Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Well looks like we have switched to the Yacht Club. We called to get the Stay Play and Dine discount applied and they were only able to do it if we switched to the Yacht Club. But there's another catch, our room would be club level! So we save money and get club level! So we are now in a standard room club level at the Yacht Club for marathon weekend 1/6-1/11.

So glad to hear that your trip was so magical!

I have no idea how to resize my pictures to make them small enough to post, but I can email them if someone else wants to post them. Sorry!

You can email them to me beachclubdee at yahoo.

If you want to try to resize, here are the instructions I use:

To resize, I make a copy of the picture (because I don't want to affect the original) then open the picture in Paint (or other photo editor) and there is a resize option. I have used both 50 and 25 percent. I click OK in the resize box and then Save in the toolbar. Then I can directly upload the pictures.

If you remember, she doesn't like store-bought cake and I was trying to figure out how to bake her one. Well, I did it! She got a home-baked (from a box) cake! I brought everything down with me and just bought eggs and oil from the Marketplace. Score one for Mommy!

:cheer2:

My son (6, almost 7) lost his first tooth in China!

That happened on one of our trips, too! Extra special!

:teeth:

Besides that good luck, we got to watch Wishes in the distance. Super special! We had no idea that you could see both shows at the same time.

I didn't know that either. What time could you see both?

Thanks so much for sharing the review of your trip!!!

So, general consensus is that if you have a room request, DO NOT do the online check in? Its tempting to just be able to go straight from the ME to our room, but I really, really, really want a full balcony to sit out on and drink my coffee in the morning. That, and to silently sit and drink wine when I need to escape Dr. Jekyll, when he inevitably becomes too Hyde like.

That's what I prefer to do.

It will save time in the long run if you end up going directly to a room and discover the room has one of the smaller balconies and then have to go down to the front desk anyway. Your best bet to discuss the available options is to talk to someone when you check in. If there is not a room available with a full balcony when you check in, they will be able to tell you if one will open up the next day, if you are willing to move.

:thumbsup2

Sounds like a great deal to me!!!

I'll change the info on the Be Our Guest list.

I don't see any reason not to do online check in. Your room is assigned days ahead of time whether you do online check in or not. You will still have to go to the check in desk if you want to change your room whether you do online check in or not. So I like to take my 50% chance of getting a full balcony and hope for the best. :)

We always do online check in because we really like the direct to room option. You can always ask the CM who greets you at the door to check if you got your requests. Then decide if you want to change the room or not. Sometimes not getting your requests gives you a better room than if you got your requests. We got a free upgrade to lagoon view that did not have a full balcony. I was really happy with the upgrade and glad I didn't try to change it. :)

Good morning! I will be following this thread in anticipation of our first YC stay! I'm slowly working my way through all of the wonderful information in this thread. May we be added to Be Our Guest?

Actually, I don't think it is the general consensus. I don't see any reason not to do online check in. Your room is assigned days ahead of time whether you do online check in or not. Like many things, there are lots of ways to look at this. No right or wrong, and it's good to have options!
You make a great point about a possible upgrade, lagoon view is quite nice.
That said, I don't do online check in anymore. It's much easier for us to do a quick confirmation on arrival rather than heading to the room and back again to get something changed. I went through that on a previous vacation to WDW.
I like visiting with the CM, confirming our pretty basic requests, and then we're off to enjoy our vacation. ::yes::

I totally agree with you. :)

But online check in doesn't mean that you aren't allowed to go to the check in desk when you arrive. ;)

I forgot to mention the biggest benefit of online check in and it has nothing to do with room requests (since those are assigned ahead of time). The biggest benefit of online check in is that they know your arrival time ahead of time and that increases the chances of having your room ready when you arrive. Since they started the online check in process we've had our room ready when we arrive, usually around 11am, every time. And that is definitely worth it. :thumbsup2

Ok, back to report on all the good from our vacation. Our trip home ruined my day, but definitely not the great time we had.

We were in a 2-bedroom villa, room 254. It is in the bend looking out at the Villa Pool. We had a balcony that stretched across the three rooms and at the end (middle of the bend), it was about 10 feet deep. We had 7 chairs out there and 3 tables. It was great. The room itself had extra space in the kids' room because of the bend as well. This room also had a bit of a different configuration than other 2-bedroom villas. Instead of when you walk in being able to go to either bedroom, the entrance to the kids' bedroom was through the living room. I have no idea how to resize my pictures to make them small enough to post, but I can email them if someone else wants to post them. Sorry!

Special moments...

My daughter's 9th birthday. If you remember, she doesn't like store-bought cake and I was trying to figure out how to bake her one. Well, I did it! She got a home-baked (from a box) cake! I brought everything down with me and just bought eggs and oil from the Marketplace. Score one for Mommy! That night we went to Biergarten for dinner - her choice. The band didn't mention her name when they sang happy birthday which bummed us all out as we had made note of it on the reservation and again when we arrived for our ADR. No matter, the waitress brought her a card written and signed in German wishing her a happy birthday. This was MUCH better in her opinion - she brought it into school today to show it off. We walked out of the restaurant 5 minutes before Illuminations was going to start and found an empty bench right in front of Germany. Besides that good luck, we got to watch Wishes in the distance. Super special! We had no idea that you could see both shows at the same time.

My son (6, almost 7) lost his first tooth in China! We were starting to think he'd never lose a tooth, so it was quite a surprise when 2 suddenly became loose on our trip. He must have been wiggling them, because all of sudden as we were entering the pavilion, he jumps up and down all excited. Twenty minutes later, he pulled out his second. Luckily the Tooth Fairy found him in the BCV.

Meeting the princesses. Last trip we met most of the princesses at breakfast at Akershus and didn't spend much time waiting in lines to see them again. Well, I can now say that meeting them outside of the restaurant was so different. They were really interactive and made my children so happy. One afternoon, walking back to the resort, Rapunzel just happened to be near the bridge near France/UK. She doesn't normally meet in EPCOT. So, we got in line. When my kids got up there, she was great with them. My son told her that his one sister was his twin and she went on and on telling them how they reminded her of Flynn and Maximus. Then, she told him he should buy a satchel in his favorite color (orange). She was great, but my absolute favorite was Merida. I wanted to meet her because I knew my oldest daughter would love shooting the arrow at her meet and greet. Well, she was hysterical. She hid from my son, told my daughter how her mother always brings her down with all of her rules, and then kissed my son because he was a brave warrior (one of my best pictures of the week!). Then, when my kids asked her questions about her brothers, she told them their names (three Scottish names that she said very quickly and I can't remember!) and about how they sometimes sneak around and eat little cakes to turn into bears and play games. Then, in the parade later in the week, she smiled and pointed at my kids recognizing them. We also met Pocahontas - who people are always telling me that I look like. She was a bit more reserved, but when my husband made me get a picture with her, she told me that I was as wise as Grandmother Willow and thanked me for introducing her to my tribe. It was a lot of fun talking to them all! (We also met Elsa, Anna, and Snow White)

Star Tours - My 6 year old daughter was the one picked to be shown as the Spy. She LOVED that. She kept telling the whole room that she wasn't a spy.

September is a great time to go if you can handle the heat. We had very little rain - which was a change from 2 year ago. Of our 10 days, we only needed our ponchos during 3 of them. Between our long stay - 10 days - and the low crowds, we didn't rush at all. We had plenty of time to do everything we wanted and some things twice. We tried a few restaurants new to us - Captain's Grille, Biergarten, Coral Reef, Via Napoli, Rose & Crown - as well as did Blizzard Beach and Fantasia Mini Golf for the first time with the kids.

Any questions? Hit me up.
What a magical trip you all had! Thanks for telling us all about it. :goodvibes

Thanks so much for all the help with my questions! I have one more, my father stumped me... do the mini refrigerators in the rooms have a freezer section? My parents are bringing cold packs that they'd like to keep frozen for the trip back home.

I've been fighting a sinus headache that feels more like a migraine now, I finally gave in and took meds, and it's slowly getting better. Now it's time to PACK! I'll be on my way to the airport in 12 hours, woohoo!!! YC, here I come!!! :jumping1:
Headaches stink, I hope you had a pain-free flight! Have a magical trip!

Choosing Poly vs BC for next August ain't easy

Ugh. #goodproblemtohave
Agreed! I'm flip flopping (lol) between July and August. A lot will depend on my DHs on-call schedule. DD10 mentioned we should do Poly or YC next year....

I have to disagree about it being the general consensus - sorry Dee. I don't see any reason not to do online check in. Your room is assigned days ahead of time whether you do online check in or not. I agree with you. The benefits of online check in off set any negatives.

You are going to be assigned a room no matter if you do online check in or not. Why not use the feature, add in your requests and give them an idea of what you want and when you will arrive rather than leaving it all to chance?

We always do online check in but never skip going to the check in desk. I like to stop by to make sure everything is in order with cards, bands, etc.

I've been trying to find an answer but can't find enough details about room types on the Standard CL to gather an answer.

First, are there any King beds?
Second, do all the CL rooms have full balconies or is it still 50/50 or so?

I am very excited to be staying at BC for our upcoming trip in October. We have never stayed here before but always wanted to during F&W. This was a last minute anniversary trip that my husband suggested so I jumped into ninja planning mode with very little time. I am trying to reduce the cost of our room stay - I'm not satisfied until I find a deal. Currently we have a 1 bedroom villa for the entire stay. I'm stalking the reservation website for a studio or standard room at BC or YC. I'd rather not stay at the Boardwalk as my kids will enjoy the pool at BC and YC better. I have also checked on DVC rentals for availability - even just a couple of nights during the stay. I did get one night at BC in a standard room with the fall discount but that was the only night available. I've called and asked for passholder discounts, friends & family discounts and Disney visa discounts. Am I missing anything else I could be checking?

According to my notes (pre-renovation), there was only 1 BC CL SV room with a King Bed. Not sure if any of the bedding configuration changed since then or not.

Most, but not all, of the BC CL SV rooms have full balconies. I think there were only 3-4 out of almost 38 rooms that have the smaller balconies.

I don't have this info posted anywhere since it is been based on info provided by guests and I don't have any direct backup on the figures.

:thumbsup2

Thanks. Makes sense. I don't expect a king bed but figure I'll put it down just in case the stars align
