Can I take the DME back to MCO airport to pick up a rental car with no flight scheduled? Want to pick up a suburban with the rest of the family back at resort, and still stay in Florida for a week. Question is...can I just tell disney I want to leave by disney resort at 10am to get to MCO at 11am? Has anyone done this before or had experience doing so. Thought about renting at Lake Buena Vista but afraid they will try to switch me into a smaller minivan because suburbans are not normally carried at the dollar rental in LBV. I am planning on booking my DME soon. Thanks for any help.

dont think you can w/o flight info. they want you on the bus 3hrs before departure from MCO.

Yes - just call DME directly and arrange for the pick up, most of the DME CM's can make the reservation without the flight info.

If you get a CM that is having trouble booking for you then just find a flight to anywhere that leaves 3 hours after the time you want to leave the resort and give them that information.

We have done this a few times without issues.

But isnt that cheating?? Kinda like dodging the CMs to stay for the 7p.m. MNSSHP parade without a ticket. Sure it can be done but it doesn't sound like the right thing to do. Why can't folks just do it the right way--pay for a cab and pick up your car. :guilty:

I wouldn't say its cheating if they take dme to the resort they are allowed a return trip to the airport. OP is just picking up a car instead of catching a flight home.

They ARE doing it the right way. She paid for DME to take her from the airport and then back. She doesn't have to catch a flight to use DME back to the airport. She is completing her round trip that is a part of her package.

If staying on property the DME is paid for by the steep prices we pay versus staying off property, just I need to only get back to MCO so I can continue with part 2 of our long vaca. |
Just not sure about exactly how this would work if I did not fly out until a week later. I will call and try with my AAA person. Actually, I don't know if you even have to give disney your exact flight details, probably just the times, but not sure. So I figure 3 hours before a 1pm flight should get me on the 10am bus and at MCO by 10:45 or 11am.
Thanks for the responses, just wanted to hear from someone who has done this before, how it worked.

Not Even Close - I am not a cheater.

There is no requirement to fly to use DME - written policy or otherwise. Everyone staying at a WDW Resort receives complimentary transportation from MCO and back, one round trip per passenger per trip.

What confuses people is that the reservation system is booked based on flight info becuase 99.9% of passengers using DME are flying. That doesn't mean that the small number of people using DME without a flight are cheating.

If you call DME and tell them you need the ride they will book it with or without a flight. No lying or cheating necessary.

Okay people...this is how it works.
Every single person who pays to stay at a WDW owned resort, and those others who are listed on that resort reservation, are entitled to a ride from MCO to the resort, and then a ride back to MCO. It does NOT matter what you are going back to MCO for.
If you need to get back to MCO to rent a car, just call DME directly and tell them what time you need to be there. They will put you on an appropriate bus.

This is NOT cheating or trying to work around the rules.
