Can someone please give me an idea of how long of a walk it is from SSR (grandstand area) to McDonalds? DH is thinking he is going to walk over there every morning for coffee. I am thinking 15-20 minutes?

probably - but he can take the boat - okay walking is probably faster.

it took 10 minutes from congress park - so add 10 minutes (might be 15 minutes)- yea 20 minutes.
you are at DTD mp in 5 minutes - but MacDonalds is a walk.

tell him to remember - to go to the path as sound as he see the bus stop - it is behind the building and pool.

the cm tell people to wait and go in the end - but that is a bunch longer.

here is the marketplace

you come in where the bus stop is - behind Wolfgang puck express

The boats don't start running till like 10 or 11 so the boats are not an option for a 7 am coffee run!

More like 20 minutes ONE WAY, I'd say. The distance from the closest Grandstand building to McD's is roughly 1 mile.

He'd be much better off making a morning coffee run to Artist's Palette. With refillable mugs the coffee is free and comes in a spill-proof container. Going to McD's he'll be hungry by the time he gets there and the coffee will be gone by the time he returns.

On the bright side, that's a good 40 minutes you have to yourself to sleep in, shower, watch TV, etc.:happytv:

Check the distances in the map in my sig. DTD is roughly the same width as one end of Congress Park to the Grandstand.

It's a nice walk in the mornings.

Dh and I love to take early morning walks around SSR and thru DTD. I agree it will take about 15-20 min but DTD is lovely in the mornings. They still have the music playing on all the speakers and all the shopkeepers are opening up and they wave hello and smile:lovestruc

It reminds me Belle walking thru town saying Bon Jour!:goodvibes

It's a great walk to DTD in the morning from SSR. We have only stayed in Congress Park, so it was less of a walk. But - your whole vacation is walking at WDW, so what better way to start the day?

Don't forget Earl of Sandwich is also open for breakfast:surfweb:

Thanks! I did suggest the refill mug thing for coffee. Are they the $10 mugs still? He, with a cup of joe costing around $2 he could get a cup in the morning and at night and make the mug purchase totally worthwhile.

Is that walk to DTD ok after dark? We're thinking of eating at HOB, which from what you're saying, will be quite a walk from the Grandstand area. Maybe I should change my request to Congress Park......

Actually, the HOB is on the westside so the Grandstand is closest to the westside path. Congress park is closest the the marketplace pathway that comes out right at rainforest cafe.

I'm not sure though if the path to the westside is lighted at night.

We thought it pretty safe. Either direction. The WestSide path is lit all the way and the bridge you cross is lit. There is a short patch of trees you cross after the bridge (its the golf cart path) that is like a tunnel (maybe 100 feet) that is the darkest part of the path, but it is very close to the Carriage house walkway and the Valet stand so we've always felt safe and we take that path all the time to get to DisneyQuest with the boys and back after it closes.

You have to remember that DTD is split into the Westside and the Marketplace. What we love about SSR is that we are never far from either side no matter what section we stay in and that the path makes a big circle accessible from each side of the resort.:wizard:

Also depends where you are in Grandstand. If you're in the far buildings it's quite a walk to DD. I'm with the folks who recommend heading to Artists Palette instead -- which is still quite a hike from the room. I totally get the DD advantage if you're in Congress Park. From Grandstand, not so much.

SSR is beautiful but it's big -- way bigger than navigating OKW. I would take advantage of the buses whenever possible to save some walking around the resort.

We find the mugs pay for themselves after the 5th drink. Usually we fill up in the morning at the beginning of our walks, refill a couple hours later for breakfast or heading to the park, and then grab a refill when we return for an afternoon break. So by the 3rd day we're getting free drinks.

You'll have a much longer walk from Congress Park. Like a mile vs the 1/2 mile from Carriage House. The route seems long on the map, but it is actually very short. The bulk of it is along the West Side parking lot and lake -- a well-lit sidewalk path.

Just a different POV for me. I've traversed SSR a lot and the only place that felt remote was the Congress Park side of Paddocks. It helps that virtually every area is at most a .25 mile walk to the Carriage House. In comparison, OKW feels remote to me from everywhere except by the Hospitality House. Walking from Turtle Pond to HH was never ending. The walk from OKW to DTD is extreme. I won't be attempting that again. I can see why people use the busses and ferries for hopping. Doing that at SSR seems a monumental waste of time. YMMV though.

hi everyone, just wondering as im a little confused (doesnt take much:rotfl: ) we stayed at SSR grandstand last year and have requested this area again this year - when we walked to DTD which we did several times we walked passed main pool over the bridge through congress and along the pathway which although my DS complained about the 'long' walk it was a nice walk. However from reading the comments on here am i to believe there is a path the other way from grandstand straight to westside???? :yay:

is there only one drop off at DTD from SSR? or are there multiple stops? like one in DTD, and one on the west side?

thanks!

Yes there is a path to the WestSide behind the Carriage House.

Walk from the Grandstand Buildings towards the Carriage House. As you approach the Port Cochere (Where the Magical Express bus pickups and dropoff) take a right on the Golf course path. This will lead you behind the Carriage House. As you approach the bridge, you can split off to the left and you are at the boat dock. Travel over the bridge and stay Left to get to the Westside.

Thanks for all the info. I did not know there were 2 walking paths to DTD. We usually stay at BCV but DS wanted to try something new.
