Dissapointed with BCV

DrTomorrow, it's second hand, at best, to us. And I'd agree that an off the cuff answer is a problem, but a totally different problem. The point was the answer makes no sense and likely means the CM either had no clue or had been listening to other CMs speculate. No resort in their right mind would do an alarm test in the middle of the night if they had a choice. The answer to the alarm going off at 4 am has to be something else. Thus these are all likely episodes that could happen to any resort at any time, especially after two hurricanes. It's not like they singled out the OP or did things directly and purposefully that caused the issues, at least not that we know of. And while they may suggest the need for additional training, I find that true at all resorts including DVC and MS. And they are not necessarily an indication of bigger problems specific to BCV or it's staff.

One of the most powerful avenues for a dissatisfied customer is to avoid going back to a place of business that they have had a bad experience with. So please, if you have had a problem with the BCV or are scared because of what you read on this board, avoid going there and sell any points that you may own there. As for myself, I've been there for 3 visits (24 days) and will be going back next July. Like many others, I am in the market for more BCV points, if anyone really wants to sell.

Traveling into an area that had recently been hit or was expecting to be hit by a hurricane is extremely risky. I would think that the local people would have much more important issues to deal with instead of attending to visitor needs.

Happy stress free travels,

Very well put and I agree completely.

The difference with possible recourse for a BC guest as opposed to a BCV DVC member is that if BC guest charges their room to a credit card....they can dispute the poor service/and or conditions that they might encounter with their credit card provider if no reduction in charges and or credit is not given by the hotel. A DVC member staying on points has paid in advance and is pretty much stuck.

Folks who encounter what they perceive as problems can, as some have suggested kiddingly, and a few seriously, just choose to avoid the property entirely, especially if it is not one's home resort (that is the case with us). We are fine with just avoiding the resort, but the lack of quality showing up in the BCV infrastructure's construction and the much more than acceptable rudeness/aloofness/lack of knowledge that is found in some the CMs, this really should be addressed for the sake of all future guests, especially at a split-property that has the DVC name on it.

They finally got around to addressing the plumbing problems that plagued parts of the Boardwalk for such a long time so why not this?

Exactly!! We stayed GF Main Building (RPC)(cash). Great trip however some issues I observed there we have never experienced during our BCV trips or our recent AKL Concierge (cash) trip in between hurricanes. I especially echo Dean's comment

It really depends on your staff.

Newer resorts try to benefit from the latest technology to improve efficiency and lower operating costs. It takes time for a maintenance staff to get to know all the inner workings of the mechanical and electrical systems that support a particular resort.

It’s not unusual for only a few technicians to know a particular system inside and out. If one or two technicians leave for what ever reason, it takes time to retrain new employees. If they left for poor management reasons, the remaining staff may not be so helpful in the retraining process.

I’m not saying BCV has this problem. Maintenance supervisors are not made from the same mold. You have some that motivate and some that don’t.

No need, your kidding yourself enough for both of us. I knew people in WTC too. Outrage over 9/11 goes beyond NYC, regardless if missdirected.
:sad2:

Since this thread is about BCV, let me say we've had wonderful stays at BCV, but not happy to hear anyone else not having a good experience. Seems like there's been bad experiences reported for a while now.

Your right, a test at 4:00am doesn't make sense, just probably a poor cover up by a CM of something else. Good point about 2 hurricanes, I'm sure there have been many reprocussions mechanically as a result of such severe whether.

I just wanted to add that I just got back yesterday from BCV. Had a wonderful trip -- even though we were only in a studio ;) with two 2 year olds!

Our main complaint was only on the last morning - 6:30am and NO hot water for showers. It was crappy! I didn't have time to even tell the front desk because we were late for our plane.

Water pressure was great, I was expecting problems because of previous posts.

Oh, and yes, there were power outage tests run at 2:30am, which the manager of the hotel left a message on our voicemail regarding earlier that day. I didn't notice a peep from our fire detector, and for that matter, neither did anybody in our room.

Maybe the OP didn't check their messages on their phone regarding the power outages?

Sherri :)
