I saw we can rent DVD's at the Community Hall, but we are
only staying in a studio this summer (10 days....!!!!!) - first time
at the Boardwalk....we're excited, but were spoiled by a one bedroom
at BCV at Christmas. Would you advise to bring along a portable
DVD player if the kids (20 & 14) want to watch movies in the room.

:wave2: Yes, from what I can remember the studios do not have a dvd player. We stayed at SSR and our studio did not have one. Have a wonderful time!

To my knowledge, none of the DVC studios have DVD players, since they are actually just the second bedroom of a 2 bedroom unit, where the DVD player is in the living room.

Sure would be nice if they'd put them in the studios...and while they're at it , how about sticking a washer & dryer in the corner too.:teeth:

Since we'll be bringing a portable DVD player, curious - what sort of DVDs does the Community Hall have for borrowing (all Disney)?

okay I haven't look in a few years - but then it was all Disney and my nephew consider them all boring.....

(of course this is the nephew that prefers US to WDW....)

My DD checked out quite a few on our last trip and I can't remember if they were all Disney or if that's all she choose.

Here's a list of what she got.
Snowball Express (a Dean Jones classic!)
No Deposit, No Return
Watcher in the Woods
Something Wicked This Way Comes
The Happiest Millionaire (A cute movie starring Fred McMurray)
Haunted Mansion
National Treasure

Since we typically stay in studios, I wish they had some type of check out system for DVD players. I wouldn't mind leaving a large deposit.

No DVD players so we used our laptop to watch DVD's. We brought a few for the plane and some to watch in the room. Never thought about renting some since we were so busy with the parks and the pool...

The free DVDs for guests are often picked over, but if you go around noon-2, you will usually have a good selection. We usually pick up a couple and return them in the drop box the next morning when we head for the bus in the morning. I suspect that's why the selection is good midday.

As for putting DVD players in the studios...That's a pretty big expense for our dues, and since it's a timeshare, and as such geared to full size units, I don't see any point to it. I think it might be a good idea to offer DVD player rentals though for the studios.

thanks for the rental tip. :thumbsup2 Where I live it's not uncommon to see DVD players advertised for $25...would think DVC could pick them up @ cost as a volume purchaser. Probably cheaper than a new bed spread per unit. However, those of us that want the portable units probably already have them, just need to lug them along.

IMO, we're delighted w/the overall studio experience & think they pack a big punch for their size & are an integral part of the whole DVC offering. Unfortunately, they seem to be relegated to ugly stepsister status.

I remember when a large, vocal contingent on this board was insistent that the dining plan would be ruinous for DVC. Progressive change is not always bad:goodvibes
