Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

Tuesday morning Charles and I woke up super early and snuck down to the Mara for coffee. While I am no fan of the Nescafe that is served throughout Disney, my need for caffeine far outweighs any coffee snobbery I might have.

As we walked along the pool in the early morning light, we were astonished to see someone sleeping on one of the lounge chairs! We assumed it wasn’t a case of an early morning riser as he was fully clothed, snoring, and there was a tell-tale beer bottle beside him. Wonder if anyone was missing him???

On our way back from the Mara we passed him fully awake and walking. He did not look well-rested.

Back upstairs with coffee in hand, we got ready and woke the kids up. The game plan for today was Disney Hollywood Studios in the morning, back to Animal Kingdom Lodge in time for the children to do the ceramics activity at Simba’s Cubhouse, and back to Disney Hollywood Studios for dinner at the Brown Derby. I was super excited about all of our plans.

On the way to the bus stop we stopped in Zawadi’s to pick up something quick for breakfast. The kids chose chocolate bars and chocolate milk. Really? For breakfast? In my head Responsible Mom warred with Laid-back Vacation Mom. Laid-back Vacation Mom won. Chelsea and Connor were ecstatic that I was allowing them to have a junk food breakfast -- hey, we were on vacation -- might as well have a little fun. To let you know how early we were at the bus stop, our receipt at Zawadi’s said 7:53!

By 8:25 we were at Disney Hollywood Studios with a lot of time ahead of us to wait.

Connor posed by the Star Wars Weekend sign. We wouldn’t end up actually being there on a SWW day, but we saw all the photo backdrops and props set up around the park.

We were the second family in line at the turnstiles on the far right. Chelsea and Connor settled down to eat their oh-so-delicious breakfast and work on The Lost Journals of Walt Disney World. I was so glad that I had thrown that into my bag because it kept them busy the entire time we waited.

We knew we wanted to hightail it straight to Toy Story Mania, so we went ahead and said hi to Bo -- separated though we were by the turnstile. Chelsea leaned as far as she could over and shouted to Bo that she would come back later.

Hollywoodland is so pretty first thing in the morning.

About ten minutes to nine, we were let through the turnstiles and walked as fast as we could towards the rope at Hollywood and Sunset where we stood and waited some more. The sun was beating down on us, and it was quite apparent that it was going to be another hot, hot, hot day. I was so pleased with how far up in the crowd we were though.

114.jpg

I took the opportunity to explain to Chelsea and Connor that once the rope was dropped we were going to hold hands and scurry just as fast as we could to Toy Story Mania. We watched the opening show which is cute with lots of audience participation as the famous Italian film director explained to his extras what he expected of them, and then we were off with everyone else in the horde towards Toy Story Mania.

Lots of people were lining up for Fast Passes, but Chelsea urged us forward into the stand-by line. We hardly paused for breath as we went through the queue, grabbed our 3-D glasses, and loaded into our little vehicles. Chelsea and Connor rode together and there was no Toy Story Mania moment this year. Whew! I don’t remember who won, but I am sure it wasn’t me.

By the time we exited the stand-by line was already 40 minutes long and the Fast Pass line extended as far as the eye could see. I was won over by the idea of getting to the park super early and being at the front for rope drop.

Toy Story Mania checked off our list, we took a few moments to enjoy Pixar Place. When we were there last June, the only thing completed was the ride itself -- all the great theming, the snack place, and the gift shop were new to us.

Connor fell in love with the Bucket of Little Green Men for sale in the gift shop. He wanted to buy it right then and there, but somehow I convinced him to wait. I knew none of us would want to lug it around the rest of the morning.

We went and grabbed Fast Passes for Rock n’ Roller Coaster so Charles and Chelsea could ride it that evening, and then Connor chose where we headed next…

UP NEXT: “It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights…”

UMMMMM, I'm not sure these in Silver really work??? Sorry, but it was just something I felt needed to be said!! :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2 Isn't that what you said yours were, just like these except in silver?? I am thinking they might be too shinny. Of course, that could explain some of the issues that arise with the guys. I mean walking around with their heads hanging down, having your shinny shoes reflecting the sun back into their eyes....yep, it could be YOUR SHOES that is causing some of the problems?? :scared: Who knows, maybe getting them some good sunglasses could help keep some of the Diva issues from hitting the surface?? :cool2: Well, it was just a thought while I waited for your next update........:rolleyes1

OH and you must really, really plan on being up late, since I do think I read in one of your replies that you would be UPDATING sometime TODAY!! Gosh, just looked at my clock and this day is coming to a CLOSE!!! You better get busy!! :rolleyes1

OK......you win.........apparently you were updating as I was posting this...........but it didn't show you on when I started.........sooooooooooooo, you might have won, but I was here first!!!

Well, if they would just look straight ahead and not down at my feet, then maybe they would know where Pizzafari is when it is necessary. :lmao:

Connor did point out that had I let him get the glasses that tint when it is sunny, he would have been much happier at Disney.

Pssst....scroll up! ;)

The kids must have loved laid-back mom! It made me think if the Bill Cosby skit when he lets them eat chocolate cake for breakfast. :lmao:

I'm so glad you were able to get there early for Toy Storymania. That's so crazy over there. Getting there early makes such a difference.

Great start to DHS day!!!

I let my DD eat a brownie, a rice krispie treat, pb&j pizza, and a glass of OJ for breakfast at Chef Mickey's last year. I don't know who was more shocked...my DD or my DH!!!

Nice little muppets song reference. We had our wedding party walk into our reception to that song!

Yes, I edited my other post to acknowledge your stealth post!! :lmao:

I have to agree about Rope Drop, it was one of the best advice tips we got before we went.......though, it's hard to think about getting up early on "vacation", at Disney it really pays off when you do!!!

I wonder if they guy sleeping by the pool......had a choice of sleeping there?? :rolleyes1 Could have been with the beer bottle tell-tale sign that it might have been his only choice of places to "rest"!!! and my guess is that he probably WASN'T missed!!

It does sound like you have a fun-filled packed day ahead. We loved DHS, the girls really got into the rides there....with RNRC being their favorite of all the Disney Rides!!

I do hope that you made it back to pick up Connor's Bucket of Little Green Men?? I am also excited that you leave us with Connor FINALLY getting to choose what you do next. I hope that this isn't one of those times when somebody gently persuades him into doing something "else", besides whatever he wants?? :headache: I bet it does get crowded at DHS on those Star Wars Weekends! Did Connor do OK, not getting to go during one of the Star Wars days?

Great update and glad that all four of you are out and about together and things seem to be off to a GREAT START on this day!! :thumbsup2

Another great update, more great pictures, I love the way you take time to really "look" at what is around you. Great job getting to the park early and getting right on a very popular ride!
I'm glad you let the kids have some chocolate for breakfast! It sounds like a real energy boost!
I hope Connor got his green men in a bucket and am really glad that he didn't pull another TSM!

I'm thinking Muppets are up next!

Great Update Jackie!!!! I'm glad you guys were able to get to TSM first thing in the morning and enjoy the ride!!!!! I can't wait to hear more about your DHS day!!

Fun post CP! I am sold on EMH for two parks only: DHS and MK!!! It makes most sense for DHS (for our family) because TSM is the biggest attraction of interest for my two DS's right now. We followed the same plan on our earlier trip this fall and it worked well... Can't wait to hear how the rest of your day went! I know it was hot, but your sky is a beautiful shade of blue in your photos!!! :goodvibes

I am regretting our decision to skip DHS this trip now. We did TSM in December and loved it. With our water park days and a couple of down days for DTD and pool we didnt have time to fit it in anywhere. Oh, well. We will have a few extra days left on our tickets, maybe I can squeeze half a day in somewhere. :rolleyes1

Exactly!

I'm so glad you were able to get there early for Toy Storymania. That's so crazy over there. Getting there early makes such a difference.

It really does -- five minutes later and we would have been standing in that line.

Great start to DHS day!!!

I let my DD eat a brownie, a rice krispie treat, pb&j pizza, and a glass of OJ for breakfast at Chef Mickey's last year. I don't know who was more shocked...my DD or my DH!!!

 I know my kids were just slack-jawed when I said okay to their choices.

Nice little muppets song reference. We had our wedding party walk into our reception to that song!

What a cute idea! I grew up watching The Muppet Show! It was one of my favorites when I was a kid!

Yes, I edited my other post to acknowledge your stealth post!! :lmao:

I saw that you hurried back and edited your original post -- and you call me sneaky!

I have to agree about Rope Drop, it was one of the best advice tips we got before we went.......though, it's hard to think about getting up early on "vacation", at Disney it really pays off when you do!!!

We've done rope drop before but have never been that far up in the line -- it was great!

I wonder if they guy sleeping by the pool......had a choice of sleeping there?? :rolleyes1 Could have been with the beer bottle tell-tale sign that it might have been his only choice of places to "rest"!!! and my guess is that he probably WASN'T missed!!

:lmao: I didn't think of it that way -- I will have to remember that when Charles makes me angry on vacation next time!

It does sound like you have a fun-filled packed day ahead. We loved DHS, the girls really got into the rides there....with RNRC being their favorite of all the Disney Rides!!

That is Chelsea's favorite ride as well!

I do hope that you made it back to pick up Connor's Bucket of Little Green Men?? I am also excited that you leave us with Connor FINALLY getting to choose what you do next. Oh, he didn't let us forget it -- he ends up with it for sure! Nah, it was all his choice where we headed next. I was surprised, but Connor was really pretty okay with missing SWW -- I think it helped that we had done it the year before.

Great update and glad that all four of you are out and about together and things seem to be off to a GREAT START on this day!! :thumbsup2

Thanks -- that morning at DHS was one of my favorite mornings of the trip.

Another great update, more great pictures, I love the way you take time to really "look" at what is around you.

Thank you -- whenever I get home from vacation, I always wish I had taken more pictures.

Great job getting to the park early and getting right on a very popular ride!

I was just so shocked that we got there that early -- it was completely by chance.

I'm glad you let the kids have some chocolate for breakfast! It sounds like a real energy boost!

I think their sugar high lasted until lunch time! LOL!

I hope Connor got his green men in a bucket and am really glad that he didn't pull another TSM!

Yes, he does get his LGM -- he was determined to spend some of his souvenir money on them.

I'm thinking Muppets are up next!

That is correct! :thumbsup2

Great Update Jackie!!!! I'm glad you guys were able to get to TSM first thing in the morning and enjoy the ride!!!!! I can't wait to hear more about your DHS day!!

Thank you! We were so proud of ourselves being some of the first people on the ride that day.

Thank you! We avoid EMH for the most part, but being at Rope Drop was fantastic that morning.

It was beautifully sunny that day!

:rolleyes1

Like you said, you could always pop over there one morning to do a couple of things like TSM and Tower of Terror -- and then head back to the resort for the pool! :goodvibes

What a nice mom--- that is a breakfast I would like to eat(and sometimes do). That is creepy about the person sleeping at the pool.

Great job getting there early and being in front of the TSM mob!

You're very own drunk story!!!!

Did you look closely...maybe it was me...;)

I have yet to ride TSM...even the one here at DCA..I bet the first time will be at WDW....

I am still astonished at the passed out guy at AKL! I wonder what the CMs do when they encounter such a situation...

Chocolate for breakfast! Go Vacation Mom! Henry asks me for "choc choc" almost every day for breakfast, I think on vacation I will say "YES!" one day too. But just one. ;)

And :woohoo: about getting to the park so early that you didn't even have a wait for TSM! Isn't the themeing in that area great?

YAY!! You were there for rope drop! I didn't realize that HS had an opening show. We didn't make it for rope drop either day we were there. I see you're heading to Muppets 3-D. Unfortunately that's the only thing we were disappointed with our entire trip. Girls like it--us, not so much.

I totally agree about getting to TSM FIRST thing, so GREAT to get in and get out! We didn't stop and enjoy Pixar Place, we will do that FOR SURE next time! Too funny about you convincing Connor to wait on the barrel of monkeys, I have a similar story that almost came back to bite me in the you know where!:rolleyes1

I'm surprised the FP line for TSM was so long when you got out! You must have been some of the first ones to ride. :thumbsup2

Great update :thumbsup2 Love all the pictures of DHS ! Toy Story Mania is such a great ride DS wanted to ride it a 2nd time but we never got back to do it because of the waits :( Glad to see your family really enjoyed it too :) Soo creepy about the guy at the pool !

I love Hollywoodland! :cloud9:

Rope Drop at DHS is so worth it in regards to TSM!

I am so excited to hear about your Brown Derby dinner! :yay:

I'll bet Chelsea and Connor remember their breakfast of champions for a long time. Those out of the ordinary things are what great vacation memories are made of.:thumbsup2

Isn't that TSM dash crazy?! Great job getting there for rope drop and great pictures of Pixar Place. I wish I'd taken more. The speak and spell hanging from a jump rope is my favorite.
