Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

Okay, I'm checking in! I have seen you on so many of the same threads I'm on - I thought I'd get to know you! So far your family looks like alot of fun and I'm only on page 2. I can't wait to hear all about it - AKL is my dream stay, too! We stayed there 2 nights with my buds the giraffes, but I do want to stay longer next time!:thumbsup2

Okay, love your drive down! I'm glad Charles got his nappie and you made it safely without the big storm. :cool1:

So at this point, can one assume that Connor had been the most well-behaved passenger on the trip?

What was he reading?

Or perhaps he was quietly taking notes on what to do in the future (when he's the dad) to drive his wife crazy on road trips?

I was also wondering what Connor was doing during the trip! Mr. Road Trip Diva may be annoying but you have to admit also adorable with his required road trip accessories (drink, pillow, biscuit), getting hyper, and needing the picture of the Welcome to WDW sign. :)

I think it's going to be a great trip!! :upsidedow

Oh my Charles really lived up to the road diva name huh?:rolleyes1 Yes, I DID know that rain came in colors and I am so happy to be a fellow weather geek! So happy you all arrived in one piece! Can't wait to hear about the pixie dust!!:goodvibes

Great start! Glad you made it despite the traffic jam. I like your Dad, Ihappen to be a wee bit weather geekish myself so I admire that in a person!
Allyson

Charles is a Hoot!!

And I loved that Connor was being the voice of reason! :lmao:

Good job; my DH has a hard time letting anyone else drive.... that's the most welcoming sign in the world, isn't it?

Kathy

LOL Road Trip Diva that is hilarious!! What a great update Jackie!! Love Dumb and Dumber so I probably would have joined in with them LOL!!! SO glad you made it safely and no big storms to drive through!!!!! Can't wait to hear more!!

What a hilarious recap of the drive! At one point in reading I was thinking "Kids can pick the most annoying things to do on a trip..... WAIT! Charles is the Dad!" :)

I'm not sure which is more appropriate:  or :sad2:

I'm assuming at this point pixie dust trumps a diva husband? (I hope)

What a great start to your vacation. Charles is a riot. :rotfl: I can just picture him walking out of the house carrying his pillow. :lmao: Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip.

How soon?

My eyes are closing, so I'm going to bed, but you know I'll be up bright and early (really it's dark and early) checking in here for new news! :)

Hope you had sweet dreams, MeMom. The update took me a long time to write, but I knew you would enjoy it first thing this morning.

HAHA OMG your car story was so funny!!! I love the "slower, slower" part!!! My boss was up in Macon camping you probably shared a road with him at some point, look we're that much closer to six degrees of separation!! I want to come up to Georgia and camp in the winter and go skiing, do they have that?

It was quite funny to experience. Only later in the week did I realize that Charles had no idea how to work the zoom on the camera -- that's what probably took so long. That's neat about your boss. There are lots of places to camp in Georgia, but for skiing you would have to go to North Carolina or Tennessee.

Aren't all men the same? I swear they can't listen, DH is the same way! I am loving the TR so far! glad to see that the weather cooperated with you and you made it to my happy place safe and sound!

Thank you! Yes, I think most men can be similar. Ha Ha!

I laughed out loud reading your car trip recap--I'm sure it will be the first of many funny moments:rotfl2:

Thank you! Yes, it was just the beginning!

:rotfl::rotfl::lmao::lmao::rotfl::rotfl:

Oh my goodness I am laughing so hard! Your recreations of the conversations are killing me here. Seems like Charles was starting the trip off with an interesting mood.... But, yay! You made it to Disney!

Can't wait to read more.

(Oh, and I got some news the other day. My family is taking in a foreign exchange student from France this upcoming school year. So excited. She'll be here for an entire year. I'm positive I'll have her hooked on the DIS in no time.)

He was in a typical Charles mood. ;)

That is so neat about the exchange student!!! Do you know any French? I bet she will be lots of fun to have around!

Great update Jackie, the whole dialogue had me rolling!:rotfl2:
Do you always drive the entire way down?!?

Thank you! Sometimes I "let" Charles drive --especially if the weather is bad. Otherwise, I like to drive because it seems to make the time go faster, and I don't do well just sitting in the passenger seat -- I tend to play with the radio endlessly and smack my gum too loud. LOL!

Your update got me to thinking......

I think I will have my wife drive us to Disney next summer.

I just checked Mapquest and it is only a little over 21 hours from our town to the world.

I think she can handle that without any problems!

I mean, if you can make that drive from Atlanta, I think she can make the drive from Kansas.

Now, now, Shocker, don't get any ideas! Your trip would be three times longer than ours from Atlanta, and I can promise you that by the time we reach Disney we are about ready to come out of our skins from being in the car too long.

Keep to flying. Although from some of yours and Wigd's comments, you might have been able to get home faster by driving rather than flying this last time!

:welcome: I have seen you around lots, too! I fell in love with the giraffes! I definitely want to stay at AKL again and again and again!

Okay, love your drive down! I'm glad Charles got his nappie and you made it safely without the big storm. :cool1:

Yes, my Sleeping Beauty was quite refreshed by the time we hit Florida. We were so lucky to miss most of the rain!

So at this point, can one assume that Connor had been the most well-behaved passenger on the trip?

What was he reading?

Or perhaps he was quietly taking notes on what to do in the future (when he's the dad) to drive his wife crazy on road trips?

Yes, in fact, I announced in the car at one point, "The Best Behaved Passenger Award goes to Connor!" He was quite pleased with himself.

He was rereading The Kingdom Keepers.

His poor wife in later years...I will feel sorry for her as long as she loves Disney. LOL!

:upsidedow

Both Chelsea and Connor were so quiet for the majority of the trip -- they watched movies, played games, and read -- I hardly noticed they were in the backseat.

Charles was funny with all of his little quirks.

Oh my Charles really lived up to the road diva name huh?:rolleyes1 Yes, I DID know that rain came in colors and I am so happy to be a fellow weather geek! So happy you all arrived in one piece! Can't wait to hear about the pixie dust!!:goodvibes

Yes, he truly embraced his inner Road Trip Diva. :rotfl:

Yeay for fellow weather geeks!!!

It was awesome pixie dust, I promise!

Great start! Glad you made it despite the traffic jam. I like your Dad, Ihappen to be a wee bit weather geekish myself so I admire that in a person!
Allyson

Thank you! My dad was wonderful -- he really took his job as my weather alert person seriously -- there were a couple of other conversations that we had that I didn't include. :goodvibes

Charles is a Hoot!!

And I loved that Connor was being the voice of reason! :lmao:

Good job; my DH has a hard time letting anyone else drive.... that's the most welcoming sign in the world, isn't it?

Kathy

Thank you! Yes, Charles is a mess! We had a good laugh over Connor fussing at Chelsea and Charles because he sounded so annoyed. I prefer to drive just so I have something to do. I hate sitting and doing nothing.

It's the best sign in the world!

LOL Road Trip Diva that is hilarious!! What a great update Jackie!! Love Dumb and Dumber so I probably would have joined in with them LOL!!! SO glad you made it safely and no big storms to drive through!!!!! Can't wait to hear more!!

Thank you! We love Dumb and Dumber at my house -- it was one of the first movies Charles and I went to see when I moved to Atlanta. It's got so many classic scenes.

It was a fun update to write.

What a hilarious recap of the drive! At one point in reading I was thinking "Kids can pick the most annoying things to do on a trip..... WAIT! Charles is the Dad!" :)

Thank you! Yes, I routinely have to tell Charles that he is as bad as the kids!

I'm not sure which is more appropriate:  or :sad2:

I'm assuming at this point pixie dust trumps a diva husband? (I hope)

The more appropriate response is laughter -- always laughter -- it helps reduce stress. :thumbsup2

Yes, the pixie dust trumps the diva in the next update!

What a great start to your vacation. Charles is a riot. :rotfl: I can just picture him walking out of the house carrying his pillow. :lmao: Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip.

:welcome: Thank you! When I turned and saw that pillow clutched to him, I about died laughing!

Your road trip was just too funny! Brought back alot of memories of those drives to Florida. Makes me very happy I usually fly now. :) A day of family togetherness I can take and enjoy, but two or more....just not fun.

Can't wait to hear about the arrival at AKL!

OMG! Why is there ALWAYS traffic on I-75S right before you make it to Valdosta. I swear they have been working on that area since I was in undergrad (10 years ago)!!!! I get so upset when we can't make it there in 6 hours. Lol. Great start! Yay!!!!

We should be at the Florida border, but we have lost a lot of time between Macon and here because of road work.

there is ALWAYS road work between macon and valdosta! drives me nuts.

Charles: Go slowly so I can take a picture.
I slow down.
Charles: Slower.
I slow down some more.
Charles: Slower.
Me: I am doing two miles an hour! Take the picture!

:rotfl2:

yay.....YOU'RE THERE!!!! :yay:

I'm sitting here at work cracking up over your road trip descriptions. I hope we get a lot more dialouge through the TR because it's really hilarious! :lmao:

I love that your Dad was tracking the weather for you, too cute.

I really wish you had a picture of Charles with his pillow. :rotfl2:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Your road trip was quite entertaining. I feel your pain anytime we go on a long trip DH feels the need to talk like the guy from Sling Blade. So everything is: "I reckon" and "Um-Hum". :sad2:

The only plus to our road trips is DH never breaks driving rules and cant stand to ride with me because I am a bad driver,:drive: so he insist on driving the entire time. I tend to drive as fast as I talk, which sometimes can be pretty fast. Break my heart.
