My DD and I are joining my friend and her DD at WDW during free dining. We are sharing a room, but they're checking out one night earlier than my DD and me.

The facts:

  • My friend and her DD are staying 4 nights; she is paying half of the room rate for 4 nights.
  • DD and I are staying 5 nights; I am paying half of the room rate for 4 nights and all of the 5th night.
  • The 4 of us have enough ADRs to use up 5 credits apiece; if they only get 4 TS credits (since they're staying 4 nights), they would have to pay OOP for one of our TS meals.
  • DD and I have an ADR at BOG for the 5th night; if they get 5 credits, I will have to pay OOP for this meal.

Sooooo ... what would be a fair allocation of our 20 TS and 20 QS credits and why?

TIA!

Based on the way you've detailed the trip, the ONLY "fair" solution is to split the trip in two - one four night package for four, and one one-night package for two. Then the other family uses their five sets of entitlements over four nights, and you use yours over the full five.

The fair allocation is that they would get 2/5 of the credits because they are paying 2/5 of the bill.

If the room was $100/night, that's $500 total. You are paying 1/2 x 4 x $100 plus $100 for the last night. Or $300. They pay $200.

So they should get 8 of the 20 credits.

Personally, I would probably split the "two extra credits." Let them have one and pay OOP for one person's meal and you have one and pay OOP for one person's meal on that 5th night.

What about the QS credits and snack credits? You need to find a way to deal with those as well.

Three replies, three different solutions. Didn't see that coming. :rotfl:

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I messaged my friend and told her I would go along with whatever she feels is fair. It's not worth the stress or awkwardness.

^^ This would have been my solution.

However I would add that you could pay out of pocket for any meal not necessarily the last one. I believe BOG is more expensive and a better deal on the plan there is a decent chance you have another ADR that would be cheaper OOP then this one.

Yep. I was just using BOG as an example. All our ADRs are pricey character meals but I would definitely figure out which was the cheapest for the OOP meal.

I'd split the final 2 credits. But I can see how several different answers are "fair".

1) you've paying the full cost of the room on the 5th night. Instead of a room discount you have free dining, so you should get the benefit of the 5th night for yourself. Therefore you get the final 2 credits

2) But if the friends weren't on the trip then you'd only get 2 credits on the 5th day and not 4. So the extra 2 credits should be split.

I'm not sure I could justify the 2 credits going to the other family as "fair", but it is a nice, simple way of splitting things! :goodvibes

I'm amending my solution slightly.
Still two separate reservations, but...
First reservation is the package with the dining plan free for four nights, with the lower number of days' entry.
Second reservation is room only for the last night for the OP and her daughter only, with her upgrading their park tickets by one day after first use if necessary and either paying OOP for food, or 'hoarding' leftovers if possible.

To be honest, I couldn't completely follow your initial post. I wasn't sure if you were saying to actually split our reservation. :confused3 If we did that, my friend and her DD would only have 4 sets of entitlement, not 5. The same would apply for us (4 not 5) because we wouldn't qualify for the DP for the one-night reservation.

Your follow-up post has me even more confused. Lol! But I do appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. :)

Free dining meal credits go with the # of nights you pay for the hotel room.
The first 4 nights the room cost is split in two and so are all the credits.
The 5th night the room cost is covered by one person (you) so you get the credits. If your friend wants to use half the credits of night #5 then she needs to pay half the hotel cost of night#5. Now, depending on which hotel you are staying at it may be to her benefit rather than paying for a meal for her and her dd oop. She should not get meal credits for one night if she is not paying.
Can't have it both ways.

That being said, the honest thing is to make 2 reservations 4 nights plus 1 night with you and your dd only and then you would not have this dilemma and no potential hard feelings with your friend. Trying to get extra meal credits from Disney would not be worth it to me, imho.

Edited: Just realized that you would not be eligible for FD on your second reservation so forget that. You should not be penalized because your friend is leaving earlier. I stand by my opinion mentioned above. :goodvibes

I agree with this post. This seems to be the correct and fair solution.:)

Completely agree :thumbsup2

This was my thinking, as well. I'm paying for the 5th night, so DD and I should be able to use those credits. I did discuss it with my friend and she said she will pay out of pocket for one of the meals. Thanks for all the input!

Nope, still not reasonable.
You need twelve credits but have ten.
She needs ten credits and technically hss ten because the complete reservation is five nights.
Solution: pict the least expensive venue and each of you pay out of pocket for the less expensive dinner.

OK. Well, thanks again for your opinion, to which you are certainly entitled. As I posted previously, I left the decision up to my friend and she decided what she felt was fair. So, that's that.

I don't know what restaurants you are choosing, but I travel with my adult daughter frequently and we usually share at least one of our meals at WDW and order an Appetizer OOP to share as well. A lot of the meals are plenty for two to share. that would make your credits work out to allow you to have a meal each day of the trip.
