Do DVC properties receive less attention for maintenance and cleaning?

It is true that reviews tend to be either negative or positive on sites like TripAdvisor. I always have to read the negative reviews. I think Orlando is like Las Vegas - they need 1000's of cleaning staff in these places, and keeping staffing up to the levels needed probably is a challenge, and mistakes are going to be made, especially if short staffed. I know that Las Vegas is the same way - couple of trips ago, checked into room not clean, then checked into room that was occupied, 3rd room was good. Next trip, checked into room with drenched carpeting, and 2nd room good. This was Vegas, but I bet WDW has same challenges since it's a major tourist destination. Sounds like they have a lot of great staff that try hard, but sometimes there's a blip in service due to human error - probably from not enough staffing. Good to hear so much positive feedback on this forum about the CM's and mousekeeping. It's interesting that my local resort hotel where we go for small weekend getaways in Monterey, CA has no bad reviews that I find on these review websites (the Plaza Hotel) - guess smaller resorts are far easier to maintain and supervise staff. Can't wait to book our Disney trip if our contract for resale points passes Disney ROFR soon.

I think it depends where you stay in Vegas. We live in LA and go quite often and have never had a dirty room. They do a much better job in Vegas than in WDW.

I have heard that we can request a "medical cleaning". What exactly is this and is there a fee for it?

That is a VIP cleaning. It is intended for people with particular medical conditions - asthma, for example, or severe allergies. You can make arrangements with the resort to have this done if you need it.

While we have had a few issues at different DVC resorts over the years......yes, we did have a clogged toilet once and did have a bathroom that wasn't cleaned well, as well as the usual burned out bulbs, missing kitchen items, and one time a broken toaster.......everything has been taken care within a very reasonable time after we called.....however, no one has ever answered sarcastically when told of a problem. As far as the comments about being told when staying at BWV you could use Stormalong Bay at Yacht/Beach Club.....well that's just an outrageous comment and I can't imagine any CM telling a guest that. I have noticed over the years the decline in the entire standard of housekeeping at every DVC resort and am quite sure it's due to reduced staff levels, also. At one time, you could come out of your room in the morning and usually encounter not one or two, but, several housekeeping staff in the hallways AND everyone was very friendly and had a cheery "Good Morning". That doesn't happen anymore......it's rare to see even one housekeeping member .......and even more rare to get the cheery "Good Morning". I think the general morale of ALL Disney employees has declined dramatically over the past few years and its obvious in every area. And, it's a proven fact that if morale is not good in the workplace......quality of work suffers. Once in awhile we come across an "old timer" who has still hung on to the cheerful, cordial "Disney Way" but, it's happening much less frequently these days and it makes me a bit sad. Disney has always been my "happy place" when I can go and forget about everything else for a short time and I find I'm beginning to not feel that way anymore.
