Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

The agent actually told me most construction would be done in april....I realize still some on the DVC side. He actually put me on hold to call someone and verify.

The agent doesn't know what they're talking about. Copper Creek is not scheduled to open until July. Construction will not be done in April.

From the refurbishment page:

General Resort Refurbishments
Due to extensive refurbishment projects, Guests will very likely see and hear construction work in various areas throughout their stay. To minimize disruptions, we will attempt to limit work until after 9:00 a.m.
At this time, many popular areas will remained closed - including the Hidden Springs Pool (the leisure pool at Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge), marina and more. In addition, certain pathways, like our nature trail, will be unavailable, and surrounding views may be altered. Through July 17, 2017.

I'm also sure because Villas at Wilderness Lodge (now Boulder Ridge) is one of my home resorts. The announcement was made to DVC owners Copper Creek will open in July.

As long as you're ok with the construction I vote WL. Then you get the best of both worlds. MK area & Epcot area. The new Geyser Point bar & grill is really nice. Food & drinks are excellent.
Thanks Horselover.

Do you need a reservation for Geyser Point?

I have actually watched that young lady. She puts it so plainly I can see why from her perspective it can seem a little confusing to us guests. TBH I'm surprised they don't work the rooms in pairs all year round. It would speed up the servicing of the rooms and improve guest impressions of the resorts. Perhaps they need to hire some "leave reserves" to cover staff rest days and personal days and extra "seasonal" house keepers too to keep up with all the tasks needed to keep the place "ship shape and Bristol fashion" as my great grandad used to say;)

Nothing puts me off a resort like dirty plates cups and cutlery and half eaten food on trays in the halls. Surely room service should pop back at a designated time to collect that mess. That unappealing sight is unsanitary. It doesn't happen in the U.K. as far as I know, maybe it's a cultural thing. We were always taught to eat our food in the restaurants or if consuming in room dining food to call the dining team back to collect those used items once we are done and leave them on a table or trolley.

I completely see how busy the housekeepers can be and how little break time they can take during a shift. I can make allowances for that. It can't be easy to sort out all the tasks involved when the resorts seem to run at between 80 and 90 percent full all year around. Jobs like deep cleaning the carpets must become a challenge. Actually not that sure if the last one is up to house keeping or the maintainance teams, oh well you know what I mean. As for the rest of their work I for one am thankful of the fab work they do keeping the rooms habitable and well stocked.

Okay I've rambled on enough... back to the regular program with the ladies in the know:)
I'm holding out hope this is Disney cutting back and if they get enough complaints they'll fix it. Hiring more housekeepers would solve those Sunday issues, there is zero excuse for that considering they know Sundays are problematic. Also, they've been in business long enough to know how to plan out housekeeping to anticipate X % of rooms will be trashed each day and go from there when hiring the appropriate amount of staff. Sounding more and more like Disney needs to get off the dime to me! Hmm... what's the next hit movie they have coming up? Pirates in May? Make lots of money and send some over the parks and resorts division maties pirate:!

Thanks Horselover.

You don't. It's the new quick service/bar down where the beach used to be. It will serve as the primary quick service while Roaring Fork is being refurbished. The bar is open seating & the views of the lake are lovely. I really enjoyed my afternoon there. Highly recommend the BBQ brisket dip!

Input from longtime YC and BC lovers please.... right now we are booked May 9-16 at YC. BUT, we really want to come down on the weekend. Booked Sunday airfare and getting in really late Sunday. Haven't figured out Sunday night but know for certain on property starting Monday AM.

Monday night there is no availability at either YC or BC so I booked one night at French Quarter - never stay there but they have a really fun splash pad for DS and of course the boat downtown. However, we've always wanted to try the WL...For some reason I can get a great pass holder rate on WL for TWO night, not one.

Monday and Tuesday morning we will be at MK for certain. Afternoons are spent at the resort and then who knows for the evenings. Wednesday morning is Epcot and we would be at SAB pool that afternoon for certain.

Stick with one night POFQ or 2 night WL and one less at YC?

Any input or suggestions welcome. Thinking if we stayed at WL in the evenings we could boat to another resort, grab dinner, walk around, take the monorail (DS is obsessed) and maybe head into MK one or both evenings.

I too would go for WL for the two nights. It really is a nice resort. It was our go to when my kids were young until their teens, then we switched to YBC. The boat to MK is so convienient. And the food at WL is good as well. For fun Whispering Canyon. For signature dining, Artist Point, one of THE best in all of WDW imo. I wouldn't frustrate myself with two resorts before your perm stay at YBC.
My husband and I are at YC CL, same dates as you May 9-16, but we fly in and land at 8 am the 9th. I expect to be at MK before lunch!!

What's the storage situation in a standard BC room? Can large suitcases fit under the beds? What kind of dresser drawer space is available?

Dee, I noticed on Post 16 "Photos, Videos, Trip Reports" under the section labeled "Videos" the top 2 aren't working. First video is now marked private on Youtube and the second link has a bunch of asterisks in the website name. (Other links all work though!)

Hello! Thank you to everyone who has posted pictures of the refurbished rooms! I am going in mid April and an hoping for a refurbished room but also need a room with 2 queens and the daybed. Do all the refurbished rooms have daybeds? Also, should I ask for a room on the 3rd or 4th floor? Where are they with the renovations? Awesome information on this website!!!

We love both the Wilderness Lodge and the BC/YC. In fact we'll be at the WL next week and the BC in May. The WL is a great place to stay. The boat to Magic Kingdom is one of the best things about it. You can also walk to Fort Wilderness to explore. There is also a resort boat that travels between WL, FW and the Contemporary. It is a nice way to get to the monorail for a little resort hopping.

All of the restaurants are open during construction except Roaring Forks. The south wing of the resort is being turned into DVC units. They are also building a new zero entry pool by the villas but it won't be open for a while.

Room 5199

And thanks @ohMom for posting all your photos. Now I don't have to upload mine! Our pictures were pretty similar. I was in 5199.

Standard view. Wow look at that view of the pool!

2 Queens.

Daybed - yes

Tub shower combo.

I was hoping for just a shower. I will say be careful with the new shower doors. If you don't close them just right they leak onto the floor. Make sure to put the bath mat down in the middle where the two doors meet.

I haven't stayed at either WL or POFQ, so I can't give you any actual feedback based on those resorts. I'm glad others have piped in with their thoughts.

I think I would go with WL for the location/convenience to MK. And to have a couple of days to be in the resort before switching to the YC seems a little less chaotic.

I don't think there is any room under the bed for suitcases in the BC rooms.

Check out this link from Post 8- shows the cabinet with the drawers pulled out. There is also a bureau next to the closet, although I don't know if that is in every BC room. I seem to remember that the furniture in some of the resort rooms varied based on the space available. I also don't have a picture of the closet following the renovation, so if anyone has one they can post, that would be great!

Oh, pooh!

Thanks for the heads up on these.

The "Happy" video by ChipnDaleRule was really cute- could be an issue with the use of the music or maybe the person who posted it made it private as the message indicates.

The other link must have been from one of the sites/travel agencies not permitted to post here on the DIS.

:headache:

Has it been talked about here that YC is getting a new quick service area?

Thanks for sharing the news with us. Always better to get more info and reminders. Can't wait to see what it is like when it opens- we are hearing May for an opening date.

:welcome: to this thread and posting on the DIS.

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1. Is your reservation at the Yacht Club?

:cool1:

We rely on reports from guests about the progress of the renovations because the responses we get from both phone reservation CMs and on resort CMs vary widely from "The renovations should be done by April" to "Construction will be taking place until the end of the year" I think it will be at least the fall before the refurb project is complete.

As far as I know, the refurbished rooms on the 5th floor- club level are open for stays, but I haven't heard of refurbished rooms on other floors (maybe just one or two model rooms) where guests can stay at this point in time. If you would like to request a refurbished room, you should include that in a room request called into Disney's Central Reservations Office (or your travel agent needs to do that if you booked that way) rather than specifying a floor.

I haven't heard whether all renovated rooms will have daybeds, but from what I understand, the rooms at the resort are different sizes, so some can accommodate a daybed and some can't.

What is the makeup of your travel group? How many guests and are all over age 3? If you have a party of 5, with everyone over age 3, you will have priority for a room with a daybed. Otherwise, you need to make that a request.

"Room with daybed, please. Renovated room, if possible"

::yes::

These were taken October 2016 BC. I only took a photo of half the closet- was showing off my luggage! This was room 2600. Hope it helps at least a little.
