Do Not Disturb Gone! (BLT)

the new Hilton procedures also direct hotel employees to consider the following issues that may be considered “suspicious”:

  • Guests overly concerned about privacy.
  • Guests refusing room cleaning for extended period of time.
  • Those taking photos and notes about the hotel.
  • Switching rooms a number of times.
  • Requesting specific rooms.
  • Extended use of DND sign.
  • Using cash for payment.
  • Guest doesn’t leave the room for extended period.
  • Guest leaves the room for extended period.
Seems like this is normal behavior at Disney. Hope they don't start adopting Hilton procedures.
I'm sorry. the only way this works for the purpose it was purportedly intended.."security" is if it is unannounced.... setting up an appointment to check for ammo? lol! telling the housekeeping to "come back later"? what is the point? we could hide whatever you may be looking for. , I do NOT have to tell the housekeeping staff what time I plan on waking up in the morning.. what time we may or may not take a nap. we are an elderly couple.. one of us is disabled. if he can ignore thepain long enough to fall asleep.. do NOT!!!!! knock on the door and wake him out of the few minutes he has pain free!!!! and we do what we can do whenever we can do it.. period!

Love that quote from Franklin.
See that is my problem.

Please, please, do not wake me up from my nap. Please. If I feel good enough to fall asleep, please let me be. Even a quick knock on the door is going to ruin my day.

....
I think it comes from a simple lack of knowledge, from suitcases to shooting in the Vegas could easily be accomplished in 15 minutes. Moderate skill level in 5 minutes.

That's what makes these 'checks ' so laughable.

Exactly.

Consider yourself lucky! If you had been at Disney, the housekeeper would have burst in without knocking, terrorized you and your husband, stolen all your things and pooped in your toilet. Sorry - it's been building up for days lol.

LOL!!!! I know, right?

For those who consider all this laughable, you are entitled to that opinion. I wish that no one needed to even consider ways to mitigate harm, but we are in this World, now aren't we? DO I want to give up civil liberties? No, however apparently I am doing this so others can keep theirs intact, and while I am not going to get political here, I am kind of perturbed that those of us ewho are nto all that worried about security stepping in our rooms are scolded about our liberties, becuase we cannot have that conversation.

My sister and her husband were in the middle of that mess in Vegas, and I am ever grateful they survived. They were just on the outskirts of the concert and a woman at a kiosk grabbed my sister and pulled her down behind it with her. I really do wish someone had peeked in that hotel room. I really do.

I am not going to stop living, but my normal behavior is changing. I no longer take my DGD to NYC wthout making myself aware of exit routes and my souroundings. I never did that before. I am careful where I sit with her on the train, and am watchful of how I found safeguard her in the event of a shooting. I am not sorry that even for "security theater" purposes there is a promise that no longer will a do not disturb sign keep security from routinely checking rooms.

I agree with some people here and say all cars needs to be wanded and checked befor entering the property they already do this at casinos and such. This way there would be no reason to go into room since people who fly have nothing and people who drive have nothing.

WDW is 43 sq mi. That is not a casino. There is no way you could check all the cars that enter the property.

they already check bands and liscense at the gates to property.. why not add a quick look see int he trunk. Add 1 more guard per gate would be cheaper than having to check every room everyday

How much do you think a quick look would do?

Edit to add:
The back seat of our car is packed with two coolers, and a couple paper grocery bags of food. The trunk has at least 1 very large suitcase, plus a computer bag and a bag of pillows. Then we have a shelf behind the car holding scooter parts, plus a couple of small bags. The stuff on the shelf is all encased in a black bag.

Searching everything on our car would take about 30 minutes.

as much if not more than a peek into a room.. but with less backlash from people being annoyed on vacation.

I'd be more annoyed by this. We are a family of four who drives down for three week trips. We've got everything in that trunk and then some. I'd imagine there are lots of families like me with lots of junk in their trunk.

It’s all silly and pointless. My husband carries his gun on vacation. He has a license and it’s his right as an American. If they walk in and find a gun laying in plain sight what are they gonna do? Arrest him? Say “Hey don’t shoot that at people.”?

Also if someone wants to do something horrible they will. They could check in, carry their bags to their room, and begin their onslaught. I feel like all we can do is hope that some sick piece of crap doesn’t decide to attack Disney World. I really have zero faith that Disney (with all their attempts) could prevent a tragedy.

I have lots of junk in my trunk, too, but it has nothing to do with my car! :P
Sorry, I had to!

I think if they found his weapon out in plain sight they could have you kicked out, no? It was my understanding that WDW is private property and has a no weapons policy...but I could be wrong.

Possibly. That’s usually the case. Good people follow the rules and can’t defend themselves when bad people start shooting. Either way it’s an illusion they have control. They sure try though.

The parks vs a rented hotel room is a sticky situation. Renting a room extends certain privileges vs a ticketed event (be it a theme park, concert or football ball). The latter is cut and dry, they can ban whatever they like. While not illegal to carry a gun into a Florida theme park, it is against their rules and you can be kicked out for it. If you refuse to leave, you can then get arrested for criminal trespass, not for the gun itself.

Renting a hotel room extends certain rights, like renters rights if you will. It's honestly far too complicated for a post like this. The quick answer, legally you could have anything you can legally own in any hotel room in Florida (and most states).

The clear cut answer under Florida law for cars, which is the simplest and keeps getting asked, if you have a license to carry you can have whatever you want in your car and Disney can't do squat about it if you are a customer. Florida, along with virtually every state in the nation, specifically exempt and protect firearms (lawfully possessed) in vehicles from infringement by businesses open to the pubic.

In any event, is it better for tens of thousands of guns to be left in unattended vehicles at wdw or in room safes? Disney seems to prefer them all in parking lots for easy snatch and grabs apparently.

It's all a joke anyway, none of the cast members or service personnel go through metal detectors, anyone could enter the parks from dozens of different areas and go nuts and today maybe 1 out of 100 people headed through bag check today went through a metal detector. Thats really another topic but illustrates the illusion of what people with their heads in the clouds are missing.

Call it what you like, "security theatre" or the "illusion of security" but feeling safe vs being safe are two very different things.

Just anecdotal, but my family just returned from a fabulous trip to Aruba. We stayed at an All Inclusive resort, and had a CL experience. Anyway, one of the perks of our level of stay was additional visits from staff to change towels and restock the refrigerators. Housekeeping services started later than we are used to, but we did nto care. One afternoon DH and I were lying on the bed, he was watching TV and I was dozing when a housekeeper came in teh room. SHe apologized and I thought she left. No....she was in the bathroom cleaning the monster jacuzzi! DH was in his shorts, and he was frozen on the bed! LOL!!!! Oppps, we are just leaving! And we got the heck out of Dodge!

There was also more security visible than I had ever seen anywhere. The concierge said that this was becuase rather were all inclusive, but I wondered if the number was overkill if it was to keep people from accessing the frozen pina coladas.

I've been to all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean that are similar. The housekeeping staff there often enters the rooms for turn down service at night, or during the day to drop off more items for the fridge and whatnot. I've been in the room a few times and they sometimes ask if you mind if they work around you or not. One time I returned sandy from the beach and they in the process of mopping the floor. The last thing that crossed my mind was "oh no, this housekeeper is seeing me in my bathing suit!" I went in the bathroom to freshen up and she kept mopping the floor.

To offer the service they are known for, you sometimes have to give and take a little bit because they can not work around your schedule when they don't know what it is. If you are on vacation and are hanging out in your room for hours, and you know you need to nap, or your kids need to nap, just be aware that someone might need to get in the room. Lock your door, put your own sign up that says someone is sleeping, wear ear plugs. Maybe it shouldn't have to be necessary, but there are ways to make it work. It's a hotel full of children, there is NO way people aren't disturbed while sleeping in other instances, as children are loud and even the most well-intentioned parents can't keep their kids from being noisy 100% of the time.

But taking the trash every day isn't a service that Disney is known for. In fact, Disney made it quite clear that DVC does not get the same service that cash resorts receive. If anything Disney is known for not cleaning rooms or taking trash.

Much like the change allowing dogs, this change happened to many people that have already booked. I leave for Disney in 16 days.
