Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

I thought BC has had the same motion activated system for years as well. I'm fairly certain that was the case when we last stayed at BC and BWI/BWV as well as Polynesian. Since my husband is up multiple times in the night--the AC was activated and is not a problem. We have also utilized the "override" technique at other resorts and not had an issue with the AC.
We have stayed at the BC at least four times since they remodeled the rooms and put in the motion detector units. Only the first time we were in a remodeled room did we have a sensor that was affected by motion. That one routinely turned down a few degrees during the night. But since then we haven't had any problems with the temperature setting changing during the day or night. That has been our experience.

Hey guys! We just got notification our room is 2631 at Beach Club. I am looking at the specific map on this thread and can't tell exactly where it is in the building. It also looks like it has a roll in shower. Is that a handicap room? If so are there other things that will be different. Trying to get an idea before we get there what to expect!

I heard that the campfire ban has been lifted. Can anyone there confirm this is true and on what nights are they doing the campfires? Thanks!

We were in room 1634 and it was a handicap room. This room faced the volleyball court. Maybe your room might face the entrance on the lake side? I don't have the room number map with me at work so I can't look it up. Room 1634 was in that short wing that is located between the lake side entrance and the volleyball court.

Take the elevator to the second floor and when you get off, go down the hallway that is nearest to the elevators. It is a short hallway.

The only things that were different about the handicap room we had was that the bathroom is huge, had only one sink, a roll in shower and a sliding door. It also had sections of the closet that had some low rods and the room door had the handicap door opener/closer on it.

Was there anything besides no tub that is different in the room you had?
The wheelchair accessible room that I was once assigned had a door that opened and closed very slowly, to allow those in a wheelchair, etc., to pass through with enough time. The room also had a door actuator inside the room, on the wall near the closet. I accidentally bumped it, and the door opened.

It's the red one and it's on the second floor. It's Garden View with two queen beds, a full balcony and is wheelchair accessible. I don't know any specifics about what "wheelchair accessible" means.

That is so good to hear! Hopefully we will have the same experience next month. How was the CL lounge?

Is the floor different in the BC and YC after the remodels? We stayed BC last June. We are doing YC this July. Now I'm worried I should have stayed BC again

We enjoyed it. The breakfast was only slightly different each day but there are a lot of options. Savory included lox (one day a pastrami version) w/ lemon, capers, and red onion. Ham or salami with sliced cheese (good on croissants), hard boiled eggs, and grits. Yogurt and oatmeal with various toppings, pastries/breads, and cold cereal.

Mid-day was fairly basic with granola, crackers, chips, garlic ranch dip, veggies, and hummus.

Early evening apps were quite good! Chicken skewers with a fruit salsa, salmon and lentils (yum), sliced roast/mashed potatoes/cabernet sauce (yum), mascarpone polenta w/ bbq pork (yum). The chicken nuggets were ok. There was a mushroom duxelles in a phyllo cup that was tasty. One favorite that we'll make at home was crostini with ricotta, sliced pear, walnuts, and honey...delicious!

We had dessert a couple of days, but nothing outstanding was served.

5pm was really busy, but it fell off very quickly by 6pm and there were a lot of tables available. Our family of 5, plus JennLTx and her kid, were able to sit together several times. We had a ball!

So, I was wrong about the globe, and my apologies for the confusion (long story). I spoke at length with one of the CMs at the CL desk, and apparently the globe WAS refurbished, and then the powers-that-be decided it wouldn't fit with the new decor.

Excuse me? New decor?

They're re-doing the lobby once all the room refurbs are done. And the CM's understanding is that the new look will be similar to the look of the Ale & Compass Marketplace. A more modern, convention-y hotel appearance.

"In other words," I said, "the complete antithesis of everything we've come to expect from a Disney resort?"

"Yes." He wasn't happy. I know I'm not.

The earliest we'd be back to YC would be 2019, and I would assume this will all be done by then, so I'm going to reserve judgment. While I think I liked A&CM better than some, I don't like it well enough to see it take over that gorgeous lobby.

Anyway, I'll post a more extensive review soon, including view pics from 5170 and thoughts on the AC situation.

Re: Motion sensor on thermostat at YC

Not a concern in our room #5186. We just returned from a YCCL stay and didn't have any issues with the temperature. It stayed cool whether we were in the room, or not.
Same here! And as for how much motion is required, all I needed to do was roll over to set it off.

This news about the lobby makes me sad, we are returning to YC for the first time in 20+ years and was looking forward to seeing the globe again, I have fond memories of my boys and the globe.

Is your sense that the lobby will be under renovation December 2017?
