Disneytime Sweepstakes open to Canadians

Why are you getting on Disney's case about this? It is not something Disney does to piss of Quebecers. Send your emails where it belongs- to your provincial government (it's because of their ridiculous exclusion laws.)

You obviously don't live in Quebec so why should you care if or if I don't get on Disney's case? It clearly doesn't affect you so why are you getting all worked up about it?

As I said in my email I understand they have strange regulations, but I was dissapointed that Disney always disallows Quebec residents and doesn't appear to make any efforts too, especially a huge company like Disney. (Like I can understand's Joe's Car Warehouse not having the resources to do all the work necessary, but IMO Disney does) I have seen many contest for newer companies where they do not allow Quebec residents to enter at first, but then after a year or two they do.

And it's not that we can not have contest. It's that there are extra rules and forms to fill out. (in essence to protect the consummer), so most times companies do not want to do the extra work, and I believe there is a slight cost as well. (not 100% sure of that)

Maybe my summary of the email came out more mean than I actually wrote, but my email was not rude or "getting on Disney's case" as you put it.

Quite frankly I don't give a rat's .... if Quebecers can participate in the sweepstakes or not. You're right, it doesn't affect me personally. And I am not in the slightest 'worked up'. But since you asked- this is an open discussion board. People are free to comment on any post with their own opinions. No where does the Disboard policies state that ONLY Quebec residents are allowed to comment on a post that mentions 'la belle province'. If you disagree with this, then perhaps you should consider your own website that restricts access to les Quebequois.

But I wonder why you still persist in blaming Disney for this instead of your provincial government. They are the ones who enacted these restrictive laws. Why on earth should Disney spend money and a lot of time for one very small and probably (from their standpoint) financially insignificant area of the contintent? They don't need to bend over backwards trying to work around these restrictive laws. Like a lot of other corporations who see no or marginal profit in it, they simply go elsewhere. If you have a problem with not being eligible- look to the source of the problem. It's not Disney.

I was going to write a response, but I did not see a point. The world needs more love these days, and it's just not worth it.

You clearly have your views on Quebec, and so be it. I will respect them even if I do not agree with them.

Here's the answer why quebec is not in ...

The reason why residents of Quebec are not eligible to enter many Canada sweepstakes is not because the sponsors don't want to advertise in Quebec, and it's nothing personal against any of the residents of that fine province. Rather, many sweepstakes are void in Quebec because the sponsors must follow a stringent set of rules set out by the Quebec government.

For example, in order for sponsor to skip the "void in Quebec" restriction, Quebec sweepstakes law requires that the sponsors must do some or all of the following things:

  1. Register the sweepstakes rules and all advertisements used to promote the contest with the Quebec government at least 30 days ahead of the sweepstake's launch.
  2. Pay a fee of up to 10% of the sweepstake's value, depending on who is allowed to enter.
  3. Agree to allow the government of Quebec to mediate any lawsuits arising from the contest.
  4. Follow strict guidelines about the contents of the sweepstakes rules.
  5. Allow the Quebec government to determine if the sweepstake may be changed or canceled once it has started.
  6. File a written report after the contest has concluded, attesting that the prizes have been delivered or attempted to be delivered.

Now lets end this line of discussion and move on more love ... or disney! :hippie:

Wow. I wondered why so many contests excluded Quebec. I knew their laws regarding contests were different, but did not know the difference. I now see why companies exclude Quebec. I don't feel that is fair but only if people start protesting will the government even look at changing their laws.

It's minus 26 in Ottawa tonight. I need to win!! Entered day 2 - how about all of you?

Now I understand why I am getting e-mails for hotel deals in Ottawa! Yikes!

I know how you feel. Alot of companies such as Carnival Cruise Lines (which is my second favourite vacation in the world) doesn't allow Canadian's to enter at all (yet their other owned companies such as Princess Cruises do) and the only restriction that I am aware of for the rest of Canada (beside Quebec) is they must include a skill testing question - such as 3 x 6 + (2+2) how hard is that for a company to include?!?!? But after reading the requirements for Quebec I totally understand why most companies exclude that province! You really do need to complain to your gov't/members of parliament.

Québec will never go back against their laws, because it makes them rich. It makes them have some sort of monopole of lotteries. Loto-Québec can sell lotteries everywhere in Canada, but the ROC can't sell them here.

Loto-Québec is one of our biggest milk cow here.

Still sucks. But if you watch Disney Junior, they very often have Disney World sweeptakes.

Disney isn't disallowing anybody, it's Quebec provincial law that disallows/discourages vendors offering contests so you may contact Disney all you like but you're barking up the wrong tree. Direct your disappointment to the lawmakers in Quebec.

It's like myself, I live in BC and am a DVC owner however my guide and DVC cannot legally send me any promotions, allow me to purchase more points, participate in DVC contests etc from home because my province does not allow DVC to, they are not licensed in BC. My disappointment goes toward my province and not DVC, they are following the law.
