Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

What a fun update, Jackie! I laughed out loud at the conversations with Charles and your dad - what fun! :goodvibes

Sounds like you had an eventful start to your trip!

Great start to your trip. I LOVE road trips!! Aren't they the BEST?? I am so glad you were able to skirt the storms and made it safely to WDW.

Your traffic jam reminded me of our trip back from the World. We were on the toll road....and a wreck had backed up traffic for miles and miles. I guess it added an additional 30 or 40 min. to our travels as well, not to mention several bucks for an expsenive BATHROOM break!! About 20 min. into the bumper to bumper, slow to non moving cars, I hear from the back....I need a bathroom and I need it NOW!! :headache: We were traveling with friends, they were following behind us, but their daughter was riding with our two girls and apparently she needed to go and she needed to go BAD!! :sad2: In hindsight it was probably a good thing it was her and NOT one of my two!! :rolleyes1 Of course, here we are, barely moving (when we were moving) and nothing in sight for as far as we could see. Once we got past the wreck and were moving again, I took the next exit, paid the tolls for both our vehicle and her parents who were behind us and made a beeline to the nearest store. Thankfully, she made it and we soon reloaded, of course having to pay again to get back on the toll road.

Charles sure does sound like a caring and thoughtful husband and father!! :thumbsup2 I'm not sure I would have made a midnight run, but I can see where he knew you would have likely been upset if you had to swing into the station on your way out.......so, it just tells me that he is not only thoughtful and caring, but downright sweet as well!!! Sounds like you gave him one of those Wife answers..........CREAM SODA??? CREAM SODA??? No not Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7-Up, Dr. Pepper, Mt. Dew, not even R.C..........but CREAM SODA??? What is it with you wives, why can't you just order what is on the menu, the way they fix it, and just ask for what every store carries, that is popular?? Poor Charles... I can just see where he likely had to drive all over town only to discover that NO stores carry single CREAM SODAS!!!! I mean I don't know, maybe it's different there, but I am sort of guessing that finding a CREAM SODA at Midnight in Ga. is about like finding a needle in a haystack??? He must be soooooooo sweet to go out a Midnight and attempt to find you a CREAM SODA??? No wonder he needed to bring his pillow.....after driving all over town looking for a CREAM SODA at MIDNIGHT he was probably beyond exhausted!! Then to ask you to slow down so that he could snap a GOOD picture of that MAGICAL sign so you would have it to add to your trip report........just above and beyond.......not only thinking of how you would want it, but trying to insure that you had a good one you could share with each of us!! SO, nice of him to get you to slow down so he could make that happen!! Be sure and thank him from all your faithful readers, new and old.....we appreciate his attention to detail. He sounds like a truly caring and wonderful man, that I am sure would have held your hand if you did choose to ride TOT and RnRC???

I must have JUST missed your update last night, as I was browsing TR's. OMG Hysterical car conversations! I love how all of yours end up with "Really?" sounds like me! :rotfl: My dad is the go to weather and traffic guy too! :thumbsup2

Page 7? :faint: I should be ashamed!

Your car story had me :rotfl: so much. Loved the slower part. Not to hijack your thread but it is a story I must tell on none other than my dear mother.

She wanted to take a picture of the moon one night while her and my dad were driving to Florida. She asked him to slow down and he did. And he waited for her to take the picture... and waited... and waited. UNtil finally he asked what she was waiting for and she said

"I'm waiting to see if we can get a little closer"

:

Oh, you are so making me want to buy DVC now!!! At AKV, of course! We never made it over to Kidani to explore, but I didn't quite know what to think when the buses went that way. I would love the extra space of a one or two bedroom villa though.

I have no regrets over buying DVC. You should definately look into it, especially if you plan to stay at AKL for future visits. My home resort is SSR, but I had no trouble getting the 2BR villa at AKL at 7 months out. I want to try all the DVC resorts, but I will definately stay at AKL as much as I can in the future. I just fell in love with the lodge and I loved the African themed music playing 24/7. My villa was not even savannah view, because I was trying to save points, and it was still wonderful. I'll post pictures early on in my TR once I get it up and running!

Was Charles wearing comfy pj bottoms for the drive too?

Great update!

Subbing! lol...the "zebra domes" in the the title pulled me in. :) Can't wait for more!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::

Great update! I'm cracking up! So funny!

Glad you made it there safe and sound and away from the storm!

Can't wait for more!

Jackie: Lawd have mercy! Loved the conversations on the way down. Too bad you didn't get a picture of Charles with his pillow. LOL Glad you made it there safely and without hitting any storms.

When we went last June we had stopped in South Carolina for a bathroom break and drinks (aka pop, soda and/or Coke! LOL). I'd been driving up to that point and Clay took over the driving when we left the gas station. It was getting close to dark and the sky was an ominous black color; definitely a big storm coming. We aren't on 85S long before the rains starts pouring down and I'm wishing I was driving again because I hate the way Clay drives. LOL Clay had to do the slam on the brakes thing too because we were coming up on construction. He about gave me a heart attack! And, just as we're getting to where the 2 lanes are down to 1 Hannah pipes up in the backseat "I need to go potty....NOW!!!" For the love of pete child! We just entered a construction zone with one lane and NO way to pull over and nowhere to pull off! We finally got through, with Hannah doing the potty dance in her booster seat, and Clay was trying to make it for the exit but couldn't get past a big semi truck so I yelled at him to "PULL OVER RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW!!!" So we pulled off the road, I jumped out of the seat, threw the door open and yanked Hannah's pj bottoms down by the side of the interstate. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Thankfully the crisis was averted and we got back on the road without any further difficulties. LOL

My family is very lucky to great special surprises in the mail from Dis Friends...

(sorry...there is no picture of me with my postcard lol)

Jackie- thanks for the wonderful surprises in the mailbox this week. I love Mickey Mail!!!

Heidi, those pics of the kids with their postcards are just too cute! Danica looks like such a happy baby, what a great smile.

 Oh no, what a ride! Despite all the drama I'm glad you all arrived safe and sound. Can't wait for more :thumbsup2

That is so neat about the exchange student!!! Do you know any French? I bet she will be lots of fun to have around!

We're excited. But getting it approved by my school was a nightmare. :scared1: I started taking my first year of french this last year and I'm skipping a year and going into French 3 at the start of the year. It's gonna be hard, but hopefully rewarding. ;)

Oh my, look at little Danica. She is a Disney Princess in Training for sure!

Liam looks too cute! He's gotten big since your trip in November!

Going back to page 3...

It boggles my mind to think of what would match Pop. :lmao:

This made me laugh out loud! :goodvibes But it actually might be kinda cute...bright colors, kinda crazy...

Yes, foreshadowing -- I haven't said anything yet as to why Charles wasn't around very much.

Uh-oh. :sad2:
Does he really like his pillow? ;)

The drama of the car ride had me laughing. Connor's comment was hilarious! :rotfl: I can imagine that many hours in close quarters, early in the morning would test the nerves a bit.

At least all that slowing down resulting in a decent picture!

Up Next: Pixie Dust So Soon?

Ooooh-oooooh was your room ready, or did you get an upgrade? :hyper:

Hi there! I'm in for this TR - just the ride down was a hoot! Sounds like you are from my neck of the woods. What a good wife you are to drive - I make DH do most of the driving :thumbsup2
What is it with men and gas station convenience stores? We cannot stop and just get gas - DH always has to go in and get something! :rotfl:
Looking forward to more!

My family is very lucky to great special surprises in the mail from Dis Friends...

I forgot to tell you Brooklynn got her postcard, too, and as busy as Jill has been, I don't know if she's told you, either.
So, I'm telling you now, since I was reminded by MRYPPNS - Thanks for your kindness!

My zebra domes, however, have not yet arrived. :upsidedow

Oh my goodness, CP.

I'm about to give you some high praise here. Are you ready? Are you sitting down?

You know how people will say, oh, that's so funny, or, that made me laugh, but they don't really mean it.

Hon, I laughed out loud. And I don't mean LOLed. I mean, literally, outloud. DS even looked to see what was so funny. How do I explain that poor Connor asking everyone to be quiet so he could read coupled with your dad trying to help you (and yes I did know rain comes in different colors), and Charles, the asleep diva, is what put me over the top.

Oh. My. Word.

We're not quite there yet, and already I'm loving it. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::thumbsup2

Love this report so far, I can tell its going to be a fun trip! Your description of driving with your DH is pretty much the reason my DH and I take two cars on our annual vacation (that and the 2 tons of stuff we bring). You really had me laughing. :rotfl: Keep those updates coming!
