Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Well sadly here's the response I got regarding occupancy changes to the BCV studios. :(.

We contact DVC Member Services and they are telling us that we are unable to add a 5th person until the refurbishment is complete. They didn't have an end date for it, but we are thinking by the first of the year. Most of the 5 beds have been added, they are just not adjusting new reservations until it's complete! I'm so sorry!

We had a fantastic stay at the YC for our Sept/Oct trip. Here is the view from our garden view room, #3038.

We did have one little snafu at the very end of the trip though. We were waiting for DME to take us to the airport, and while waiting, a worker came up and put white boards over the DME bus stop sign to cover them up. My mom and I commented that it was odd, but they must be moving the stop soon for the construction. Little did we know that the second those boards went up, the bus stop was moved! A few minutes earlier we had asked the cast member if that was the stop and he said it was. Fortunately I noticed the DME bus pull in and turn in front of the convention center, so my mom and I ended up running with all our luggage over that way to catch the bus. The driver was awesome though and admitted they had only told her about 10 minutes prior that the stop was moving, so she had planned on waiting just in case something like this happened!
We saw that they had moved the YC DME bus stop over to the convention center and I thought that it was a really far spot for it, especially if you are bringing a lot of luggage on the bus.

I'm going to try an e-mail and see what I get for a response. This doesn't seem right based on where I thought the reno's were and the chat I had online the other day. We'll be checking in next Wed. to a studio and then again for marathon weekend so I can get a first hand look at what's going on. Not that I need the 5th person in our room but I do share your frustration on the inconsistency of the responses.

After much confusion caused by my employers, my original reservation for 2 weeks BC in October 17, changed first of all to to 3 weeks AKL in June 17 but has now changed again, FINALLY, to 2 weeks BC arriving 26th May 2017. I hope to book a 3rd week at another resort shortly.

We have a Garden view room and our main request is for a full balcony. However, I wonder if anyone has any tips for bed requests ? We have stayed at BC before when there were only 3 of us, DD will be 15 next year. DS will have just turned 2 and its a whole new experience for us taking a baby/toddler. Initially I just assumed that DS would be in one of the 2 queens with one of us. However, would it be wise to also request a daybed or crib for DS ? We have no doubt had a daybed in our room before but never had cause to use it ( other than an extended area for DW and DD to leave their clothes  )

Any tips are appreciated.

I would request the daybed. There are a lot of garden view rooms that have both a full balcony and a daybed on the side of the resort that faces Epcot. The room that we had on the second floor had both a daybed and a full balcony and it was very roomy.

You can always request a crib when you arrive.

HI everyone!

I haven't been around for a while but I'm back now. Got annual passes for my DD and I during our August visit at BWV. Staying at BC for the Wine and Dine Half, BCV for MLK weekend and a split stay in March at BLT/BCV. Going to catch up now on changes etc

Thank you. Our rental place also said they were going to keep asking some questions since there's that inconsistency, so maybe there's still a shot. :)

Ok I slacked off on my live updates - I left off Tuesday evening before going to AK for the evening. We saw the safari at dusk. We saw a lot of animals and had an informative safari guide . You could still see with out artificial lighting so not sure what later times would see ( we were like 6:30)

Wed. Breakfast at Captains Grill. It was good not great but good. The eggs tasted funny to me ? Then on to the studios. Rock n roller coaster single rider and fp. Tower of terror and star tours. Saw the dr strange preview. This caused us to just miss Indiana Jones . We didn't want to wait until 3 ( 12:15 was show we missed - closed entry as we walked up at 12:13) so we headed to EPCOT for lunch. Starting about 12:30 until later in afternoon it sprinkled on and off until late afternoon. Never enough to stop or even need an umbrella. After another tour of the world showcase , we headed to storm along bay . DH first time so I made him go down the slide. Then to Disney Springs for a little shopping , drinking and eating. First time with all the new shops open . Had a drink at Jock
Lindsey's hangar. Cool atmosphere and great service. Dinner was at Art Smiths Homecoming - amazing ! Highly recommend eating here - especially if you like southern food . But no the day is not over , my birthday was the next day and it was evening EMH at MK. I wanted to be at MK at midnight so I could be there on the big day . DH wanted a little rest so headed back to BC

Not sure what happened but my keyboard locked up - so after a rest headed to MK about 10:30 pm . Lines were still long so watched monsters laugh floor and rode the tta. Took a pic with castle in background at midnight . Rode space mountain one last time. Now , if I was by myself or with my ds I would have stayed until 2 am but DH had told me before we left he would not be doing that . We were driving home
the next day and I did get to be there at midnight so we left about 12:45.

Next morning , ugh , last day and only a short park day before hitting the road - I just had fp for r n r and star tours. My favorite is rock n roller so I got to start my birthday with two rides there ( one fp one single rider) . Ended the trip with star tours before sadly the last boat trip back to BC.

Overall, we had a great time and I continue to love the EPCOT area resorts . Even with the crowds we got a lot done . I did scale back what I would normally do as DH doesn't have the same love for Disney I have but did hit the highlights. I was hoping this adults only - somewhat relaxed pace would encourage him to join me on more trips but one of his last comments was - the next time I will come is when we have grandkids - our kids are in college so that probably means not any time soon. But , he does know I want to go before that ! ( the trips listed below are mostly my parents and kids without DH- his last trip was 2007 )

Sounds like a good time. My honey doesn't do Disney (in all honesty he doesn't do vacation unless there is diving) so I either go solo or with my grown son when he can get off. Solo is fun and you might get addicted, YC is perfect for that by the way.

I am one that normally does not do online check in. I like to check in with a real person. I say at the current time with all the staff cuts, you should absolutely use online check in. I wish we had.

We just got back from YC last Sunday. We were there from 10/1- 10/9. It was not our first stay at YC, or in YC CL. We have also stayed at BC. For the first time, while we LOVE YC and still had a fantastic stay and would pick it again in an instant, we did feel like it was understaffed in areas and really felt the cut backs. Actually, it was not just at YC--- there were definitely some substantial staffing cuts in several areas around WDW and also things were not being as well taken care of as we were used to (we went to DL this summer and the parks were significantly cleaner than WDW as a whole this year which was surprising to me). Although people have been complaining about cut backs for years-- we have been every year for the last 9 years and last year was the first year we noticed or felt the cuts and reductions at all- and this year we really felt and noticed it in several areas. It was a definite shift. As far as YC, about every time we passed the front desk, it looked like the lines were long (maybe it was just our timing in passing by- but we really did notice it and we have not in the past). We were staying CL this trip. In the past, we would be greeted when we got off ME and then escorted to the CL floor where you check in for CL. They have eliminated all the greeters. For CL, you are supposed to check in upstairs; however, your band has to work to access that floor. When we arrived, we weren't sure what to do, since there was no greeter or escort and we knew our check in would be upstairs. We asked at bell services whether our bands would work to go up there to check in, or whether we needed to go to the front desk. We were told we had to go to the front desk (although I have since heard that most times the bands should work). The line was long and we had to stand in it until we got to the front, but then they did not check us in there, rather they had to get someone to escort us to the 5th floor to actually check in. We wound up having someone that was working the front desk actually leave their post and take us upstairs (which made me feel sorry for the people behind us in line). Later that week, we actually saw the Captain/Yachtsman himself bringing people up to check in. Also, I don't know if the concierge desk in the lobby was ever open, but it did not appear to be much, if at all, during our stay. DD always wants to look at their pin book and the lobby concierge desk had signs up saying closed every time she wanted to go check on it. We were directed to the front desk for any downstairs concierge service (we just went back upstairs to CL). but it did not look like they had any separate concierge line, it looked like you just had to stand in the regular line (we did not try it- so I can't verify that). We also noticed the CL lounge appeared to be understaffed. The CMs working it were working as hard and fast as they could, but they could not keep up (this was before Hurricane Matthew). More than once, there were no plates available and we had to use bowls and twice there were no forks available. Also, the tables all over the lounge had dishes left behind that were not being picked up. More than once we moved someone's old dishes off of a table to another table that already had dishes so that we would have a clear table where we could sit. Again, the staff that was there was really working hard and trying to get everything done- they just could not keep up. My 10 year old DD (whose goal in life is to become an imagineer and then the CEO of Disney- she doesn't think small) kept saying--- "When I am CEO of Disney, I'm going to fix these understaffing issues". I can't tell you how many times during the week I heard "When I am CEO of Disney..." Lets just say--- she is going to make sure things with faded paint are going to be spruced up; that the restrooms are not filthy, that broken doors and other broken items are repaired, that removed character meet and greets are returned and that villain meet and greets are returned to the Halloween party, that resort are properly staffed, etc. I think she is making a list.

While I didn't stay club level I did notice the lack of someone greeting me by name when I arrived in September. Otherwise, I didn't notice any of the problems you had. I had to go to the concierge desk one afternoon because for the first time ever, I actually left my MB in my room when I went down to the gift shop to pick up my packages. Thankfully I did have my ID in my pants pockets since I hadn't removed it from earlier. Anyway, there were two CMs there and no line. Had the nicest person help me and we both got a good laugh out of it. When I got there, I had done on line check in but I was doing a split stay and got there around 7:30 so obviously my room wasn't ready. There was no line at the front desk and about 3 CMS working. My CM was very helpful and tried to find something available that early but since I had requested a king bed there wasn't. I told her it wasn't a big deal I was just solo so a king bed made sense but she insisted I should get what I requested. I think timing might be the issue there. When I did get my room I was upgraded to a garden/water view. I purposely looked at the bathrooms in the parks because of all the complaints and it was kind of hit and miss. In some cases they were pretty clean in others there were obviously very dirty ladies in there before me. There was always a CM in there working every time though.

Am I the only one who is creeped out by Floridian grass?? I just can't bring myself to walk through it :crazy2:
Floridian grass is so rough I can't walk on it barefoot it would cut me to ribbons! Even with trainers in walking across that type of grass is a challenge, it's so darned sharp.

Well, our 4 days sure went fast. Was not our best vacation, but I think that was because of getting ready for Matthew, working the weekend, and then starting our stay the next day. Usually after working the weekend, I have a ton of energy, just not this time.

The room was fine. The automatic door for the handicapped room did not work- the door did not stay open and the inside button did not work either. I had our doorstop so it was no problem, and we let the front desk know when we checked out this morning so they can fix it before next person checks in.

I cannot say enough about the friendliness of everyone at BC - staff and guests. It is very nice to smile and say hi and have both returned.

@DLo - we also had breakfast Wednesday 9:30) at Captain's Grill. I didn't have the plain eggs, but I enjoyed everything except the frittata with the jalapeño cheese. Pop loved the biscuits and gravy. Would go back in a heartbeat. Only tried it because someone one the thread recommended it- Thanks!

The Star Wars dessert party was fun, although Pop complained at the time. I cheated during the party (& F&W) by buying a tray at EPCOT. When you're running for 3
people, it saved making several trips. I bought a larger one than the F&W tray so
It held plenty.IMG_8882.JPG
@natebenma - I'm sorry we left before having a chance to meet you. I hope you have a safe trip and a magical anniversary. If you want to try to meet some day before Wednesday (work again), I can try to come some afternoon for an hour or so. PM me and I'll see what works between dr appts.

I was going to go to SAB and have a Sunken Treasure, but fell asleep instead. Guess I needed it.

To all who make this a fun and informative thread- Thanks! Can't wait to come back!

Wed. Breakfast at Captains Grill. It was good not great but good. The eggs tasted funny to me ?
We ate at Captain's Grill during our trip earlier this month and thought the scrambled eggs on the buffet tasted a little funny, too. I ordered custom made scrambled eggs for breakfast on an earlier trip and they tasted much better. than the ones on the buffet
