Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

There is more than one type of bus floating around in WDW. I have seen 3 scooters tied down on a bus. Two on the left side and one on the right. This was back when Disney was trying out different bus configurations like the double bus so I'm not sure how many of the triple scooter types made the "cut" and were purchased.

Not necessarily true! I've actually never been on one that didn't accommodate at least two. Occasionally I've even seen some newer ones that can accommodate three. :thumbsup2

Oops! Sorry for the confusion regarding scooter capacity. I should have mentioned that our last trip was over 2 years ago!! I sit corrected.

GrandmaG, ENJOY your vaca with your grandkids and your daughter and SIL! Hope its MAGICAL!:wizard::thumbsup2

Grandma G: LOVE your Signature artwork! Huge villain fan here:)
::welcome:

Great intro post!

Yes, it would be my pleasure to add you to the list.

Hit us with whatever questions you have.

:cool1:

Thank you! We are one of those truly fortunate family groups who travel well together - or, at least, no member of it has yet disabused me of that cheerful notion - and all of us are really looking forward to this trip. So your warm wlecomes and good wishes are very appreciated.

And it is really nice to know that you liked my Signature, Ocalla. It was fashioned in an extremely user-friendly-for-dummies program called Animation Shop that I purchased with my first PC in 1999 and that, years later, made the transition to a new home - with Vista - even though it wasn't supposed to be able to get even a no-longer-supported toe in that infamous door. But, it's time for another new computer and I am so afraid that this time all of the dire predictions of terminal incompatibility will come true. So, I spent last evening beginning to provide Cruella de Halle with a wider selection of calling cards. Just in case there should develop a pent-up demand for them following the Shop's demise ... :)

Too, my granddaughter, daughter and I are glad to know that there is another Villains fan abroad on the Board. I've always thought that our love of Disney's misbehaved may be genetic (on my father's side). Perhaps we're related.

It was also so good to see my name included in the Be Our Guest List, Dee. It really has made our planning for a yet-a-year-away arrival at The Beach Club that much more fun. And I do have a question (and a confession, of sorts):

Our Disney trips have always had their beginnings months (or a year or more) before their dates. And I have always just called Disney and booked what we wanted, when we wanted it. Assuming, for some nebulous reason, that paying rack rate was an inevitable cost of early planning. Now, of course, I've discoverd DIS. And all of the lovely discounts that I never knew existed. But, because like Margaret Mitchell and her heroine, I'm a Sagittarius and tend to just shoo away regret as I would any other persistent pest, I'll think about that tomorrow. Today, however ...

I think that I understand most of them. But The Magical Deal mystifies me. What is it? When does it make an appearance? And how does one go about getting it?

Finally, I'll presume to add this for Teena ...

My husband of 50 years died in late January of 2013. A few weeks later, my son-in-law's father (and a dear friend) left us. In eary April, my mother - and my father's wife of 72 years - died. The following week, my sister-in-law died. Or, put another way, within four horrible months, two of my grandchildren lost both of their grandfathers, their great-grandmother and a great-aunt. 2013 was a very awful year.

But, it does get better. I promise. And sometimes the ways that it manages to do that are a little astonishing. For instance, I still find myself speaking their names aloud at, sometimes very, odd moments: recently, sitting beside my daughter at the beach, a sea bird startled me and I clutched her arm and, much as I would have done as an alarmed child, I cried Mother!.

I don't try to understand or explain this spontaneous and quirky little coping mechanism. I just know that it helps. As will the ones, big and small, that you'll discover as you make it through to a healthy afterward.

I wish you godspeed to there, Teena. And I very much hope to meet you next October.

Thank you so much. Unfortunately I think I will be in Nevada next October. As it stands now I'll be moving there next August. I still have almost a year left in my beloved Florida.

My favorite is Maleficent...and yes, I loved the movie! I hate that the Villain shop in HS went away...no respect!! But I do have a coffee mug with that poster you posted...I really enjoy looking at all those nasties!

Teena: Richard and I will sure miss seeing you next week!! I'm so glad Jeanne is still in.

One day at a time.

I also hate to think of the BC club without you . But I know a little girl that will be ecstatic to have her grandmother near her!!

21 days away from our BC stay!!!
Last night i was able to grab a Yachtman Steakhouse ressie for my wife and I (we'll be celebrating our 8th anniversary while visiting) and our Magic Bands came today!!:mickeyjum
Our trip is finally feeling real, we can't wait for it to get here!

Teena ...

It was very kind of you to take the time to reply to my post.

And if I don't have the opportunity to meet you next fall, I'll be very much aware that a special ingredient of The Beach Club's fabled hospitality is missing.

You know, the piece of thoughtful advice that I most frequently received following my husband's death was to try to postpone life-changing decisions until I was better able to consider them more pragmatically. And I know that, by now, you've heard it more than a few times too.

For me, that was advice very easy to follow: I am, from birth, a procrastinator of the first order. Too, all of my immediate family members live within a thirty-minute radius of my home. But, for others, particularly when loved ones are scattered over long distances, having important matters quickly and soundly decided and loved ones close in the aftermath of loss is much more important. And comforting.

Last spring, I spent a month with my aunt at her winter condo in a beautiful retirement complex in Boynton Beach. Florida is lovely. I had forgotten how lovely. But so too is Nevada ... :)

Teena, you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. I can only imagine your loss and how you miss your wonderful Bob. I am happy for you to think you may relocate to Nevada. Will this be good for your COPD too? Lily and Jeanne will take good care of you

I don't think that's asking too much. At all!

Because, to be honest, Disney's heroes and heroines (with the exception of Captain Jack Sparrow) are all pretty much bland beings. It is, to use a popular jargon, the Villains who've maintained the brand for decades. So I think that those of us who adore them are entitled to, at the very least, a Land.

But I love the idea of a Resort best. What theme would you most like?

I think I would have Wonderland. A lush, topiary-filled, over-the-top-opulent, topsy-turvy, bad-is-good, left-is-right corner of The World where any one of dozens of very wicked, and very familiar, faces might appear at any moment. And where whims were granted as a matter of course. Can you just imagine Ursula ... through The Looking Glass.

Most indulgent perk, for me ...

The clocks throughout the Resort would all be wrong, all of the time. But Dining Rooms anywhere and everywhere on the property would have to seat Wonderland's late-late-for-a-very-important-date
guests ... anyway. Ha!

I haven't posted here in a while, but now I am really getting excited about our trip! Since we've done WDW a few times as a couple in the past few years, I really haven't planned as much for this trip. It is the first time with our DS, who will be 2 when we go, and I don't want to get too stressed out having to be on a schedule. So, for the first time I don't have ADRs for every single meal, and *gasp* NO fastpasses yet! I am pregnant and going to be in my second trimester when we go, and DS probably won't be able to go on many big rides, so I figure fastpasses are fairly unnecessary. I kind of want to relax and just enjoy what we can...maybe even spend more time at the resort than we normally do. Does that sound crazy?

I'm good. One of our friends here brought me loads of different chocolate kinds of Tastycakes and I have them in the freezer.

I lost my Mom and Dad both after retiring here in Florida and it was very difficult. It's been over six years now and I still go to pick up the phone to call them when something happens that I know they would love to hear about. Now I think of them often and wonder how Dad went on without Mom for two years ... they were together over 60 years. I can't picture or want a life without Bob and we had about 39 years together. I know time will help heal but it's going to take a lot of time. Once Jeanne goes back home on Monday, I know it will be horribly difficult. I haven't lived alone since I was in my 20's. Can't imagine how I'm going to feel.

Get excited about your trip with your daughter. Enjoy the time and I truly believe your Mom will be watching and enjoying the joy your daughter gets and also your joy from seeing your daughter at Disney. I can't wait until I see Lily again in October. Jeanne and Lily are the reason I have to be strong and I have to constantly tell myself that. Your vacation couldn't have come at a better time in my opinion. It will do you both so good!!!!
:grouphug:

I think being with your girls would be the best thing ever! I also believe Bob will always be with you, no matter where you are

Teena, glad to hear that Jeanne is still there with you. The only advice I can give is to take it one day at a time. Baby steps as I told one of my client's who lost her husband.

I have a question about the slide… what age would you feel comfortable letting your kids walk to the slide by themselves? Mine will be just shy of 7 when we go. If we're sitting by the exit, is the walk over safe etc enough for an almost 7 year old to go to alone?

Hopefully you will be able to still book the little mermaid room if you decide to cut it in half. I'm not crazy about Disney's new policy of only changing rooms/resorts if there is a new reservation available.

~Cari~ pluto:

I thought that just applied to rooms with discounts. I can't just delete a few days on a room only with no discount?

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but while I was leaving the pool area a couple of weeks ago, I found a spot (up against the towel return, I think) where you could see the area where the slide lets out into the pool and you can see someone crossing over to the slide entrance, at the same time.

Hi! We are happy to return to the YC from 12/20-12/23. We stayed for 1 night in July and were instant converts to the split stay Epcot resort camp. This is our first Christmas trip as well.

My 7.5 year old was fine this summer. He is bold, though, and often walked with his older sister. I actually stayed in the toddler slide area on the stair end. This worked fine for us, and was really our only option to managing different slides! There are cms in between, too, so you can just talk to him about how to get help if needed. My son is a strong swimmer, and we watched the first several exits to make sure he followed the rules.

I keep going back and forth on bringing my son's puddle jumper life jacket for swimming -- it's so much easier for him to swim in than a life jacket. Any tips?
