Dissapointed with BCV

Did you have water in the shower? Or just not in the sink? Cause if I had to go without a shower I would be pretty irritable.

Tests can be done during the day.

I personally like BCV despite the complaints it gets, but I have to have my shower!

This reminds me of our honeymoon at DLP. We were staying at Newport and we had no hot water! I had to take cold showers! They acted put out we were upset. Never once apologized or offered to do anything to compensate.

It's OK to post problems. I appreciate everyone's feedback. I think it just needs to be put in perspective sometimes. A minor repair can be taken in stride. Sandie

I am staying at the BCV for the very 1st time in Nov. I loved VWL and BWV and thought it would be a nice change to stay at the BCV and the kids will LOVE the stormalong bay...But i am getting very skepitcal now...maybe i should have stick with the BWV instead, which that was my original ressies at 11 mos and then switched to BCV at 7 mos....
I can only hope for the best....::yes::

Dizzy4Disney--I don't think anyone meant to ridicule you. I thought Knwviking's post was so creative that it lightened the mood of this thread.

I am sorry that you experienced problems but I agree with the other posters that you need to tell the manager now of any problems you are experiencing and not wait until you get home. If you wait, how will you know how quickly they fix them (or not). Problems can happen anywhere but the true test is how quickly they are resolved.

I also know that I wouldn't stay at any "dump" that cost as much as BCV just because my kids wanted to swim at SAB. I'm sorry you feel you have to.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

If you didn't know this would happen you've not been reading threads on this board much. BCV is a very touchy subject. If you're posting complaints here, you better

1. be writing to DVC about them, too, because that will be constructive and not just whining.

2. Make some positive comments.

Personally, I would stay at BCV again and not worry in the least. We had a great time there.

PS I have no stake in BCV as I own at OKW.

"But I am getting pretty skeptical now"l

Don't! I have had three stays at the BCV for a total of 30 days with NO real problems. I did get worried when I read someone elses negative feedback, but the reality of it was...our vacations there were fine.

Wishing you a great time. Sandie

Dizzy4Dizney:

A few days ago I received this memo from the BCV Resort Manger. Perhaps it explains some of the things you are seeing:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you know, a number of storms have recently passed through the Walt Disney World resort area causing minor damage and inconvenience to resort and theme park guests. In an effort to deal with the aftermath of these storms, and in keeping with our dedication to minimize Disney Vacation Club member costs, Disney's Beach Club Villas recently instituted the following policy changes:

- Effective immediately, all resort power will be shut down daily between the hours of 2 - 5am. Extensive surveys have shown that guests are typically sleeping during this period, and it was deemed unnecessary to waste electricity for things like alarm clocks, night lights and emergency exit signs.

- In the interest of conserving our water supplies, hot and cold running water will be made available to villas on a rotating schedule. Details of the schedule are still being finalized, and will be published shortly on the DVC Member Website.

- Recent surveys have shown that nearly 90% of guests at the Beach Club Villas never use the refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, or clothes washer / dryer while staying in their unit. Functioning appliances will therefore be rotated to guest rooms on an as-needed basis. Please contact housekeeping if you would like functional appliances delivered to your guest room.

- Guest room amenities such as clean sheets and towels, soap, toilet paper and light bulbs will be available on an as-needed basis. Please contact housekeeping if you require any of these items during your stay.

Again I would like to stress that these changes are being implemented based upon member feedback received and management's commitment to providing a cost-effective resort for owners at the Disney's Beach Club Villas. Independent measures of Housekeeping quality at Disney's Beach Club Villas have consistently ranked us one of the top 206 resorts in the State of Florida. We are quite pleased with this ranking and see little room for improvement among our housekeeping staff.

We are confident that even those who may be uncomfortable with these recent changes will continue to enjoy Disney's Beach Club Villas for it's wonderful Stormalong Bay pool complex and proximity to Disney's Epcot theme park.

As always, your feedback regarding the resort is welcome. Please forward comments to: not_gonna_read_it@beachclubvillas.com

Thank you, and have a Magical Day!

Manager,
Disney's Beach Club Villas

Thanks for the update tjk. Glad to see some of my survey reply suggestions were implemented. I don't mind ticking off a few of our overly pickey guests as long as our maintenence fees go down a nickle.

Well, thanks, tjkraz; that does explain quite a bit. At least it's good to know that DVC - and BCV managment - are aware of the problems and taking steps to minimize costs.

I can only hope that they implement these policy changes at SSR ....

Tjkraz ---thanks for the "official" update from BCV's ! Everything sounds perfectly logical to me ! LOL ;)

That is an unfortunate combination of events. We have been fortunate/lucky and avoided these types of events on our trips to BCV............That BCV Manager should be fired! ;)

My 2 cents:

If I based my lodging decisions on one experience then I would never stay at OKW again. It was poorly maintained and the bathroom was in need of repairs and/or remodeling. So far my BCV experiences have been very good and I've made reservations for two more trips in the next 6 months. Yes that is my home resort and I love it but I would definitely give OKW another chance (or two). I do believe in making legitimate complaints but I have never seen so many naysayers as there are on these boards sometimes. People, lighten up and enjoy your vacations!!

TK, that was very interesting, thanks for posting that. Wish I had seen it before all my troubles here. We do like it here, we just had a few little "problems" (yes there was no water at all in any of the sinks, toilet or shower). At least we're not alone with little
problems. We've never experienced ANY problems at any other resorts before, included BCV so I guess it's just bad luck. Well, we had good luck with the weather and the trip was a BLAST as usual!

Can't wait to be back at WDW in 3 months!

That's wonderful that in spite of everything your trip was a blast!

My prayers are with the residents of Florida who have lost everything. The whole state seems to be under a cloud. When I see how much damage the remnants of these hurricanes are causing here in NY I shutter to think.....

There does seem to be an issue with the management at BCV. Perhaps training or mentorship is warranted.

Very well said and you did not even have to impersonate someone to make a point.

And I'm really disappointed to see that there are so many resort apologists. Broken drawer handles and burnt-out light bulbs are one thing.

The issues that Dizzy4Dizney mentioned are borderline ridiculous. Loss of water on two separate occasions? Yes, you can question the hurricane's possible impact, but one of the instances was fixed by maintenance coming into the room! Doesn't sound like a resort-wide problem.

Fire alarms in the middle of the night and the front desk is telling people it's a test? Someone here questioned whether that was just a guess on the CM's part. I gotta tell you, if I hear fire alarms in the middle of the night, the person telling me that it's "a test" had better know what he/she is talking about.

I'm not advocating people changing their travel plans based upon isolated reports. But geez, is it really necessary to berate the poster and minimize what are obviously valid concerns?

Those who want to turn a blind eye to valid concerns are wrong to imply that others should do the same.

What type of job do you have that problems never ever occur? My point is stuff happens, things break down. It is not always due to neglect or the fault of management.

If something occurs as occurred to the OP while I am on vacation and they fix it as they did for the OP then I am a satisfied customer. I just get the impression some of you expect things to never happen while you are on vacation, including hurricanes.

Once while we were on vacation at Disney during a very hot July, lightening struck our building and the air went out for 24 hours. Yes it was uncomfortable and some were pitching a fit. Well you know no one at Disney made it happen and they were working as hard as they could to fix it. They had to wait for parts.

I just could not go through life getting upset over things beyond my control and people making an effort to do the best they can.

If I truely believed that Disney and the people that work for them were not trying their best, then I would not stay there.

The difference is one's opinion of a valid concern. Mine is that when a problem occurs the problem was not taken care of. As long as they fix it, then I do not have any concern. I find it unrealistic to think things never break or happen. My opinion, obviously you disagree.

In many trips to Disney things have happened, things have broken, all were fixed. I was pleased. I was never upset it happened.

I agree. But a distinction does need to be drawn.

A resort getting struck by lightning is obviously unforseen and impossible to plan for. Inconvenient? Yes. Unpleasant? Yes. Inexcusable? Of course not.

Does a resort conducting tests on its electrical system at 4am sound like "stuff happening"?

Does a guest walking into their room to find no running water or broken appliances or holes in the wall sound reasonable? To me it sounds like a housekeeping staff that either didn't discover the problem, didn't report the problem or didn't correct the problem. All of these actions are correctable, but first one needs to recognize that a shortfall exists. Otherwise we simply continue to make excuses for poor behavior.
