Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I would say it depends on what time you want to do breakfast. If it's not too early, just take a bus to the park closest to the resort where you wish to eat, then take a bus from there to the resort. Uber is always an option if you want a quicker trip.

Is anyone who's there now able to send some pics of the construction progress on the children's water play area? It should be just about ready to open I think, but news has been very quiet on that front. If it's easier, I've got a Dropbox link that lets you send photos from your phone or whatever (https://www.dropbox.com/request/p2r7CU2bYsNnnIazAeAM).

We will be staying here for NYE 2016 (yes I already booked, Im kind of a planner :rolleyes1) hence my question.....

We will be checking out on Sunday 1/1 and do not have plans to go to the parks that day (flight leaves at 5pm) - any suggestions on an easy way to get to another resort for breakfast?

Quickest and easiest, taxi. Cheapest, take a bus to a park then bus, boat or monorail from that park to resort #2.

I heard its hard to get to another resort from FQ, so Im open to suggestions - Im guessing it would be a buffet, but we're not picky, just a sit down place is fine.

Thanks!

It's not just POFQ, it is not exactly easy to go from resort to resort unless they are within walking distance.

Planning another September trip. We were traitors and took advantage of a deal to try out the Polynesian this past September. And even though we loved the rooms, convenience of monorail, and nicer TS options, we are still coming back to FQ this September. Overall we (my wife especially surprisingly) just enjoyed FQ more. We loved the grounds, the size, and the QS/snack options and it just feels like home to us.

I haven't been following the news on here at all, so just discovered that Disney is putting in a water playground feature here now as well! That just bumps FQ up IMO times infinity!!! My DSW and DS's are gonna be stoked. They loved the Polynesian one and the December picture looks good of this one as well. Even though the size won't be the same, having both this and a dry playground puts a big plus in the pro FQ column! Other than maybe an updated hot tub or hot tub view at least, I couldn't think of anyway the FQ could get better!

It's hard to get between any WDW resorts using the bus service, it's not a particular problem for POFQ.

It depends on where you are going: if the Contemporary, get the bus to the MK and walk. If the Poly or GF get the bus to the MK and then monorail (or ferry boat if they are running by that time, which would work for Wilderness Lodge/Fort Wilderness too). Yacht/Beach/Boardwalk area you can get a bus to Studios and take the ferry boat from there, but you're already starting to get into the territory of a cab being easier/quicker. For all others (apart from possibly Disney Springs) definitely get a cab.

Thanks everyone for the responses- I didn't realize it was getting from any resort to another resort was challenging-so looks like Kona Cafe would be a good choice- take the bus to MK then the resort monorail. I plan to leave an hour for transportation. Hopefully on New Years Day people wont be up quite so early!

If you are thinking about MK after breakfast, in addition to Kona, you may also be interested in Chef Mickey at the Contemporary (not sure if you have kids, but its a Mickey and friends character buffet - and yes, the times I've been there, we were just adults!!), or the 1900 Park Fair in Grand Floridian (also a buffet character buffet - but great! Again, our party was all adults). These are also on the monorail, but you could walk from MK to the Contemporary (and back) rather than waiting for a crowded monorail that stops at the other resorts and the ticket center.

Personally, I like buffets as you have more choices and can get in and out at your own pace, rather than waiting for service.

I didnt even think of that- no kids with us, and we are not going to the parks that day- so Chef Mickey might be a great way to end the trip- and we can walk there too! Great suggestion! Thanks!

Just to be clear, you would still need to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom, but then you can walk to and from Contemporary...

I've got some on my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/portorleans.org/) which were taken on Saturday. Sadly it doesn't seem to me as though much progress has been made since the photos taken at the end of December, and I very much doubt it will be ready to open today, or even in the next week or two to be honest. Still, sometimes these things turn out to surprise us.

We were googling for pictures, and found that page yesterday. Pool looks good... we're not going until end of Feb. so hopefully it's done by then!

So just a wild stab in the dark here, but I'm guessing from today's photos (www.portorleans.org/rehab.php) that this isn't going to be ready to open by 19 January... or indeed any time in January, come to that:

Based on what I saw looking thru the fence in mid-November it looks like they took a month off

Hi guys! I'm a newbie to this thread. I'm debating between FQ and POR, but we're leaning towards FQ because of compact size and the alligators (dd is 4 and loves the photos).
The only drawback is that it seems that POR is the one that gets discounts, while FQ does not? Are there any ways to get any type of discount there? Thanks!
