Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Sitting at Nomad Lounge right now and overheard something from the table next to us. A couple higher ups with Disney and Yacht Club was mentioned. Unfortunately i didn't overhear details but something was said about work and or expansion starting at Yacht Club was mentioned. Really sounded like they were talking expansion. And talk was of it starting in August, whatever it was. Any ideas what was being discussed?

FYI, in case it wasn't reported yet, Flying Fish ADRs open tomorrow (7/29/16), if WDW Magic and others are to be believed. WDW Magic has the new menu up as well. I believe @Scott MC has been extremely interested. Sadly, Potato Crusted Red Snapper is off the menu. :sad1:

Thank you! We're already on it! Can. Not Wait.

I sometimes get sick from the sun, too, and a hat doesn't always help, either. But the few times I have used an umbrella have saved my life, so to speak. I think you should just use one if you want to and not worry about what all those strangers think. After all, you will never see them again. :)

I think I will. Just for World Showcase, and Disney Springs. And I promise I will be careful with it.

Having a super time at Anna Maria Island. Weather has been perfect. Unfortunately on Saturday morning on the way to Port Canaveral, we will pass WDW and I think I will get very emotional ....driving on the same road I took to get to work. I think I will be fine when I come in September with Lily...my first experience on Magical Express since it will be a new experience. I miss you all!!!!!

Kisses! We miss you too!

The one I have is a lightweight lotion, I love the sprays also but if you like you could do the lotion just on the face.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll get both.

Heheh.

Stunning. She's such a little devil though. Boy is Grammy going to be in trouble when the boys come around!

A complete renovation is due to start soon of all the rooms. New everything. I can't imagine any sort of expansion of the actual resort, unless we're about to get YCV or along the lines of the Poly...."Yacht Club Mini-Boat Houses."

Interesting. That actually fits with what snippets i could pick up. If they go that route i bet it will be popular

Ugh. Please NO!!!! Leave my YC alone!!! There aren't many views if Epcot or World Showcase from YC.

Ugh...unless they build up.
I'm looking at a satellite view of YC and I don't know where they would build. Unless, as I said earlier, they build *IN* Crescent Lake.

Maybe they were talking about converting YC resort rooms to DVC like they are doing at the Wilderness Lodge.

Hello Yacht/Beach Club lovers! So it's only been a few months since my honeymoon and first ever trip to Disney World. I'm already getting the itch to go back! Not sure how soon we will be going back but the fun process of planning is a way to keep me satisfied! My wife and I stayed for 10 days at the Yacht Club and we had a blast. The hotel was so nice but what we really loved was the convenient location with how easy it was to get to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Besides Magic Kingdom, walking around World Showcase was one of our favorite things to do! One thing that we realized though was that we barely spent any time at the hotel itself. We really only used the hotel for sleep since we were out at the parks each entire day. While we didn't mind splurging for a beautiful deluxe resort for our honeymoon, it was in the back of our minds how much money we paid just to sleep at night! Unless we want to go broke from continuing to visit Disney we may need a new resort plan. This is where you all come in!

I'm sure many of you have loves for other (less expensive) resorts and I would love to hear from anyone. To help out with your suggestions, here is what my wife and I care about the most. The biggest thing we liked about the yacht club was it's location as I said before. We enjoyed the quick trips over to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. More so Epcot since waiting and riding the boat to HS still took a good amount of time. We don't want to rent a car so we will be using Disney's transportation to the park. When we pick a new resort we will be relying on bus service for all parks this time so it would be nice to pick a resort that has a good reputation with it's bus service. We also don't care much about Disney Springs so being close to that doesn't really matter. Same thing goes for Animal Kingdom. AK was fun but our loves for MK/Epcot/HS is what really matters!

I think we are just worried, after being spoiled our first time in Disney, that we will have a bit of disappointment if we choose a value or moderate resort. We can't justify though spending $400+ a night just to sleep. I'm sure you Disney pros will have some great suggestions. Thank you!

We are huge YC fans, but we have stayed at other resorts. Of all of the moderates, Cornado Springs had the very best bus service. It is pretty centrally located, and many of the people staying there are convention visitors. This seems to make the buses less crowded.

The resort has a south western theme which did not appeal to me as much as the nautical theme of YC. I enjoyed the Pepper Market food court, but some people do not like it.

The rooms were very clean. There is a lake that is beautiful. While YC/BC will always be my first choice, I would stay at Cornado again without hesitation.

It's official - we're going back home! Not for 674 days, but it's something! We had such an amazing time on our trip this past June that we decided to return in 2018. Wish it was next year, but DH isn't obsessed as the girls and I are and asked for a year off in between. We adored the YC so we will definitely be going back - can't wait to see the rooms after the refurb. Tentative dates are June 2-12. Now to keep myself busy for two years...

My husband isn't a big fan of Disney either. We have gone yearly for the past 10 years because my children and myself love it. We make it work by him staying at the resort until 2-3pm and then either he meets us at the parks after that or we all go together in the late afternoon. He loves lounging around the pool during the day and enjoys the nice sit down dinners we have every night. Sometimes I go earlier to the parks with the kids via bus/boat and that works out fine also. Just and idea but this has worked for many years for us. I think sometimes people just don't like to go commando because they don't feel like it's a relaxing vacation. We go for a longer time and take our time and relax a lot and it works out great.

As I think more about the YC/DVC thing....it would explain why the refurbishments keep getting pushed back....
Hmm....:guilty:

I think you might be right. I know Yacht Club has been on the rumored DVC list for some time, and it is the last deluxe to not have it. For better or worse, it kind of feels inevitable. I can see that doesn't sound good to you, and I know how that feels. I was devastated when they started building DVC at my beloved Poly, but I've come around to it over time. Hugs to you... and maybe it's not true anyway. Where would they expand to, and would their convention business suffer if they replaced regular rooms with DVC units?

On a Beach Club note, Glass Slipper Digest has some new pictures of the Nantucket Suite. Looks gorgeous.

I agree! We love the YC but have not been able to stay there the last 2 years because there were no military discounted rooms for our time frame. I hope they don't DVC it.

Does anyone know if the marketplace at beach club still sells the Epcot passports? I'm really hoping to avoid going to Epcot on day one, but want to let them work on their passports in the room :)

Wowie....we stayed in this room! I love what they've done to it!

Thank you so much for your wonderful replies!! I've also stayed BC CL and BWI CL and in very excited this time to try out a new resort and CL -- it may just become my new favourite (at present AKL CL holds that spot for our family) -- however this trip with Just hubby and I , I'm looking forward to the location of YC and the more adult vibe.
I sure hope the renos are done before Nov 2017 - it would be nice to have a fresh room ☺️
I am excited and so I think I might be able to squash the resort changitis for once and maybe keep my reservation as is

YC has a quiet friendliness to it. The first time we stayed there, I got anxious about it in the lobby (I was BC or BWI for life at the time), and the "Captain" in the lobby talked with me about what I was looking for out of my vacation, and after a few minutes of chatting, we agreed that YC actually fit my needs better than BC (BUT I STILL LOVE YOU BC!) and not only did we end up having a wonderful time on that stay, but there have been more than a few since, and while our #2 and #3 resorts change by the day, YC has remained our #1 favorite since. We love the more grown-up feel to the place, and since there's no character meal off the lobby (I'm looking at you Cape May!), the lobby has more of an elegant, quiet, formal, but not stiff vibe. Along with the GF, YC feels like the most expensive and/or exclusive resort to us. The lobby bar is fantastic to have a drink in at the end of the day, and I can vouch that Diane and Robin are excellent bartenders there. The gift shop is so nice and quiet, and you hear the soft music better at YC, and they do pump in that "BC Smell" in the lobby. I know they're due for a renovation, and it's coming relatively soon, so at this precise moment, the rooms at BC feel a bit more updated, but we've recently found the rooms at YC to be immaculately clean, the pillows awesome (we bought them for our home) and housekeeping to be fantastic. I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

1. That's the pic of Stormy from our book at school!
2. Ouch. Double ouch. Noted.

Well, I consider myself to be very careful in these situations. Last year, we got caught in the China pavilion (we were staying at BC) in one of the worst rainstorms ever, and we'd already checked out, and didn't want to fly home in clammy clothes. I bought the biggest umbrella ever in the China pavilion (it was comically big) and DP noted how beautifully I managed to navigate the crowds with it. Of course common courtesy would be followed.

I loved one called "Cool Mist" by Neutrogena but they don't seem to make it anymore! Not only did it work magic, but it smelled like heaven!

:flower:

Lol! There are plenty of us who love & prefer the YC, we're just trying to keep it's wonderfulness a secret!! No point letting everybody know how great it is & make it hard to get a room there. ;)

We started staying at YC about 15 years ago & a lagoon view club room is our favorite room on property. When we walk in that lobby, we immediately feel relaxed & at ease. It is just my DH & me traveling, (60 & 59), no kids. There are more adults at YC it seems, but there are still families & kids there. It does not bother us to see convention goers walking around in business attire. Some people don't like to see that while they're on vacation, doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of the resort at all.

The club lounge is usually more adults, but again, you will see kids & teens there too. The lounge has a quiet, relaxed atmosphere I think. The food service area was enlarged last year & it seems easier to access the different offerings now. The food is pretty typical of all the Disney club levels, nothing really unique or special. I loved the new lounge, clean, modern & fresh. There are a few upholstered chairs for sitting, but there isn't a couch or any real lounging areas. It is mostly tables & chairs.

We are don't need a lot of attention from cast members. I like to handle all our ADRs & other plans. We are fine with a quick smile & hi from CMs but I don't need them to know my whole family by name & all our life story. Some people like that type of attention, but we don't. There are some BWI CMs that folks love because they are so friendly & outgoing. We tried the BW CL about 3 years ago & definitely didn't care for the raucous, loud interactions we observed among the CMs there. At YC, we get a smile & greeting as we come & go, that's fine with us. We find them friendly & helpful if we do need something tho.

The rooms do need updating as previously noted. But they are clean & in good repair. I would hope the rehab will be done by next fall, so you should be ok there. I'm just concerned about your statement that BC seemed sterile to you. Was that just the color palate that made you think that? The decor is basically the same at both YC & BC, just different color schemes. The balconies are great for relaxing. Even rooms that overlook the pool aren't that loud, you do hear the music when you're on the balcony, but it isn't blaringly loud.

Hope you have a great vacation & enjoy the YC!
Hi :) thank you for your reply, it sounds like YC might be just what we are looking for! I found the attitudes sterile I guess at the BC -- I don't need over the top attention, but I felt ignored and a stranger there, no one greeted us in the lounge when we came and went. My son and I stayed before the renos in 2011 / he was 14(a month away from being 15) and it was a mom and son trip.... First thing we both said after spending a couple hours there was "I wish we where at AKL!!" It just didn't feel comforting and like "home" where AKL wraps us up the minute we arrive. We decided to just stay put as we where only at BC for 5 days. My hubby doesn't like the chaos of BC lobby, nor did he enjoy the cape may buffet, so staying over at YC's relative calmness might be better for us overall
I'm excited to experience the YC and it's been awhile since I felt that giddy excitement over a resort ☺️

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

:cool1:

My first stay at the YC will be in October so I can't offer any personal feedback about the resort, but lots of people who post here are big fans.

The lounge was recently remodeled, you can find some pictures in Post 12, along with some photos of the food offerings there. I probably need to get some updated pictures of the food & drink, though.

:)
Thank you Natebenma! ☺️ My dates are Nov 11-Nov 18, 2017
We will begin out experience with a Eastern Caribbean sailing on the Fantasy Nov 4- Nov 11, 2017 ☺️ We're very excited to be fortunate enough to do another cruise and week at WDW - can't wait! ☺️
