Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but while I was leaving the pool area a couple of weeks ago, I found a spot (up against the towel return, I think) where you could see the area where the slide lets out into the pool and you can see someone crossing over to the slide entrance, at the same time.

Thanks! So are there chairs there? I only have the one kid, so I don't need to watch both at the same time so much as I'd like to be able to lounge and still be sure he's safe.

My 7.5 year old was fine this summer. He is bold, though, and often walked with his older sister. I actually stayed in the toddler slide area on the stair end. This worked fine for us, and was really our only option to managing different slides! There are cms in between, too, so you can just talk to him about how to get help if needed. My son is a strong swimmer, and we watched the first several exits to make sure he followed the rules.

My son is bold too, to say the least. It's more likely he will try to forbid me from walking him back and forth. He's very independent, which I like, but it's a little fierce sometimes. :-)

Other posters can correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe Disney is cracking down on being able to break down your trip to a shorter stay. I know you can't add a day unless it's a separate reservation (unless the full time is available anyway) under a new reservation. Although they may still let you do it since it's an entire week you are cutting off...

Hmmm. I will have to check up on that since I really thought it was just relating to discounts. Fortunately there are still LM rooms for my dates right now, so at least it's not already and issue. Thanks!

I don't think that's asking too much. At all!

Because, to be honest, Disney's heroes and heroines (with the exception of Captain Jack Sparrow) are all pretty much bland beings. It is, to use a popular jargon, the Villains who've maintained the brand for decades. So I think that those of us who adore them are entitled to, at the very least, a Land.

But I love the idea of a Resort best. What theme would you most like?

I think I would have Wonderland. A lush, topiary-filled, over-the-top-opulent, topsy-turvy, bad-is-good corner of The World where any one of dozens of very wicked, and very familiar, faces might appear at any moment. And where whims were granted as a matter of course. Can you just imagine Ursula ... through the Looking Glass.

Most indulgent perk, for me ...

The clocks throughout the Resort would all be wrong, all of the time. But Dining Rooms anywhere and everywhere on the property would have to seat Wonderland's late-late-for-a-very-important-date guests ... anyway. Ha!

gg

I hunk a Villains-themed resort would be fabulous! My oldest daughter and I were very put out that Villains in Vogue closed at HS. I read an interesting article rating the various heroines. I think Mulan came out on top, Snow White was at the bottom. Cinderella rated higher than I would have thought, but the reasoning was that she at least tried to get herself out of a horrible situation, versus sleeping until a prince showed up to save the day. The ratings for princes was also interesting. Charming and whoever marries Snow White were dead last, as best I can recall. Honestly, the woodsman who lets Snow White go is more interesting than the title character or the guy who kisses her at the end.

I have a question about the slide… what age would you feel comfortable letting your kids walk to the slide by themselves? Mine will be just shy of 7 when we go. If we're sitting by the exit, is the walk over safe etc enough for an almost 7 year old to go to alone?

I thought it was perfectly safe. I know there are some folks on this board who disagree and think SAB in general is too big to keep track of younger kids. As for letting a child hit the slide alone, I'd say it depends on the child to some degree. My oldest and middle daughter would have been totally fine at that age and I'd have been fine letting them go alone. My son was just shy of seven last summer when we were at YC and he was only willing to go there with one of his sisters or with me. But he tends to not like being alone at all. I don't think he'd want to go it alone this year, either.

I keep going back and forth on bringing my son's puddle jumper life jacket for swimming -- it's so much easier for him to swim in than a life jacket. Any tips?

I think AngiTN has a good suggestion with the bag (I used the plastic bag for laundry that's usually hanging in the closet). I vastly preferred using our puddle jumper to the vests provided by Disney, and so did my kids. I did stick with the ones at the pool the last day we went swimming just so I wouldn't have to bring home a vest that was completely soaked through.

Very sad news here from the NEWS FORUM...This will be the last year for the Osborne Family Lights...due to all the "new and exciting" stuff being planned/started at Hollywood Studios...dang...I will definitely miss this one!! :sad2:

I know it's not Disney but if you feel the need to see a spectacular light show come visit Rochester, MI.

Tomorrow it'll be one week since our vacation and I seriously have the Disney Blues. :( We won't be going back until at least 2017.

I feel like I have so much time on my hands since I'm not planning a trip!

The last day for Mulch Sweat and Shears is October 10th 2015.

It seems the carnage continues with this cut.

No, no chairs. I took the pictures standing in the walkway. But it was good that you could see both the pathway to the slide entrance and the exit from the slide to the pool from the same place. Might be good the first couple of times and then maybe you can grab some chairs and sit by the pool

Does anyone know if I can buy a bottle of rum at BC or YC? A rum & coke at night would sure help sooth the aches and pains.

You can probably find one, but to avoid the higher prices, we usually bring along several bottles of wine, and any other "beverages" we may want to enjoy. Some trips, our luggage almost clangs...!!

Try to pack them in a plastic bag and socks and surrounded by lots of very soft things to cushion. Haven't had any breakages yet...(knock on wood!!). Between those and the snacks we bring along for our room, it uses the space that will be taken up by souvenirs on the trip home.

Dee your pics are perfect there are some chairs right where the slide empties to and you can stand and watch them walk to the slide . You can keep an eye on them - I have a 6 and 8 year old and after the first time accompanying them I felt pretty secure letting them go alone and ps the slide is super intense!!!!! Lol
Also there are a bunch of chairs available today not too many chair piggies!!

Just wanted to update on the room .. We were originally given room 4687 with a daybed and Juliette balcony very pretty view of the main pool and lagoon but INCREDIBLY loud!!! I didn't take a pic but you could see the cm's with mic doing the activities -I politely asked if there was another room available (I called from the original room and Scott changed our room without even going back down and all bands worked perfectly despite change -we moved to a first floor room by the quiet pool sooo much nicer quiet and access to the small pool by opening our sliding door :) very nice when the girls want to just take a quick dip I think it's by the secret entrance and look what the strange shelf is useful for?! Lol couldn't be happier with this experience !

I'm scared to bring bottles, but maybe those plastic travelers would work. They're small, so I'll pack 2!

Leaving tomorrow (yay!) for Beach Club! Just wondering if there are easy to reach (i.e. not behind the bed) plugs for your phones next to the bed (on or near that strange shelf)? Thanks!

Somebody asked about buying stamps. If somebody wants to investigate, the question is not just whether they are sold in the gift shops. If they are, the next question would be whether there is a mark up on the price.
