Do 3 year olds like Thunder Mountain and Splash?

My dd rode Splash Mountain on her third birthday. She liked the ride but was not crazy about getting wet on the drop. This past trip she (now 5) she would have spent the entire day riding if we'd let her.

I was just wondering this myself! My DS was 3 in November and is 41". (Hubby is 6'3" and I am 5'11") so he can ride those things, techinically, but I just keep picturing that huge drop on Splash Mountain!! I remember it being a big deal when I was 12!! I guess we will just have to watch and ask him what he thinks after we try some of the tamer rides. I can't imagine taking him on those ... but I can't believe how quickly my kids grow as it is! hehe!

I have a tall DS5. We first took him to WDW at 3 years and 2 months. He was just over 41 inches tall. He loves Splash Mountain to bits, it's his most favorite ride ever. We usually have to go on it multiple times. We made sure he knew about the big drop, we let him watch people coming down it. He didn't have any problem. We did the same thing for Test Track, and he loves that too. The thing he hates about TT is if we have to queue! BTMR wasn't open when we went the first time, he does enjoy it, but not nearly as much as Splash. Goofy's Barnstormer is a big hit too, it's a very short ride, you can see it completely so you can both look at it and decide if it's something he might want to try. Kali River Rapids over in AK is a bit wild, in that you get drenched, but again my DS loved that at 3. He is tall enough for Space Mountain nowadays, but the seating configuration (he would have to sit on his own) is not something I am 100% happy about. I think that would bother him...well probably me more, but you get the picture! The rides he doesn't like are the ones that are dark and loud. He is not a fan of The Haunted Mansion.

I am super over protective, so I do understand your concerns. If you aren't confident on taking him on any of these rides, then don't. He will have a perfectly good time without them! More time for hugs with Mickey!

By the way DS wasn't so keen on Star Tours the first time he went on it. He didn't have much context for it as he hadn't seen the movies. Plus you do get rocked around a fair bit. Now I am one major Star Wars geek, so it was only a matter of time! He enjoyed it much more the last time, having finally been allowed to see some of the films.

I agree that it really depends on the child. We took my DS3 to Disneyland one month after his 3rd b-day, and hands down his FAVORITE rides were Splash and BTMRR. In fact, the second time on BTMRR, he was putting his hands up in the air like the "big" kids!! That was quite the sight!!! We went on splash so many times one night that I had to buy new pants in the Haunted Mansion shop (poor me :), but I did feel kind of silly walking around with "I'm your worst nightmare" on my butt!! :) ).

But he HATED Star Tours!!!! Couldn't wait to get off. So, you just never know.

Good luck and have fun!!!!!

DD loved splash mountain type rides at 2, but at 4 when we were at Disney she wouldn't even try it. However, she pschyed herself up to ride BTMRR for 6 months that she did that one. She didn't scream but she wasn't ready to ride it again on that trip and we were there for 10 days and at MK 5 days.
