DisneyStore - Make Your Own Messenger Bag?

Got mine from UPS today ... DH's inside pocket was already ripped. The problem is the inside pocket that velcros shut. When you pull apart the velcro the pocket lining pulls away from the body of the bag.

I packed my bag. I put maps and a puzzle book in that pocket. It won't velcro because of the height of the books. I'm thinking that if I don't use the velcro it might be OK. I'm thinking about removing the velcro and it would be easy to machine stitch the lining back to the body of the bag if it does occur.

I'm wondering if I should even replace DH's bag. He was using his as a school bag which would receive a lot more wear than mine. I was using mine as a carry-on type bag for car trips and next year's plane ride. With light use and not using the velcro, I hope the bag will hold up better ... it's so cute!

I got ours today and I was thrilled with how cute they are but they are a lot bigger than I expected. The one I got for my DD is too big for her to carry in the parks but she can use it for something else.

Oooh, can't wait to see the back pack pictures tomorrow. I'm just sure this is going to be perfect, esp. given the new stroller prices. We were going to get one stroller for when DD's legs give out (and for storing water, snacks, etc.) but we are going to try the pack mule approach instead given the new pricing.

Here's also hoping for a code...can't pay $42!!

I just got one of mine out and I can see what you are saying. I will just have to be careful not to just rip the velcro apart or it will totally rip from the lining. Thanks for pointing this out.

The inside pockets are ripping and coming apart, not the bag itself. :)
Oh, geez. Are they glued? Are they velcroed to something not well attached?

I'm so sick of Disney and their cheapo glued/velcroed crap that falls apart. And that glue gets stuff all sticky when it melts, too, especially in the hot, humid weather. :furious: I've never returned anything to Disney and rarely return anything at all. But I swear if these bags just fall apart that they're going back. Sick and tired of buying stuff that breaks from Disney.

I just ordered 2 of these bags (thanks to this thread! :) ) - one for me, one for a friend. They are in PA, making their way to Ohio.

They are stitched on. Both pieces are stitched. One piece is on the fabric that divides the bag. The other piece is stitched onto the lining, but the lining is not stitched to the actual bag. The bottom of the lining is stitched to the bottom of the bag, but the sides aren't. So the piece that is on the lining is not secured to anything. I can see it ripping apart if you just quickly pull the velcro apart like you would normally do with velcro because you are pulling at a piece that is not very secure.

Does that make sense? :)

Grrrr. It makes total sense. And it isn't the first product of that sort Disney has sold. Thanks for the info! :)

Check everything you buy for glue, too. Especially if you plan to carry things around in it in the hot Florida sun.

I got our bags yesterday and warned my Mom about some of the quality issues people have been having ~ I told her to let me know if anything ripped, as we'd send it back and get a refund.

Here's hoping we won't have to, but I can definitely see that front velcro ripping off the bag.

I'm just hoping that the main, canvas shell of the bag stays in good condition. I figure I can always take the lining out, if it gets shredded. The bag is just so cute! What a shame it's not sturdy. :confused3

Received my bags yesterday, and I'm really pleased! I knew we wouldn't be using them in the parks, but on the plane, and they'll work out perfectly for us.

That being said, I did order the backpack for my DH to carry - no way he'd use a messenger type bag, and I liked the backpack. Like the pp, I don't need the changing pad, lol.

Here's a pic:

Inside I had:

seven ponchos
three changes of kids clothes in ziploc bags
sunscreen
moleskin
camera
straws
wet-ones
cell phone
three tupperware snack containers
*and room to spare*

There's also a holder for water bottles/sippy cups on each side of the backpack.

The velcro is simply stitched on, no glue. I think I'll get out my trusty seam ripper ...

I called Disney Shopping and they were great! It was worth the hastle to hear them say "Have a Magical Day"!

I have found that the quality of the Disney Shopping merchandise is 75/25 ... sometimes it's good and most of the time it's not, which is a shame because it's all so cute. It's a good thing I never pay full price for anything.

Twingle, the backpack is ADORABLE~!~!~ (don't tell your DH I said that, he might not wear it LOL)

Any chance you would post a picture of one of you wearing it so I can get a better idea of size? Is it more of a "mini" back pack, or a full size backpack? Will 16 oz water bottles fit nicely into the mesh bottle pockets, or will I be afraid they will fall out?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Chris

If anyone has been emailed a new code, please post it. There hasn't been a good one in DAYS. Wonder if it's because of the run on personalized items :lmao: I wish I had ordered the backpack when I ordered the messenger bags for my kids...would have had 25% off. I'm trying to wait for another 25% off code. Sheesh.

Sure - give me a bit though, because I have dial-up and it'll take me a while to upload the pic.

It is a full size backpack - I was actually surprised at how big it is. I have a 16 oz. Propel Water bottle and a 16 oz. Lipton tea bottle in the pockets right now, they won't fall out. The fit is a little snug, and the mesh comes up almost to the top of the bottles.

Pic coming soon!

Great! Thanks so much. Can't wait to see the pic. I think this backpack is perfect for our needs, from what you've said.

I have a question for the backpack people. Do you think you'll have lining issues with the backpack? Is there velcro on any lining that looks like it's not secure, etc.? I'm sort of leaning towards getting myself a backpack, but hate it when things fall apart.

The main part on ours didn't rip. It was the front part that came seperated from the bag.

I ordered my backpack today with the code "special" and it is for 25% off.

I received the larger of the messenger bags and use it for work. It is perfect.
:thumbsup2

Is the velcro used just to hold the inside of something shut? Is it something that HAS to be there? If it isn't maybe I will just take the velcro out. The only one I really planned on using at the parks was mine. The ones I got for the kids is mainly to carry books and snacks for the car ride down.

That said....my box is on a UPS truck out for delivery. Should be here in the next hour or so. :woohoo:

GGoofy1, does it look like the larger messenger bag will have the same issue as the smaller ones?

Thanks!

ALSO: I don't know if the velcro is necessary. The main compartment of the bag is divided into 2 sections with a bag-length pocket on the back wall (if this makes sense). The velcro is keeping that "pocket" closed. If you take out the velcro, which I will do, then you will have a three sections, with one being very thin. It's wide enough to hold 2-3 magazines. I put our road atlas and a magazine in there and can't use the velcro anyway because the magazines are in the way (if that made sense).
