GO! I went to WDW by myself on my birthday once and had a great time!

If she can go the week before with you, maybe just go then. In all the years I've gone to DL, only once have I been on my actual birthday. I usually go that month and still get a birthday button. Even this year, I'll be at DL Oct. 21-23, but my b-day is the 24th. I just celebrate all week long! :thumbsup2
In any case, hope you find a plan that works for you.

No matter what, any time that she is able to go we will. It will be a shorter trip for her than I originally had thought but we will go. And I will definitely get a birthday button. I just really wanted to be there ON my birthday.

I may still go/stay for my birthday but am afraid of my depression grabbing hold if I do do a solo day for my birthday. I've been hoping to get some other friends to be able to go so we will see but the timing all depends on my best friends schedule so other friends may not be able to go on shorter notice. (Plus not many of my other friends understand my Disney obsession!)

I just really wanted to be there ON my birthday.
I know. Hopefully you'll be able to get some others to go along, or even come later and meet you on your actual birthday. Or if you do opt to stay on solo for your special day, maybe treat yourself to something you normally wouldn't do to make it special. A shopping spree or special meal or something.
I'm sure it will work out. :wizard:

The helmet issue is easily taken car of at our house and I am just the grandma. Wear or don't ride.

I do not think it is right to scare kids but not long ago a young child just fell of his bike, was not hit just fell and hit side of his head on the curb. He died. :(. It was an accident but :( and I hate to say a helmet probably would have made all the difference.

One time I was bringing a personal size watermelon in to my home--it slipped out of my arms ( I was carrying to much) and would you not know it broke apart upon contact with walkway. Grandson was with me and instead of saying #$%^&*(@#$$&* I let him know that is what could happen to his beautiful face and head if he did not wear helmet. He, when the time came let is sister know she was going to wear helmet and why. First time he told her it was actually funny. He explained the whole insident. It worked for him to see, might work with your kids.

They make the helmets so light and easy to use now and the designs are certainly fun.

Keep being that good momma. They will thank you later.

Patty

Oh let your 16 year old know most people think 12 yea olds that do not wear helmets are well Dumb. When I see older child wear one I think what a great mentor he is to the young ones.

Paula,

As long as you are getting older all is good it is the alternative that should make you sad.

This year celebrate what ever day works. Remember there are only so many days in a year and you could have been born a week earlier or later.

Age is just a number. I don't feel like I am gonna be 59 very soon. I do like the sounds of 59. Actually 59 1/2 sounds better I can start taking out of my IRA then LOL. So this year I get two birthday celebrations.

I do understand how you feel. When I turned 30 I was still without a child. had been taking fertility meds for 4+ years with no result in sight. My sister bought me a t-shirt that said 29 and holding. I think I wore that t-shirt till I was 40 LOL.

Have the birthday you feel like. If you feel 21 then let that be your birthday number this year.

Go, have fun, go home have another party. See it will all work out.

Patty

Happy Saturday Ladies! :hippie:

I'm heading out to Michael's to get some framing done that I have been putting off for a few years (yeah I am that much of a procrastinator). Think I will stop at Starbucks :drinking1 Mocha, notfat WITH whip

Have a great day!

Oh and I will be ordering the Photopass CD from our trip later today or tomorrow.

It is Saturday huh? I'm about to go take my nap (starting work a little earlier tonight - we'll see how that works out) but I had to post the cuties that arrived in the mail today!

Hi Everyone! I have some catching up to do but needed to share with people who understand. I REALLY want to spend my birthday at DL this year and I thought I had the perfect plan and my best friend from college would be sharing it with me. It turns out she likely has to be back to work the day before my birthday so won't be able to spend it with me. She is able to go the week before hand (most likely) so we will still be able to spend some time together and enjoy DL but she won't be able to stay through my birthday. Normally I don't have a problem going to DL solo but if I did DL solo on my birthday I just know I will be depressed. Problem is, if I'm home I'll be depressed too!

It is fun to spend your B-day at Disneyland. I'm lucky because our ladies trip is a couple of days before mine, so I get to celebrate my b-day with lots of Divas :cheer2:

So in the end, I told him he had to wear it and he was pretty mad at me. :sad2: Now I feel like a horrible mom. I just don't understand why more parents don't enforce a helmet rule?? :confused3 I see little kids out there on their bikes or zipping by on scooters and they are totally unprotected. I guess I am just one of those over-protective, paranoid moms. :confused3

No questions asked here - it's wear a helmet or don't ride. Period. I don't care if other kids don't have to wear one. It's not safe to go without it. Just last year, a 12 yo boy died from a skateboarding head injury near us. It wasn't even a "big accident". He slipped and fell, hit his head on the curb - walked away from it, no problems. Except that he had a bleed and died later that night. Not worth it to me. Tell Adam that Jesse wears his helmet ::yes::

Too cute!!! I love them. I can't wait until next month and I can pick some more up for me :upsidedow

Our kids are the only ones in our neighborhood with helmets on too......but if they don't wear them, the bikes, scooters & skateboards get put up.

Mike was a paramedic for 12 years......there is no arguement on the helmet rule!!

I had a guy I coached in a city men's softball team......super smart......rode his bike everywhere. One night coming home from the game, he hit a rock & flipped. He was found the next morning in the ditch. He had a major head injury & when it was all said & done......he barely could speak. So Beth, let your kids know.......even the safest, smartest people can still have an accident & that's all it can take......one crash & it can totally change their lives.

Well the rodent count is at 3.......hopefully that's it......I can't take much more. Found out our neighbor is having issues too & it started about 3 weeks ago....same time it started here. They're going to call the city too to complain. They have to have garbage service if living in the city limits. So I hope this gets dealt with immediately!!

You'll have to share what you get!! I'm still working on trading the ones I don't want to keep for those I do. I need to start saving up for stuff to buy in September though, when I get back to DLR and can use my AP discount to buy a few more. Bad, bad obsession.

The Marie is going to my cousin though. It's her favorite character and I'm excited to help her out with it. And I won a second pink elephant chaser today in a raffle that cost me $6. Talk about a steal. Makes me happy.

Hey girls, I think I'm finally caught up!

We had a fantaastic time in WDW, but I am still recovering. I got home around 8:00 Wednesday night and had to work Thursday and Friday, so today has been my lazy day.

Go !!!! I've gone alone many times and had lots of fun. You can do whatever you want, eat where you want and just go at your own pace. Take a tour. I did the Christmas tour alone and was surprised by the number of 'alone' people there were. They all said that when they go with family/friends, no one ever wants to do the tours.
I have a bad mommy rant to share. :(

All the kids in this neighborhood are always out and about on bikes, skateboards, scooters, etc. and none of them regardless of age ever wear helmets. Ever.

.
I have never seen the kids in my neighborhood wear helmets.
Something you could say to your son is to tell him that when he has kids of his own one day you hope that he will love them enough to insist they wear helmets. Maybe he'll 'get it", maybe not but it's worth a try.

The helmet issue is easily taken car of at our house and I am just the grandma. Wear or don't ride.
Thanks Patty. I'm glad to see others who enforce the helmet rule. :thumbsup2

Think I will stop at Starbucks :drinking1
Have you tried those cake balls/cake pops they sell? Ruben's boss bought some and so Ruben brought one home the other day and it was not good at all. Pure mush on the inside. Didn't taste like cake at all. I think mine are better. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Cute! I like the Marie one.

Wow, that is so scary. And tragic. :sad2: I will tell him Jesse wears one! That's good to know. I just don't understand why, why, why none of the parents around here make their kids wear helmets. I see kids zipping by on bikes, skateboards and scooters all the time with no protection, even on busy main streets. And I just don't get it. :confused3

I bet Mike saw some scary stuff. Glad you enforce it, too. :thumbsup2 I feel better knowing I'm not the only one!

Welcome back, Tina! I loved seeing all the pics of you all on FB. Looks like everyone had fun!

I did. I told him I was sorry, and that I know he gets embarrassed but it's not up for discussion, and that I hoped one day he'd love his kid enough to embarrass him or her as well. He did wear his helmet and always does, he's just the only one in his group so he gets teased. But.....I'm still not budging on this.

Happy Sunday, ladies!! :sunny:

Another weekend is flying right on by! We made almost $40 yesterday in the yard sale. Not bad considering nothing was really priced above 50 cents. lol
The kids worked so hard we used the money to order take out for lunch for them. Bonus for me not having to cook either. ;)

Today I am meeting Jane/cheshiregirl for an early lunch, then I've got some errands to do.

Three weeks from today we will be heading for San Diego! I can't wait. I hope and pray everyone is well by then.

Well, take care and enjoy what's left of the weekend!

Oh yeah, and here's more cheers for our Mouse Adventure girls today, and for Jen who's running in Santa Cruz!!! GO GIRLS!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Morning everyone!!

Beth I totally get the frustration over the helmets but you are doing the right thing!! I agree with the others that you just have to put your foot down on that one and know that you are doing what is best even when it is hard!

Congrats on the yard sale!! And yay for your trip being so close!! We still have a couple months till ours and I cannot WAIT!! I am SO ready!!

Paula I am sorry your friend can't go but I was going to see we are going to be there during that time and I know that we have never met but if you feel weird being there alone you are MORE than welcome to hang with us that day. I am not sure what our schedule is at this point but I know that I would feel a little weird being totally alone too. I agree with the gals that you CAN have a fun day and it is nice to be able to do whatever you want but just know that we WILL be there that day and if you want someone to hang with you are more than welcome to hang with us!! :)

Anyway yesterday we FINALLY got all our stuff up and running with our internet so hopefully this new company works out!!

Today we are off to register the girls for soccer for next season and then off to the grocery store and that's bout it. Looking forward to some more relaxation before more LONG days of swim practice LOL.

Hope everyone has a nice relaxing and fun Sunday!!

I agree on the helmet issue... Colton has 2 sets one cars one spiderman that include not just the helmet but knee & elbow pads too. He loves skateboardig and riding his bike but he is required to wear the helmet on the bike and when skateboarding the pads are required too. Here you only see helmets on the little ones on the tiny bikes but by the time they start school you don't see them anymore. Colton really likes watching "stunt" stuff on TV like Tony Hawk and once we pointed out that the pros wear their helmets he has not complained once he even has a couple of his friends wearing theirs so that they can play at being pro riders... So try the "even the pros know to wear their helmets" tack it couldn't hurt.

I have a bad mommy rant to share. :(

All the kids in this neighborhood are always out and about on bikes, skateboards, scooters, etc. and none of them regardless of age ever wear helmets. Ever.

So the past two Christmases my kids have gotten new bikes, and scooters, BUT I have a helmet rule. It's simple, you either wear your helmet or you don't go out on your bike, scooter, etc. And this applies to my 10 year old twins as well as my older two kids.

Well, Adam (who's 16) has a fit every time. He doesn't want to wear his helmet, none of his friends wear one so why should he, they make fun of him, etc. (and we even bought him a "cool" helmet to wear)
The thing is, I feel his pain. I do. I am so torn on this issue because on the one hand, I don't want to embarrass him. But God forbid anything should happen and he is seriously injured because he doesn't have a helmet on. How would I feel then???

So in the end, I told him he had to wear it and he was pretty mad at me. :sad2: Now I feel like a horrible mom. I just don't understand why more parents don't enforce a helmet rule?? :confused3 I see little kids out there on their bikes or zipping by on scooters and they are totally unprotected. Oh well. I just had to vent.

Beth - I so understand! My son is 15 and is the only one in his group that even owns a helmet! I also enforce the helmet rule - and he is not happy about it. I lecture his friends but...

I, unfortunately, have a compelling argument. Last year my father slipped and hit his head and died. I have tried to tell the kids that you hit your head and bad things can happen. They just think they are invincible at this age. My son just thinks I am a worry wart. I wish his friend's parents would enforce the helmet rule but I have no control over them - just my son.

Now what is weird is that I noticed that almost all of the kids wear helmets skiing!! If we could just get them to see that biking carries the same risk.

:goodvibes Happy Sunday Morning all

Just chilling a the moment, then have to get up and have the gusto to clean this house, I am seeing little bitty tumbleweed furballs in the corners, Wilson is starting to shed :scared1:

Spent yesterday at Costco, and then shopping some discount stores with my mom and sister, a fun day was had. Love shopping and finding good deals.

Beth, helmet thing goes in our house, although we have no kiddos, I wear a helmet and Ross wears his, we bike, and he does extreme Mt. Biking, so helmets are a must. He also wears one snowboarding, he had a bad accident a few years ago and demolished the helmet it was cracked and horrible, but he saved his hear  Same rule for the niece and nephew, no helmet no bike, scooter!

Laurie, sorry about the rats :scared1: I would go running so fast :scared1:

Okie Dokie, must go clean, or move stuff around so it looks like I did

Happy Sunday ladies!

Congrats to Jen for her Santa Cruz Half-Marathon performance. She finished in 2:48:35! Way to go Jen! :cool1:

Beautiful weather today, and so different from yesterday's strange spring weather. On Saturday we started with snow in the morning, then rain. Next came some sunshine, followed by hail and wind. Finished the day off with overcast skies.

Gotta get my 6 miles in this afternoon. I'll use Jen's time in her Half today as my inspiration.

We had a family BBQ today and enjoyed the fabulous sunshine. It's been a great weekend.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. What an awful accident. :(
I agree, kids think they are invincible. It's scary just how careless some of them are. I'm glad to see so many of you here are enforcing the helmet rule! Makes me feel good and less like I'm being paranoid.

Congrats to Jen on her great time!!
All you runners are just making me feel so lazy. Really. Stop it. :p

Today was gorgeous here! Had a wonderful lunch outside with Jane. We went to Whole Foods, and I have to say, I had no idea they had such an extensive salad bar, and food area. Wow. It was really good too. A bit pricey, but still good once in awhile.

I came home and cooked, baked some cake balls for Ruben's work, did laundry and now I am pooped! Ready to shower and hit my pillow. As usual, the weekend went too darn fast.
Night night, ladies!! :cloud9:
