Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

The outdoor seating looks nice. Has B&C been busy?
Beaches and Cream has been extremely busy at night. Ale and Compass and the A&C Lounge have been very busy at night, too. There aren't a lot of food options with Cape May, Crews Cup, the Yachtsman and Hurricane Hanna all closed.

We had a very good meal at Ale & Compass last night. :)

Last summer Ale & Compass was usually quiet at dinner time. I guess the lack of options really changes things. I hope some more Yacht & Beach stuff opens soon.
Glad to hear about your meal at A&C 😋

How's is the atmosphere with the Beach Club closed and reduced capacity? Is it like a ghost town?

Quiet, but not necessarily a ghost town. We’re here at the BCVs
and I should have been finishing up a 10K right now! The quietest area is the Beach Club main lobby, but it’s still staffed with CMs and Bell Services. All pools are active, along with the Marketplace. Weather has been perfect so far with a cool down coming this weekend. We’re here until next Wednesday, so any specific questions just let me know.
ETA Christmas decorations came down overnight.

Hey everyone! We're booking our first ever on site trip for November and looking heavily at BC/YC. There will be 5 of us: 2 adults, a 6 year old, 4 year old, and an infant. I have a deluxe studio room at BC and a garden view at YC saved currently. Right now, YC is about $100 more total for the stay.

Is there a big difference between the two rooms? I'm not super concerned with the view, that is just what is showing available right now. I'm mainly concerned about space. The girls can share a pull out couch or second bed and we are actually bringing a travel mini size pack n play for the baby. I just don't want to trip over each other or our stuff constantly.

I'd love any feedback!

:welcome: to this forum!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1, Post 15.

Please let us know if you have any questions as you plan for your trip.

:cool1:

What are the normal pool hours for January?
I seem to remember the pool closing last January around 8, then we would have to jump in the smaller pools.
I'm hoping they did not shorten the hours any more.... not much else to do.

I forgot to :welcome: you to the thread when I posted my response.

Do you have an upcoming trip booked?

:goodvibes

The market at Ale & Compass was open 7am-10pm the week leading up to Christmas. On our MK & AK days, we were on the bus before 7am. ☹ We started those mornings with cereal, fruit, cheese sticks and hard boiled eggs. We needed lunch early as we prefer a heavier protein breakfast. If you are heavy coffee drinkers, you can call the front desk for more coffee & cups without charge. I prefer half half (the market doesn’t sell it) over coffemate and the market just poured me some into a cup to keep in my fridge for my morning coffee.

Thanks for sharing your observations of the Marketplace and your tips for early morning nourishment.

:thumbsup2

I thought hurricane hannas was was open just no grill items.

Only the bar is open at Hurricane Hannas. The quick service counter and beverage area remain closed. You can order food from the servers that walk around the pool, but it is very limited. You can probably order food from the bartenders, too, but we never tried to do it.

The BC lobby is usually empty. There are CMs at the Bell Service and front desks. The BC marketplace has been pretty much empty every time we go there. At most we have seen only a few people eating outside at the tables or in the Solarium. The people staying in the villas must be ordering groceries and cooking their own food. ;)

....I gotta admit, I'm a bit jealous........I guess we were spoiled when we stayed at the BC last year and had THIS view:

What room number is this?

Add us to the list. We will be staying at the Beach club for the first time, June 3-12. We are very excited. I know things may change when Beach club finally opens, but does the Beach Club share buses in the morning with Yacht club?

We visited WDW over New Years week four years ago, and Facebook just reminded me how astonished I was at the cold that day...it was so cold that Disney was giving out *free* hot chocolate at the BC/YC bus stops. I guess they’ve figured out that investing in some patio heaters will be cheaper in the long run?

NYE 2016/2017, right? I'm looking back at photos and I remember that. It was a weird year. I remember we paid for the dessert party for Jingle Bell Jingle Bam on 12/29. It rained that night, and midway through the show we literally felt the cold front come in. We were in winter coats on 12/30.

I believe it was that trip - you literally got 1 or 2 days in the 80s, then all of a sudden you'd wake up and it'd be 50 degrees.

Yup, that’s the year. We got there on the 30th, so missed the nicer weather. Cold snap for Florida...DH still swam every day, though, at least on the days the pool was open. It was warmer there than at home. ;-)

I heard the poolside grill is closed, what about takeout at Beaches and Cream?
Are they doing pool activities for the kids along with nighttime movies?

Thanks!

I tend to rely on rideshare to get to rope drop but when I was there in November 2019 they did share buses and Yacht Club picked up and dropped off first.

You will love BC, I really enjoyed it!

First year we went - 2009... We actually took the train down from NY. I remember my grandma saying it was cold down there and we were all like "well she's always cold..." We stopped in Jacksonville on the way down and it was 80 degrees. Got to Coronado and it was overcast and 70. By the time we got into our room, unpacked, and went to dinner, it was 50 degrees. It didn't go above 50 the rest of the trip and was in the low 30s most nights. It was horrible. I mean.. it was Disney, so it was fine... but it was cold. And back then you couldn't run to Under Armor or Uniqlo and get some normal-priced layers,.. you had to get a Mickey sweatshirt for $60 and most warm clothes were sold out. Since then we pack layers.

But yeah that was a good year. That was the first year we started doing dinner at Yachtsman and just watching the fireworks from the boat launch. Much more relaxing.

The short answer to your question is that the morning buses might go direct to the park or might go to both YC and BC depending on the crowds waiting for the buses.

Our experience with the morning park buses from our October and recent January trips has been that there is a dedicated bus for MK that will pick up at only one of the resort bus stops and then go directly to the park. There is also what the bus driver called a pick up bus that will go to both resort bus stops to pick up the guests who didn't get on the first bus. We even had a pickup bus for AK that had picked up at BC first then picked us up at the YC. I asked the driver about the passengers who were already on the bus when it arrived at the YC and he was the one who told me about the pickup bus.

I can't remember if the AK bus picked up at both resorts in the morning, but I do remember that we were the only ones on the YC bus to AK at 8:30am on Wednesday morning. :)

We are at the Yacht Club now but leaving in about 1/2 hour. We went out to the Yacht Club beach to watch the Space-X launch. The skies were clear at the scheduled launch time of 8:28pm and we probably would have had a great view of it. Unfortunately, the launch was postponed for 45 minutes and by then there were low hanging clouds that blocked any view of the launch. :(

My husband was able to look into the big white box near the back of Hurricane Hannas and said that there was a concrete patch that the box was protecting. We assume that the construction that was done earlier included breaking up the concrete and now they repaired it.

We have really enjoyed this trip. Mask compliance was excellent, even better than it was when we were here in October. The parks were very crowded this week and we only stayed at most of them for a few hours. But we are annual passholders and a low key trip is our favorite way to do Disney. :)

It helped a lot to know what to expect. I was bothered by the fact that you couldn't see people's smiles when they wore masks. But we have become so used to mask wearing, especially since our state has mandated masks for months, that it seems natural to see everyone in a mask. And the CMs seem extra friendly to make up for the extra restrictions on guests. We will be back in March. :)

We will be staying at the Yacht Club from Feb 28th to March 5th, 2021. :)

The grill portion for Hurricane Hannah’s is closed. Takeout window for Beaches and Cream is closed. Grill items from beaches and cream are available “to go” from Marthas Vineyard after 4:00 as of now and beginning this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday beginning at noon.

Pooltime activities are currently daily from 2:30 - 7:30 PM. Nighttime movies are Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday @ 8:00 on the beach.
