Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

With a 10:35 arrival time, you should get to POR by noon. If there's minimal waiting at check-in (or you've done online check-in) and all you want to do is drop off your carry-ons (either in the room if it's ready or with Bell Services if it's not) and you don't want to get some lunch first (although, that's my typical arrival time and I do) you should be able to be in MK by 1:00. It would probably be safer to figure 2:00.

If my flight is due to arrive in Orlando at 10:35am, and we plan to take DME, about what time should we expect to arrive at POR? At what time could we expect to make it to MK? I know there are no guarantees, but I am trying to do some tentative planning and having an idea on times would help tremendously!!

You could be at the resort in as little as an hour if everything goes your way, but I'd suggest allowing 1.5-2 hours to be safe. If you've done online checkin and already have your magic bands, and head straight to the park without going to the front desk or your room first, you might be in the park in as little as 2 hours from touchdown, although 2.5-3 would be more likely. But that's assuming everything goes your way and no one wants trivial things like toilet breaks, food, etc.

Returning to POFQ in October 2016 for a birthday celebration for DD and a coming home trip from overseas for DS. LOVE the great information on this thread and over at portorleans.org. Thank you so much for your time and effort!!!!

63 days until our first trip as a family of 3, and our first stay at POFQ! Has anyone stayed recently with a small child? How difficult is the room to semi-babyproof? We have a very busy 14 month old! And where is the best location to place the pack-n-play? We're bringing our from home, and thought we could put it where the connecting door wold be, would that work?

Just returned from our Christmas visit with DD. Weather was hot hot hot! Only had the chance to dip in the pool a quick minute because we were so busy. The kids pool area is still under construction but I think it should be ready soon. I faxed a request for building 5 but we were put in building 7. :( I really hate that location. Lol. But the room was ready, so we took it.

We did not eat at the "Scat Cat Cafe" but did peek in. Looks very pretty. I couldn't remember what the old restaurant looked like, so I can't compare. The atmosphere was lovely. But the limited offering didn't appeal to us. I'd like to see them keep this area open, with a larger menu.

Boat service to Disney Springs was frustrating - waited 20 minutes and when boat arrived, only 3 seats available because Riverside guests filled the boat first. Then had to wait another 20 minutes. I think we might take the bus next time.

For those inquiring about towel art, we had a Mickey on the bed when we arrived. ::MickeyMo

60 days! First trip and staying at POFQ!! I just have to shout it somewhere :)
Shout away! We are only 17 days away and I wanna shout too! We have never stayed there before either.

The kids pool area is still under construction but I think it should be ready soon.
I think I read that there were scheduling to open it on the day after we arrive (MLK day). Curious to see it, although I have nothing to compare it to, and also don't know if it will be warm enough for the kids to swim in mid-Jan anyway.

Can you tell me why you prefer Building 5 over Building 7? Just the distance? We were in POR earlier this month and ended up in Building 24, so I think that even Building 7 will be closer for the walking when we go to POFQ (first time!) in May. :hyper:

When during the day did you go to Disney Springs? When we were at POFQ in November from late afternoon (4-5:00ish) we didn't share with POR coming or going back.
It was something they had just started a month or so earlier and it was great . We did share earlier in the day.
We finally got Building 7 last trip and liked it. We had Riverview so since we go up to POR several times a trip it was a plus for us (opposite of last year when we had Building 1 Riverview, which still wasn't bad)

Currently scheduled to re-open 19 January, but that is subject to change of course.

Happy New Year everyone! So excited to say we only have 63 more days till our first stay at POFQ! We've still managed to keep the secret from DS, thought we'll probably have to tell him once the magic bands arrive- when the ones for his brother came in the mail he knew exactly what they were and insisted on being the one to open them.

Older DS and his girlfriend just stayed at POFQ the week before Christmas and loved it. I was hesitant about them going at that time, especially since we've always been during slower times so DS is spoiled. But it was the only time she could be off from college and he would have time off from Air Force tech school. DH said they might as well go because who knows when they'll be able to go again, since DS hadn't gotten his duty assignment yet. (turns out he's being stationed in Florida, so I see many more Disney trips in his future) His GF actually said it was less crowded than when she went in May with her parents, and they never had to wait more than 10 minutes for any transportation. They had a 3rd floor river view in building 5 that looked amazing. Mousekeeping was great too, they got a Mickey towel on the first day, and DS had a few little Toy Story figures he left out that were always arranged differently when they got back, which they loved. They both enjoyed breakfast twice at Sassagoula and split the breakfast platter once- it is a lot of food they said. Overall they thought their stay was magical!

We went to the dock around 11:15 AM... Planned on shopping a little before our 1:30 lunch reservations.

I feel Building 7 is out of the way. I really like the centralized location of Building 5 to the pool, food court, shop, and bus stops. It's nice to grab a quick cup of tea or sprint to the room in the rain. Just our preference. :earsgirl:[/
