Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

I love unique and interesting foods. I get so tired of plain chicken and burgers and pizza.

I like variety as well (though I'm fine with basic food and prefer it sometimes). I usually only have one or two meals at the resort. I mostly eat in the parks or I try some of the resort cs's that have unique items.

Exactly. I would not choose to eat at a resort QS that did not have something interesting available. The new menu makes me want to have lunch or dinner a couple of times at the resort.

I might have to try some of this...

I see that they at least used to have a tuna sandwich too. I wonder if it's anything like the heavenly version at CHH?

I had the tuna sandwich and I did not like it at all. I don't remember why, but I think there was something in there that didn't make sense to me, possibly too much mayo.

I really liked the make your own salad with chicken (it was HUGE) and the rotisserie chicken that came with potatoes and green beans.

We have reservations for a standard pool view room, but in my online check in I requested 50's building, lake view. Will they be able to fulfill that request with our room category? Seems like "pool view" and "lake view" are opposites.

From all the info that I have read, they can't downgrade you to accommodate your requests. They can upgrade you but not downgrade you. Someone with more confirm info may chime in to confirm or correct this info.
Have you thought about calling to see if you can downgrade to a standard room? All lake view are standard rooms.
The only online check in options that are really available when you book a standard pool view room is an era (50's, 60's,70's, etc) and a floor and maybe "near transportation" (not sure where that would get you, maybe building 1 or 9:confused3). The other options are mute point. I'm not sure if Disney can reset your on line check in requests but it is worth a try, if all standard rooms are full. The standard pool view rooms are highlighted in green on this map (buildings 1,2 or 3 in the 50's), which gives you an idea of where the standard pool rooms are located in the 50's era that you requested. If they try and honor your request, you may get a little bit of a lake view in building 2 when you stand out on your balcony/walkway and look to the right. We had a 2nd floor standard room in building 2 during one of our trips and we could see the lake from the balcony/walkway.

Thanks for the info. "Lakeview" was a choice when I did the check in which is why I was confused. It's not a deal breaker for us, the pool or lakeview is fine, but I'd prefer lake.

The make your own nachos are delicious (lunch only, though). Buffalo chicken flatbread was great (but as stated, quite spicy). We had the sesame chicken a few times and enjoyed it (you can choose your own sides, which includes stuff like mashed potatoes, so don't feel like you're limited to the default ones all the time). Create your own salads are very good, too. And this is just generally speaking, but they'll usually customize just about any menu item, so don't be afraid to ask for something that's different than described, like leaving specific ingredients out of a flatbread or burger. Some items (like certain sandwiches) are already pre-made with everything on them, but it never hurts to ask.

We had free dining, so it was a little easier ("cheaper") to experiment with things we weren't sure we'd like. Most of our meals were at the parks or Disney Springs, though, since there are so many great QS options. And just FYI, if you do have the dining plan, most shops and restaurants were able to do the 1 QS trade in for 3 snacks (when purchased at the same time). This came in very handy as we always seemed to have way more QS meals than we could handle, but always wanted more snack credits to try out various treats. Dole Whips, the bakery in France (Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie -- has some amazing pastries for a snack credit and does the 3 for 1), Karamell Kuche in Germany (all sorts of caramel treats). Make sure to ask if they'll do the 3 for 1 and then go nuts on those expensive snacks.

With technology today and all the changes that Disney has made in the MDE, on-line check in, etc you would think they would isolate the on-line check in based on the room category you are booked, to avoid this exact thing.

We're talking about Disney's IT department here. Give them a few years to figure it out.

This is another reason why we skip the room request section during online check in. The options are predetermined, very limited and are the exact same no matter what category you book. Because of the last point people end up making a room request that they simply cannot get with their room category and now they've wasted a room request.

That picnic burger comment made me laugh out loud--when I was stationed in Germany with the Air Force, the only food to order on midshifts (overnight) was from a place called Pizza Attack--basically whatever the German restaurant thought American pizza was. People would always trick the newest members of our flight into getting the "American" pizza--it had hot dogs, pickles, ketchup, mustard, onions, curry, and ---well I don't know because it was exactly like you said above, terrifying. Thank God I always brought my lunch!! :D

Thats funny we have been stationed in Germany for the last Five years now and I can stand the pizza on the economy. They love to put some nasty stuff on their pizzas. Lets not for get Eggs on the pizza. Yuck! We stick to the Pizza Hut on base.

  • HA!! Oh man I still (vividly) remember my first trip to Venice... A calzone? In Italy? YES! ----NOOOO. Raw egg inside as one of the "normal" toppings.
PS I'm jealous, Germany is so phenomenal. Every season is awesome w/ festivals and such, but the Christmas Markets...dang it! :) enjoy! thanks for serving!

Friends of ours are going to Pop for the first time tomorrow and I just got a text asking about groceries.

I assume it is too late to use Garden Grocer, but I am wondering - does the Pop Food Court have chocolate milk (they go through a ton!), bread, and cheese? Thanks!

They will be able to get 1/2 gallons of chocolate milk, bread and cheese in the shopping section of Everything Pop.

Just curious, The buffalo chicken flatbread, is the sauce a true buffalo wing sauce, like that franks hot sauce vinegar taste? I love spicy but I'm not to fond of that vinegar taste but I was really curious to try this.
Thank you for the 1QS trade in for 3 snacks update!

I used the three snacks for one counter service meal, too. Swapping things was great at POP. We would get one entree to split and two desserts. I also would swap my morning drink for a bag of trail mix or Minnie Bake Shoppe cookie. As far as substitutions with the dining plan, POP knew what they were doing. Other resorts tried to push the beverage when we had our mugs. We would ask a food court manager and then we were able to get something other than the beverage.

Anyone know if there's a picture somewhere of what-all is available (grocerywise) in the shopping section of Everything Pop?

It seemed like your fairly standard "hot wing" sauce (I think Franks or Louisiana Hot Sauce are pretty good comparisons). Quite spicy and just a little bit of that vinegar tang. Mostly I noticed the spice.

The only other resort we ate at was Contemporary (Contempo cafe), and the CM let us substitute a different snack item instead of a drink (we brought our mugs). This was end of Sept. I think the snack subbing in a QS meal concept is still somewhat new, and newer or less experienced CMs don't know how to put it into the computer. We were fairly successful at POP and the parks by using a QS for one "entree" and then any 2 snack items on the menu. Sometimes instead of a dessert we'd get a bottled drink or a slush, and most of the time the CM knew already what we were asking. Disney Springs / Downtown Disney seemed to be the place where they were more strict in their allowances.

I have looked through and seen some laundry posts (<3 the link for the "available washers!") but not sure what everyone does for detergent. We are going for a week (!) and with 5 kids, we'll need to wash at least some stuff! Do you bring your own from home, is there some to buy in the laundry room, or at everything pop? thanks!!
