Smoke Free Policy at Disney Resorts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

Has anyone on these boards hear the news? I just called to make a ressy for September for the Free Dining, and the cast member told me that effective June 1, 2007 that all Disney Resorts will be Smoke Free, that no one can smoke anywhere on the resort grounds only in special areas, not even on your own patio or balconey, and that if anyone is caught smoking in their room or patio or balconey you will be charged anywhere from $250.00 - $500.00 fine and put on your room bill. I am a non smoker so doesn't really bother me, smoke doesn't bother me like some folks maybe due to the fact my Husband is a light smoker about 10 cigs a day. This policy will kill him. Just thought I would share the news as I am sure would make some board members happy and some not so happy.

How weird...weren't we just talking about the possibility of the WDW resorts going smoke-free, like, just last week? I said it on that thread and I'll say it here, once Marriott garnered rave reviews for going smoke-free last year, you knew the rest of the industry would follow...Disney included. If it makes sense financially, Disney will typically be 100% on board.

All I can say is    :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

My mom smoked from the time she was 18 until she was forced to quit at 55. She spent the the remaining 6 years on oxygen and died from COPD and emphysema attributed to smoking. It was a horrible thing to witness. I despise smoking and smelling cigarette smoke. Hopefully the threat of severe fines will curtail the smoking in non smoking rooms, from balconies and in non designated areas.:thumbsup2

Not reported on the DIS main page or Allears. Wonder it it's true, wishful thinking or pot stirring?

Nosey Rosey here. I just called WDW and they said it's true that by June 1,all hotels will be smoke free. Hopefully, they'll enforce this better than the Heelie thing.

Orlando Sentinel have it as a main story so must be official.

Claire ;)

That's awesome!!! Hopefully they will enforce it!

That's great news. However, it is very difficult to keep people from smoking inside of their hotel rooms.

I know it won't be easy to enforce, but YEAY YEAY YEAY! We always have to ask for non-smoking for medical reasons...now we won't have to and we can actually make location our #1 request :thumbsup2

I'm sure that come June 1, we'll all be signing a waiver at check in that gives Disney permission to charge our credit card a penalty if they determine that the room has been smoked in. Besides, the smokers that I know are good, law abiding citizens who wouldn't dream of smoking in their rooms if the rules were stated as such.

Excellent. No more worries about getting a non-smoking room. It won't help me on my May trip, but it will for December!!!

This is great news! No more making non-smoking our first reservation request. :thumbsup2

BAH HUMBUG!!!!

I don't know what to do about my upcoming trip now.....guess I could ask for a room close to the desinated smoking area at CBR - DH is a smoker, he doesn't smoke in hotel rooms even if they are smoking rooms but likes to sit outside the room (like on a balcony) and smoke.

Now we will have just that bigger of a cloud of smoke to walk through to get into the buildings. They always at most places put the ashtrays right at the entrance I can see Disney doing the same thing.

DW smokes and likes to sit out on the Balcony and smoke as well. She is only an outside smoker (doesn't smoke in the house or car).

We will see how this effect Hotel bookings before they make the change. They can charge your CC all they want but a quick disput and they will have to have you on tape to prove you did it.

I wonder how this will effect the DVC resorts as well.

That's what I was thinking.

Aren't the Non-Smokers going to hate the fact that wherever there is a designated smoking place it will be covered in smoke clouds?

Yup I'll take 20 people smoking spread out on their balconies then 20 people all standing smoking together anyday.

My real biggest concerns are we just keep letting people dictate what freedoms can just be taken away at anytime. Whats next no more car driven on Property as they are a threat to socity as well. They already tried to take away our FrenchFries now the smoking.
