Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Quick report on our arrival today. Love the new rooms! Have a room looking out over the back entrance. Have a full balcony (after asking really nicely to change our room). It messed up our magic bands but cm finally got it straightened out. CM give us 2 fp+ for the time it took- I really appreciated it but kept telling them they didn't need to. It was our request to change the caused the problem not anything they did. Had a great day. Ate lunch at Beaches & Cream and dinner at Crew Club. CMs have all been very friendly. Crowds aren't as big as I expected. Looking forward to a great day tomorrow.

Scott - I thought I was bad! We get back a little after midnight ( flying home on 8/31) and we start school on 9/2 - but 8 hours WOW

Hope to meet up with you guys and Tarak!

Actually, we do this almost every year. It's what best fits into our schedule, and I manage...I just plan well before I go, and go to bed early a lot that first week or 2!

And DIS Pixie dust is truly magical, you've got lots of that headed your Dad's way!

Thank you! I think the Pixie Dust is already here, in that he made it to the hospital before he had a much bigger, more tragic problem!

Best of luck to your Dad Scott. I'm an administrator at MGH so rest assured that he is in GREAT hands!!

Jay

Good to know! He met with the surgeon yesterday and asked, "Should I consider doing this at MGH?" (he's currently at Salem Hospital), and the reply was, "Why? I work for MGH!"

It's even more fun with a 3 hr time change. I get home 8/6 & back to school 8/8, ugh.

Ick!

By the Hour!! NOPE! It was supposed to be by the adjective. I'll have to keep my eye on you New England Types...

PS Good luck with your Dad. Everyone is correct when they say that he will be feeling way better after the surgery. It's just getting through the surgery and the recovery that will be an effort. Keep reminding him that he will feel younger, look younger and if he's bald tell him all of his hair will grow back and then some. That last part is a lie but with the pain pills they will prescribe he is bound to believe it

Heh. I've been told he'll be pretty loopy for the first 36 hours afterward. He's not bald at all. Now me on the other hand... :guilty:

Scott prayers for your dad. Hope he's felling better real soon. Good thing he had that dizzy spell checked out.

Right? That scary dizzy spell (he was sweating profusely too) was a God-send!

@Scott MC -speedy recovery for your dad! I work with CAB patients a lot (clinical nutritionist) and the vast great 99% majority come through with no problems. A month after the surgery he will be amazed at how much better he feels. Hope your family has a fun trip!

Thank you!

i have a one bed suite with concierge booked can you tell me if these suites have full balconies please and also what floor is concierge on?

One more suggestion for you- email the Beach Club IPO (Itinerary Planning Office/club level) and ask them if they can give you descriptions of the rooms in your booking category (location and balcony situation). Unless we get some feedback or information from guests who have stayed in the one bedroom suites, we don't know the features of these rooms.

:)

I have 2 options, beaches and cream on arrival day or for dinner on our Hollywood Studios day before we head back for Fantasmic. We have lunch at 11:30 that day. Which is the better day to go to Beaches and Cream.
I'm struggling with being effective in my planning vs over scheduling us.

So did you do the advanced online checkin?

A lot of people ask if they should and what the advantages/disadvantages are.

It sounds like maybe your Magic Bands were already programmed for the original room and it was a little inconvenience when you switched rooms.

Am I interpreting that correctly or is that not what happened?

Thanks!

LIVE REPORT!

Today was our Epcot day. It wasn't too terribly busy. We enjoyed lunch at Sunshine Seasons. My daughter and husband inhaled their salmon. Literally nothing was left on their plate! Our youngest daughter had a Cesar salad (delicious!) and I ordered the fish tacos. Everything was delicious! In Dee's honor I ordered the strawberry shortcake. It was fantastic! So light and tasty! My husband and I also shared a Grey Goose Slushie and our first ever Habbibi Daquiri. They were both gone quickly. We loved them both! Karmel Kuchen (I'm sure I butchered that name) was where we stopped for a snack. Seriously, this place is one of the best uses of a snack credit.

The appetizers in the CL lounge were ok tonight. Chicken on a stick, seared tuna and a funky potato pea fried thing with mango chutney salsa. Not the best options we've seen. No one spit them out, though. We will be getting dinner from the Marketplace tonight. We will also be buying grab and go sandwiches for lunch tomorrow. My husband is taking the kids to Cocoa Beach while I tour the Disney Fantasy. The tour is for travel agents only. I'm so excited!!!!!! I've never been on a cruise ship before.

I know someone had a request to look for something at the Marketplace. I'll search for who and what it is and I'll get back to you!

My Longboard beer is getting low so I need to run down before the lounge closes to get more!

Have a Magical evening!
Sounds like an awesome day! I would love to hear about the fantasy -- and Disney cruise experiences -- oops am I already thinking about the next trip?

We love doing Beaches and Cream lunch in the first day. Gets us immersed in the whole BC/YC mood!

I just heard on another thread that they are not going to start the renovating the Beach Club Villas until next year. Little bummed. I wanted to impress my wife with a newer room so she would let me buy more DVC points.

Hi everyone, I'm in the early stages of planning a trip for July 2016 and had decided on YC instead of the BC to guarantee a room with a full balcony.

Does anyone know if the planned renovations will be finished by then, or should we just book BC to get a nice new room?

Thanks :)

I'm guessing TeenaS is the one giving the tour? It's a great ship. We had a wonderful cruise (the company we kept made it so) and we are looking forward to doing it again.

Got to ask, do you think the person who said it was speaking with inside knowledge of the situation? All we have seen from the DVC folks is that the start of the work has been delayed and no official start date has been set. If they have this inside knowledge and are speaking with some authority than it would be new information that all who read this thread will be interested to hear and Dee can put it on page one where she keeps us up to date on the refurb work. Otherwise, I'm keeping my hopes up that the BCV work is starting some time after the F&W event in Epcot. Just my thoughts on this. I'm there this December and will be making the best of the situation, regardless of what may or may not be happening. The BC/YC/BCV area is just too good to give up on because of a little work taking place.

Great choice of resorts! I think the best guess is right now that yes, there will be some refurb work going on somewhere at the YC next July but how much and where at in that resort is anyone's guess. Are you going CL? If so, you will be no where near the work. Otherwise, you'll just want to wait and see. Then, if there is work where you are staying, and it really is bothering you, tell the manager and get something worked out so you can relocate away from it. That is one big spread-out place there. If you really want a refurbushed room after we see what they look like, then you can always add that to your room request.

They said that they talked to the head of housekeeping and that's what he told them. Yes its here say Maybe someone going there soon can confirm

I would love to do that! A sunken treasure sounds good to me. I'm not staying CL (we're booked on a magical deal - paying about $200 per night for a standard room at the BC). But we could find somewhere to sit and chat, I'm sure. If not a lounge, we have the Solarium, right?

It's even more fun with a 3 hr time change. I get home 8/6 & back to school 8/8, ugh.

Last year my kids started school the day after we got back. This time, the school year doesn't begin until Tuesday. Why, I have no idea. Our school district is just weird when it comes to that sort of thing. I have to be at work bright and early, though. But we have a short flight and a hopefully painless drive home from BWI.

I would love to tour one of the cruise ships. My kids want so badly to take one of the Disney cruises. I'm *this* close to talking my husband into one over the Thanksgiving break in a few years. My kids are out of school from the Tuesday before through the Monday after (first day of hunting season is just as much a holiday in Pennsylvania as Thanksgiving). We'd have to take them out of school that one day, but I can't imagine they accomplish much the Monday before a week-long break...

Sounds like a credible source to me. If anyone should know, it would be housekeeping. Oh well, I haven't had a bad room yet at this resort so here's hoping the room we get won't be the one where we need to go back and speak to a manager about it. I guess in one way I'm happy they won't be doing the construction work while we are there, but it would have been nice to have had an opportunity for a freshened up room. You have to wonder if after they had done to the two "model" rooms they decided they didn't like what they saw.

Tarak - solarium sounds great!
I always think it's a BC hidden treasure. We did the magical deal last year. We paid $200 for our YC room and $300 for our GF room. This year we did the free dining BB. Haven't dine DDP in years (since kids became Disney "adults", so it should be fun.

Of course when we booked BB we weren't going to stay CL - now I know we'll have too much food!

Thanks for your help Katesdad, unfortunately no, we will not be staying CL, although I would love to try it!

I think we will just book the Beach Club to be sure of no issues, I know if I booked the YC I would just get stressed in the lead up to the stay about any work that we might encounter. Thanks again :)

I'm not sure if I read the same thing as joannjoe but I also read on the DVC boards that someone talked to a housekeeping supervisor about the BCV refurb. They said the BCV refurb will start in January 2016 upon completion of the BC and YC. So to me it seems like they want to get the YC done before they go to the BCV.

The time frame math is not adding up for this. They have not even completed the BC renovations with the first floor still in need of renovations. If you figure that it will take at least a year for a resort the size of the Yacht or Beach Club to be refurbished then the January 2016 date for a renovation start would only make sense if it was either the Yacht Club STARTING OR the Beach Club Villas STARTING, not completing the Yacht Club in addition to having completed the Beach Club, (which still has what remains of the second floor to finish as well as the entire first floor.).

I think a lot of the speculation about renovation times is being driven by people who have a trip to (Fill in the Blank: _______ A)Polynesian, B) Beach Club, C) Beach Club Villas, or D) Yacht Club.) The one thing we know for sure is that these renovations take forever. Case in point: The Beach Club started renovations in October 2014 and is currently only on the second floor after renovating the small 5th floor, the 4th floor and the 3rd floor.

So the moral of my story is that we can project all we want but until we have eyewitness reports that an area or resort has actually been started we won't really be able to know for sure what the start date will be. Anyone who has ever worked with contractors and construction projects knows that dates are arbitrary and delays are inevitable.

For those of you planing trips in the future and are trying to figure out whether or not the construction will be completed, you will need to rely on Ninja Mom's Rules of Disney Construction!

1) If you have a trip planned and are desperate for construction to be completed it will not be finished in time.
2) If you have no idea that construction is even happening at your resort, chances are you won't realize that it is actually happening and will be amazed after your trip is over to find out that the entire Polynesian resort was covered in polyethylene sheeting during the entire length of your stay.
3) The jackhammers and circular saws will only be heard by people that are especially sensitive to noise, meaning those with bionic hearing. People who have more than one child will NOT be able to hear the noise from construction equipment over the roar of their family's sibling rivalries.
4) The chances of you receiving a refurbished room are directly inverse in proportion to the number of rooms that have been refurbished.
5) If the manager of the resort tells you that construction will be: Pick one, A) Started, B) Finished this information will be unreliable but if a BUS DRIVER tells you his cousin heard a bait shop salesman with a cousin that worked at Sea World say that the renovations would be completed yesterday then you can count on that as an indisputable fact.
6) There are no construction problems that 6 Sunken Treasures and a pile of Modern Art towel animals can't solve.

Just curious, is it possible for both YC and BC to be booked up completely for Sept 12-19 week? That is a very slow time, NO Food & Wine yet....just doesn't add up? Unless there is a major convention going on?
