Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

I keep going back and forth on bringing my son's puddle jumper life jacket for swimming -- it's so much easier for him to swim in than a life jacket. Any tips?
I saw a family who had put these on their kids at SAB. I had never seen them before but they look more comfortable than the life jackets.

GrandmaG: you won't believe that Alice In Wonderland characters are my Favorite!!! In fact my avatar for the last several years has been Cheshire Cat...when the Dis format changed I had trouble finding him again...alas Mulan

Love ur resort ideas!!!!ive always pictured a resort with seperate wings? Or longhouses. Each one with a different villain theme!!!!

I've been a bit tongue-in-cheek about this, but I do agree with you. I think that a Villains-themed Resort with several character(s)-specific wings/buildings would quickly become very popular.

Too, I had really hoped that the plans for DHS would include, if not a Land of their very own, then an upscale Table Service Dining Room that would host Villain-ous Character Breakfasts and Dinners. For instance, I'd love to see Disney create an Animator's Palate sort of dining experience for that Park. And to bring Wonderland to vibrant life - with visiting bad boys and girls from other storied realms also stopping by - in the Animation Building and Courtyard - would be so perfect.

Ah, to dream ...:)

Are the dole whips currently still being served at the pool area?

Good question, but I think the answer is no :(

When our group was there Aug 29-Sept 1, we never saw the window open or any signs. When we asked some of the recreation staff near the window, we were told that it depends on staffing at the pool area. Others have reported that they have not seen it open since, but if there are any recent reports of the availability of the Frozen Pineapple Treats at SAB since the beginning of September, I would love to hear about it!

:thumbsup2

I thought that just applied to rooms with discounts. I can't just delete a few days on a room only with no discount?

Other posters can correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe Disney is cracking down on being able to break down your trip to a shorter stay. I know you can't add a day unless it's a separate reservation (unless the full time is available anyway) under a new reservation. Although they may still let you do it since it's an entire week you are cutting off...

Please add us to the BOG. We will be at BC April 8 - 10, 2016!

:welcome:

Will do

Is there anywhere to buy postcard stamps at the BC?

I'm not sure. Best guess would be at the Marketplace. But if you still have time before your trip, maybe you could pick up some stamps at your local post office before your trip.

:thumbsup2

We arrived at BC on Monday ... an awesome experience so far! Check-in was flawless ... we were greeted as we got off ME and led directly to the fifth floor and checked in right away. Even though it was only @ 1 pm, our room was available. We got my request of getting a daybed, even though there are only four of us in our group. We overlook a rooftop direct, but to the left (and not straining to look, very easy-to-enjoy view) is of Stormalong Bay. Lovely resort and everyone has just been so friendly and helpful. My 13-year-old is in love with the scene in the lobby. Mousekeeping has been the best ... plenty of towels and amenities (including extra chocolates at turndown!). Haven't been to Stormalong Bay yet, but easy walk to the pier where we caught the boat for DHS Monday afternoon, after check-in, and bus service to / from AK today was very efficient. Not too busy here, compared to the two other times we've been at WDW (May and August of previous years), and lounge cast members are super nice and helpful. Tomorrow ... MK for my youngest's 5th birthday!

Thanks for checking in with us. Glad to hear your trip is off to a good start. I hope your son had a fantastic, magical birthday!

:cake:

Hey y'all! We leave in 9 days for our first stay at YC. Last year we were at BC and loved it. Lots of Georgia peeps heading to WDW for Fall Break...anyone else there the 19th - 26th?

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

BTW- that is the place you can go to see who has reported trips at the same time as you. I'll provide the link in my next post.

:woohoo:

On a related note...did I read somewhere recently that resorts no longer had push wheel chairs for guests to use? Those have come in handy on a couple of trips for my family.

BUMP!

I have heard that too.

:(

I haven't posted here in a while, but now I am really getting excited about our trip! Since we've done WDW a few times as a couple in the past few years, I really haven't planned as much for this trip. It is the first time with our DS, who will be 2 when we go, and I don't want to get too stressed out having to be on a schedule. So, for the first time I don't have ADRs for every single meal, and *gasp* NO fastpasses yet! I am pregnant and going to be in my second trimester when we go, and DS probably won't be able to go on many big rides, so I figure fastpasses are fairly unnecessary.

Congratulations!

I kind of want to relax and just enjoy what we can...maybe even spend more time at the resort than we normally do. Does that sound crazy?

Sounds lovely!

Hi! We are happy to return to the YC from 12/20-12/23. We stayed for 1 night in July and were instant converts to the split stay Epcot resort camp. This is our first Christmas trip as well.

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

Thank you all for your responses. I won't tell mom the bus driver can't help her; I'll just do it myself. That should be fun! ;)

I am glad to hear we can still load even if people are on. Part of our excitement is due to knowing we can just walk (scoot) to Epcot/HS and don't need the bus, but we'll be going to Magic Kingdom several times and will need it then. Fingers crossed.
I know that you are going to be a big help to your Mom on this trip! Disney has done much in the past 10 years to make so much of their resorts and theme parks handicap accessible. No one does it better, in our opinion. It has been a long time since we have seen a bus that can only accommodate one scooter or wheelchair. Most can take 2 now, as there are seats that fold up and make room for those to be parked safely.

I would like to give you some advice, coming from someone who has traveled with a husband who uses a scooter full time now. Take your time, don't worry about getting on and off the buses, and don't ever let others make you feel uncomfortable because they have to wait for you as the scooter is loaded. You will all get on that bus or the next one. There is always another bus! Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Thank you so much. Unfortunately I think I will be in Nevada next October. As it stands now I'll be moving there next August. I still have almost a year left in my beloved Florida.
:( for us, Teena. And for WDW and the BC as well. But good for you (and Jeanne and Lily) if this is a place you want to be.

Makes it even more important that I have the chance to see you again in November when we are there.

I have been going crazy trying to read this thread today! All the posts are out of order and trying to follow replies has been ridiculous! I am seeing replies before the posts themselves ever appear. I keep thinking I have missed pages of posts but that is not the case... just out of order!

Anyone else having trouble or is it just me today??

Are the dole whips currently still being served at the pool area?
I just returned from BC a few days ago. I was told that they were not called "Dole Whips." They were "pineapple whips." :) Apparently, they were discontinued in August and will be available on a "seasonal" basis, only. I was told that when they were being served, the stand was near the YC volleyball area.

Lots of trip reporting to do, but I have been very busy at work, since returning. I will try to catch up and post over the weekend.

When DGD still used one we brought hers it is so much easier for her to swim and play in than a life jacket. If you can fit it, bring it. Pack a large garbage bag to put it in just in case it's not dry

This is true of all locations EXCEPT the ones Dole pays to put their name on
Doesn't mean they aren't all the same thing though
Best ones in all of Disney are the ones with rum :)

I've been away for a while. Last trip to BC was early 2014. Visited WDW earlier this year, but traveled with other family who didn't want to/couldn't afford BC so we stayed at POR. Anyway, looks like maybe, just maybe DH and I will be back in 2016 for our second couples only trip. Hoping for a discount to make it happen :-).

Teena, first thing I saw when I came back to this thread was the passing of your husband. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I know from your posts that the two of you were about as close as any couple could be. Happy you have the wonderful support of your Jeanne and Lily. I will keep you and them in my prayers.
