Do traders care about the cards now?

I'll admit that I haven't been an active trader for several years. In fact, my trading partner (my DD) lost interest and I haven't been doing anything with the bags and books of pins that I have. So I listed my DCL and AC collection in my Ebay store, and I've got lots more to photo and list. This could take years.

Anyway, I've sold most of the DCL AC pins, and recently sold another four to one buyer. When the guy got the pins, he complained that they weren't on the original cards. I will admit I didn't take care in matching up the cards, other than getting the correct style and price. I have never had anyone be concerned about the cards, including all the people I sold the other pins to.

I found a couple of the correct cards for him, and have offered a refund on the pins I can't find cards for. So this is not a rant about an unreasonable customer. I just honestly didn't know it mattered to anyone. I went to pin trading get togethers many times at WDW, and it just never came up, in fact there was usually no card involved in trades.

So, my question. Are you a serious collector/trader? And is the original card important to you?

I used to think that collectors would want the original pin cards with the pins that came on them, but not many folks really seem to care. Mostly for me it's because I now want to display the pins if I really like them & sometimes that means sticking them into a corkboard or some other backing.

I do make an exception for my rare LE pins, like my Filmstrip set - I did keep all those pins with their cards for the display.

Btw, how in the world did this buyer *know* that the pins weren't on their original cards? And if you didn't state "Mint condition on original cards" in your auction description, then I don't see what Mr. Crabbypants was complaining about.

agnes!

Some people care about the cards and others don't at all. If the person was concerned with the pins being on the original cards then they should have asked prior to purchasing.

I personally don't see what the deal is with the card. I have thousands of pins on display without the cards and they look just great!

I'm new to this, and I don't really care about cards. One I purchsed was even still sealed in plastic. I opened it and stuck it on my board. I do save the ones that are LE or have a special card. I label the card with a post it note with what pin came off it. JIC I want to sell it someday. But mostly I want it where I can see and admire it.

I only care about the card if it is one that has background info about the pin ie the Dave Smith series or POH, just to list examples. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter.

It does not matter about the cards. This guy wasprobably brand new to the pin trading thing or was just being a jerk.

Or, I work in retail and know this to be true, guy was having buyers remorse and trying to get some of his $$ back.

I am one that wants the original card black , blue, whatever it is.

I have been collecting Disney pins before pin trading was introduced.

I don't consider myself a jerk just because I want the complete package.

When I record my new addition I go to Pinpics and write down the sku number, LE, and date issued. I wrap them in plastic with their information on the plastic with a sticker and store them by their category...Christmas, Pluto, Halloween, Easter, Valentine, and other holidays.
With any collectible , I want the item as it was sold .

If I do get a TA request from Pinpics , I always ask if their pin is on the original card. I will actually trade a harder pin if their pin is MWMC.
If my pin is NOT on the original card , I will tell them.
Some pins don't come on a card and I understand that.

I am sure I am in the minority as I don't display my pins. Few people in Kentucky even KNOW I collect Disney pins.

So please, just because the person asks for the black backer thing, don't think that they are a jerk or in it for monetary reasons. We all have our idiosyncrasies.

In case you were not aware..im not sure what the website is called, but you can buy just the black back cards in bulk online exactly like the ones you get at Disney. E-mail me if you would like me to search that for you.

no thank you,

I want the correct sticker with the correct sku, price, etc.

I have many extra black backer cards.
