Do use DisneyWorld for medicinal purposes?

January & February of this year have been pretty rough for us. My wife & I keep saying that we NEED DisneyWorld. Also, we realized that we've done this a few times over the last 10 years. By that I mean, whenever life hits us in the jaw, a trip to WDW is the one thing that seems to lift our spirits.

Have you ever used WDW for medicinal purposes?

Yes, we are this year. DD has been sick for a while now (still no diagnosis) and needed something to look forward to.

I wouldn't call it medicinal, but yes! I wish it could be something my Dr. prescribes for me!!:goodvibes
There have been a few rough times where we say, "let's plan a trip" and it was a great pick-us-up and getaway!
We've also planned some trips in January knowing that it breaks up the long winter for us. It's a great time to go. Although I'm glad we didn't do January this year, and feel bad for people who did. It was just too cold to justify the getaway to the warmth we needed!

Disney is a great escape from the real world that we love and sometimes that's just what everyone needs, is to just get away from it all!

Absolutely!! I have been ill/awaiting diagnosis but not wanting the diagnosis for 3 years now - when I go through a bad patch I plan a trip. (or a cruise :rolleyes1)

One thing I've learnt during this time is that life is for the living - so do it! :thumbsup2

Absolutely! Our last trip was July 2009. In the space of time since then, life has been very, very difficult, to say the least. Our upcoming trip this July is most definitely for medicinal purposes. I don't think I've ever needed a WDW trip this badly!

well besides using it as an excuse to escape the real world. Which is often the case of make a wish kids. There are families that move closer to the parks for their handicap kids. It can be a real breakthrough for the kids, get them to open up. When i was working there, there was a story in the cast paper, about a boy who rode snow white for like the millionth time. Something about that ride, he just loves. So the cast put on a huge celebration and certificate in the little courtyard area behind the castle. So people use disney for lots of reasons other than just a vacation spot.

Absolutely! We have a current prescription that is to be filled in the middle of May ;). And if it is not Disney World, then it is Key West (another place to definitely escape the real world).

Yes, I go once a week or more to get away from the stress of life, have a nice walk and something to eat. It never gets old for me.

We definitely do! We often end up planning trips (especially to Disney) when life is particularly difficult because it always gives us something to look forward to.

When I went to WDW in Sept 2004 it was to get some fun before my mastectomy and chemo. It was the worst trip I ever had, i couldn't get the cancer out of my brain and really had no fun. the two people I was with (heartless) had tons of fun, they sometimes left me in the room to go to the parks alone because I just didn't feel like going. They woke early every morning to go down to Bfst at WL and left me sleeping so I usually had no bfst either. I was taking sleeping pills at the time and although I am usually a light sleeper I never woke up. I asked them every morning to wake me so I could go too but they never did. Worst part was I paid for the whole trip, air, resort, and tickets...They are both out of my life now though.
After chemo and radiation I went with my entire family. We rented 6 rooms at Pop and had a blast. We sat out on the balcony every night and got drunk and had a blast. My son's decorated their window with all the bottles and cans, and it was full.
So definately go after as a pick me up, not before.
I am going down to FL in a few weeks to visit a friend who had a mastectomy and now is having some more surgery related to the past surgery. She has to stay out of work for 3 weeks but her Dr said she could go anywhere she wanted to have some fun. I am bringing my wheelchair with me and plan on pushing her all around Epcot for the Flower and Garden festival. I am sure that will lift her spirits.

hmmm, possibly, subconciously..but now that you put it into words...why I do believe we DO go for mental health reasons! Our WDW addiction started out as "if the kids are happy, WE are happy"...but I do believe that the kids say the same thing, lol..."if mom and dad are happy, we ALL have a great vacation!"

Yes...about 10 years ago when I had gone through numerous infertility procedures and had had 2 miscarriages int he same year DH& I had a lovely long weekend at the Wilderness Lodge. It was just what the doctor ordered.:thumbsup2

We have...most recently in November. I got very sick about a year before, and this trip was just what my family needed.

Yes, my family is saying we need another round of Disney.
One year we planned it behind my daughters back, the night before I told her to pack a suitcase and she was flipping out going, "Are we poor and have to move mommy?!" Then I told her the big news. We stayed at French Quater-Riverside.

Hotel:9/10
Cafe: 9/10
Pool 10/10 (not very sweet lifeguards)
Bus Service 3/10

yes...my family makes life VERY complicated and stressful, and wdw is our opportunity to get away from them, because they think it's a frivolous waste of money and would never want to join us. unfortunately, i am no longer able to work, so we won't be going back at any point in the foreseeable future. i think disney knows this, and is taunting me-i've NEVER gotten a pin code before, but since we are no longer in a financial position to go, i've gotten TWO pin codes in the past 6 weeks.
