have requested an allergy cleaning because ds8's asthma has been out of control for the past several months and we just can't get it back in control - he will be staring shots every-other-week starting next week. I think the climate change between OH and FL will not be kind to him.

What is a Allergy cleaning? I have never heard of this! Where do a ask for this? My ds5 get 2 shots a week due to his allergy's and he always has a rough time with allergy when we take trips so maybe this would help!

I usually go on a grocery run at Walmart before I head to the resort. I pick up a cannister of Lysol or Clorox wipes, either a bottle of Clorox Anywhere or Lysol 4 in 1 disinfecting cleaner, and a handheld scrubber. I always bring travel sizes of lysol spray and febreeze in my luggage.

I febreeze the room, clean the bathroom, spray lysol and the clorox all over the place, and spray my bedding. I admit I have some minor OCD issues. Does this all help? Maybe, maybe not.;) It does make me feel better, though.

Oh, I forgot. I bring plenty of handwipes, hand sanitizer, and wash my hands A LOT, A LOT!! I know that helps!:lmao:

We also wipe down everything on the plane too!

We never used to be this careful but it's a different world out there now! and we have had issues with the rooms being cleaned properly in the past also. It just pays to be alittle more aware. Clorox is the best germ killer according to OSHA.

ps. we've had our flu shots too!!
