Just curious if there was a sign up for the teen area/activities other than the internet usage.

Dean:

Both of my DSs will be teens when we cruise next summer so I've done a good bit of research on this subject. From what I've read, there's a "411" session in the teen lounge on the first day and it's important that the teens attend that so they can meet the counselors and other teens their ages. From then on, I believe they can attend the organized activities or go to the teen lounge whenever they like. However, I know there are at least a couple of the activities that they ask the teens to sign up for in advance, in addition to the teens-only excursions, if they want to do them.

I haven't cruised on DCL yet, so I'll be following this thread so I hear what actual cruisers have to say :)

They will already have a list of all the teens onboard when you get there. Parents can go with the teen and check the place out on the day you board I think up till 6 or 7pm, after that only teens and counselors are allowed in. I think they check you off the list but it is not mandatory to go sign up, my dd just went as she pleased, when we didn't already have plans.

I cruised in June 2002 and as of then, you didnt have to sign up or anything at all. I'm 14 and I met one of my friends that I found through DIS and we went in, asked to sign up, and were told all we needed to do was pick up a teen navigator.

Hope this helps :D

As a parent you should go to Common Grounds during the first afternoon. It is your only opportunity to have a look around that part of the ship. After 7 pm on the first day it is designated as a "no adults allowed" area. and they are very strict about this rule. So if you have any interest in seeing where your teens are hanging out and meeting the counselors do it then.

Registration hours will be posted there and also in the Navigator. As mentioned above, the parents are allowed to enter Common Grounds only during this time. It is nice to take a small tour and see what is offered there.

They will check your teen's name off the list and give them a Teen Navigator. Don't miss the 411. The teens tend to form their new friendships at this meeting and it is harder for those who do not attend to make this bond later on. :)

Thanks all, that's what I needed to know.
