Hey! I'm a she!
Hi, my name is Lisa *waves*.
I agree with you here! Every generation has their 'rebels,' and this thread no matter what point of view one has, certainly has it's share of "rebels" with a cause
"Point for CountingTheDays"I am a non-smoker and I always avoid a designated smoking area and, if possible, walk around it so the breeze does not blow it toward me. I am all for smoking areas.
The debate comes from not being able to enjoy what you paid for due to anothers inconsiderations. If I cannot use my balcony because you won't stop smoking, even when I ask is rude. It would be just as rude for a non-smoker to sit in the smoking area and yell at all the smokers to stop.
I have been walking out of the park and see people lighting up and walking. The exit route is not a smoking area and there are so many people somebody could (and this happened to a friend's daughter (not at Disney)) get hurt.
And I don't think your attacks are fake, any more than mine are. I'm not calling you a liar so that must be directed to someone else.

Why should the time of day matter?
Anne
Lisa, with my profound apologies, I will edit my post. It's nice to meet you.Hey! I'm a she!![]()
Hi, my name is Lisa *waves*.
Thank you. I'm a she, too!Well played sir (madam?) ! Well played !

Well it has been interesting, but I am out. Got to go pack and get ready. We leave for WDW at 4:00 am tomorrow, and then off for our 1st Wonder trip on Sunday. I am hoping I get blessed with minimal if no 2nd hand smoke and we all stay healthy. (oh and great weather too, I guess I am asking for a lot.)![]()
A smoker chooses to take on the risks associated with smoking. But a non-smoker doesn't have the same choice. Second hand smoke has been proven even more dangerous then first hand smoke.
So why do the rights of smokers trump the rights of non-smokers? Why should my health be endangered just because you chose to endanger yours? Why should I have to avoid certain places because you choose to smoke?
I have asthma, my daughter has asthma, and it's severe enough that a smokey room can lead to an extended hospital stay. So smokers arent' just endangering their lives they are endangering my life. How is that fair?
What you are suggesting is that I wake my caregiver up and ruin her holiday as well. I am merely pointing out the fact that although Disney and myself are doing everything in their power to help a disabled person (me), there are still people, like me, who it means is forced to give up, risk their health (I'm not explaining the walking thing) or stay off-site. The point was in response as to be 'welcome'. I am choosing the risk and the rules. I am not being selfish. People have said smokers have the choice, with the new rules, I don't have the luxury of a choice. Make sense?

Lisa, with my profound apologies, it's nice to meet you.
I will edit my post.

No. You don't need to wake up your caregiver. You can rent an ECV and get yourself to the DSA when you want a smoke.
You just don't seem to want to look at your options and accomodate yourself.

What kind of a car do you drive?
You know that a gas guzzling SUV/minivan/truck produces more air pollution in one year than 3 cigarette smokers over the course of their lifetimes.
I find it funny that so many neo-nazi anti-smoking fanatics Drive these Gigantic 10-12MPG vehicles, but have the balls to talk about how they're breathing in second hand smoke. Funny as hell.
Sorry, but you don't know what medications I am on to make the assumption that I could hire an ECV. So, no, I can't. I have already looked at my options, thank you very much. You are coming up with these ideas that I already thought about.
That is rather offensive as you know nothing about me or my disability.
I will say it again: there are people that will fall through the cracks, you don't have to acknowledge that it will happen, but it doesn't change the fact.

Most smokers don't admit a lot of things they do. Like flicking butts out the car window instead of using the ashtray that came with their car. Like leaving lighters laying around within reach of the kids. Like smoking in areas where they are well aware they shouldn't be smoking. Like taking those extra breaks at work to get their fixes. I am certain that there are responsible and decent folks out there who smoke, but most of the smokers I know do bend the rules and don't think twice about it. These are nice people who would not throw a kleenex out the car window but don't think twice about throwing a lit cigarette out. So, yes, smokers have a very bad reputation with me and I am more likely to believe that smokers are going to break the rules than follow them. I would love to be proven wrong.

As a former asthma sufferer I can tell you that you are killing a hell of a lot more people/children/animals/wildlife from your car exhaust than a cigarette smoker will ever be able to do.
Oh, BTW, Alcohol Related deaths are about 10000 times more prevalent than people dying specifically from second hand smoke.
I'm a non-smoker, and I think non-smoking rooms are fine. Designated areas are fine, as long as there are enough of them. This country is throwing away too many of it's freedoms, and one of those freedoms is the Pursuit of Happiness. If it makes a smoker happy, then technically, they have the right to do it.
If you don't like that freedom, then move.
One of the reasons why I like going to Disney is because there are so many foreigners there. You can always tell the difference between a Foreigner and an American at the Disney Parks. The Foreigners are nice. The Americans walk around with a false sense of entitlement and are generally extremely rude, but I suppose this is what we get for idolizing the likes of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

We have three cars. None are SUV's. Between them we average 37 mpg. The worst of them gets over 26 mpg. We're considering trading one of the cars in for a hybrid SUV that gets better milage than the car does.
We also maintain our cars for optimum eficiency and minimal emmissions.
