Do they assign your room, the minute you check in online?

I am contemplating whether its worth it. I understand I won't find out my room number till its ready. But I'm wondering if as soon as they get your online check in, if they assign your room at that point, or wait till you actually are physically there. Our plane lands at 7:00 pm, so I have a feeling we'll get the last pick of rooms, on a Wednesday night. Will it help if you check in online? Do they lock in your room right at that moment?

I seriously doubt it since you can do on line check in up to 10 days in advance. There was a post recently about requests not being honored when using on line check in. I won't use it I don't see any advantage to it.

They do not assign you a room number and what is worse, checking in online erases any other request you had made for a room. When you check in online, you are given the choice of a room near transportation or a ground floor room. This is NOT in addition to a previous request. I used the online check in but when I got to SSR last week, I found my previous requests were erased. All they had was a request for a room near transportation. The CM said that the online checkin was getting to be a real problem. I asked what would have happened if I did not check either of the boxes and she stated that it would come in as not having any requests. Just using it erases whatever you have requested before. If you do not have any requests or preferences, online checkin may be OK. I do not plan to ever use it again though.

Vandy thank you, that settles it for me. I don't want my requests to be wiped out, I'll check in the old fashioned way!
