Your road trip was just too funny! Brought back alot of memories of those drives to Florida. Makes me very happy I usually fly now. A day of family togetherness I can take and enjoy, but two or more....just not fun.
Can't wait to hear about the arrival at AKL!
We can handle about seven hours in the car together -- after that seventh hour we all just start to unravel! LOL!
OMG! Why is there ALWAYS traffic on I-75S right before you make it to Valdosta. I swear they have been working on that area since I was in undergrad (10 years ago)!!!! I get so upset when we can't make it there in 6 hours. Lol. Great start! Yay!!!!
Don't I know it! I cannot remember a time when there wasn't road work before Valdosta -- what are they even doing there???
Thank you!
there is ALWAYS road work between macon and valdosta! drives me nuts.
yay.....YOU'RE THERE!!!!
It is inevitable that we have to slow down to 50 miles per hour there! Grrrr!
We made it!
Thank you!
I'm sitting here at work cracking up over your road trip descriptions. I hope we get a lot more dialouge through the TR because it's really hilarious!
I love that your Dad was tracking the weather for you, too cute.
I really wish you had a picture of Charles with his pillow.
I have many conversations for this trip report.
I really didn't expect him to do it. That Friday at dinner I said, "They are calling for thunderstorms all the way to Orlando tomorrow. I need you to be near your computer from about 6:30 until 3:00 and call me with hourly updates." He was a gem to take me seriously!
If I hadn't been in such a hurry to get on the road, I probably would have thought to snap a pic. I did say to him, "Oh, I am so using this in the trip report." LOL!

Your road trip was quite entertaining. I feel your pain anytime we go on a long trip DH feels the need to talk like the guy from Sling Blade. So everything is: "I reckon" and "Um-Hum".
The only plus to our road trips is DH never breaks driving rules and cant stand to ride with me because I am a bad driver,

so he insist on driving the entire time. I tend to drive as fast as I talk, which sometimes can be pretty fast.

Break my heart.
Thank you! Sling Blade? That would drive me nuts! LOL!
It would also drive me nuts to not do the driving -- Charles follows other cars too closely and he weaves in and out of traffic. I would be a nervous wreck.
What a fun update, Jackie! I laughed out loud at the conversations with Charles and your dad - what fun!
Sounds like you had an eventful start to your trip!
Thank you! It's never a dull moment when we take a car trip!
Great start to your trip. I LOVE road trips!! Aren't they the BEST?? I am so glad you were able to skirt the storms and made it safely to WDW.
Your traffic jam reminded me of our trip back from the World. We were on the toll road....and a wreck had backed up traffic for miles and miles. I guess it added an additional 30 or 40 min. to our travels as well, not to mention several bucks for an expsenive BATHROOM break!! About 20 min. into the bumper to bumper, slow to non moving cars, I hear from the back....I need a bathroom and I need it NOW!!

We were traveling with friends, they were following behind us, but their daughter was riding with our two girls and apparently she needed to go and she needed to go BAD!!

In hindsight it was probably a good thing it was her and NOT one of my two!!

Of course, here we are, barely moving (when we were moving) and nothing in sight for as far as we could see. Once we got past the wreck and were moving again, I took the next exit, paid the tolls for both our vehicle and her parents who were behind us and made a beeline to the nearest store. Thankfully, she made it and we soon reloaded, of course having to pay again to get back on the toll road.
Like you said, it is probably a very good thing that it wasn't one of yours that needed to make a stop -- especially if you are like us -- we would have immediately started the "why didn't you go thirty minutes ago when the rest of us went???" When it is someone else's you have to be nice.
Charles sure does sound like a caring and thoughtful husband and father!!

I'm not sure I would have made a midnight run, but I can see where he knew you would have likely been upset if you had to swing into the station on your way out.......so, it just tells me that he is not only thoughtful and caring, but downright sweet as well!!! Sounds like you gave him one of
those Wife answers..........CREAM SODA??? CREAM SODA??? No not Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7-Up, Dr. Pepper, Mt. Dew, not even R.C..........but CREAM SODA??? What is it with you wives, why can't you just order what is on the menu, the way they fix it, and just ask for what every store carries, that is popular?? Poor Charles... I can just see where he likely had to drive all over town only to discover that NO stores carry single CREAM SODAS!!!! I mean I don't know, maybe it's different there, but I am sort of guessing that finding a CREAM SODA at Midnight in Ga. is about like finding a needle in a haystack??? He must be soooooooo sweet to go out a Midnight and attempt to find you a CREAM SODA??? No wonder he needed to bring his pillow.....after driving all over town looking for a CREAM SODA at MIDNIGHT he was probably beyond exhausted!! Then to ask you to slow down so that he could snap a GOOD picture of that MAGICAL sign so you would have it to add to your trip report........just above and beyond.......not only thinking of how you would want it, but trying to insure that you had a good one you could share with each of us!! SO, nice of him to get you to slow down so he could make that happen!! Be sure and thank him from all your faithful readers, new and old.....we appreciate his attention to detail. He sounds like a truly caring and wonderful man, that I am sure would have held your hand if you did choose to ride TOT and RnRC???

Wow! What a different perspective...I assumed that Charles was simply trying to ratchet my stress up a few more notches by waking me up in the dead of night. I pictured him lying there and thinking, "What can I do to make Jackie flip out? I know! I will go get the drinks that I should have let her get two days before, and I will demand that she make a snap decision while only groggily awake as to what she wants to drink in the morning." I never thought he was being so thoughtful.
As far as the cream soda, I knew the gas station in question had it -- and it sounded good at 11:30 at night. And don't be fooled -- he didn't search all over town for it -- I don't even think he really looked at the labels to see if they had it. LOL!
However, I know Charles will be feeling quite smug -- I mean pleased -- that someone else is in his corner. I will be sure to pass your praises along to him. LOL!
I must have JUST missed your update last night, as I was browsing TR's. OMG Hysterical car conversations! I love how all of yours end up with "Really?" sounds like me!

My dad is the go to weather and traffic guy too!
I really wish I had a one-eyebrow-raised smiley to go along with my "Really?" because that was the facial expression I was sporting.
Dads are the best!
Page 7?

I should be ashamed!
Your car story had me

so much. Loved the slower part. Not to hijack your thread but it is a story I must tell on none other than my dear mother.
She wanted to take a picture of the moon one night while her and my dad were driving to Florida. She asked him to slow down and he did. And he waited for her to take the picture... and waited... and waited. UNtil finally he asked what she was waiting for and she said
"I'm waiting to see if we can get a little closer"
Hurray! Debra is here!
I LOVE the story about your mom and the moon! That's classic!!!
