Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

Can you use the DME the day before checking out of your resort? We plan on going back to the MCO to pick up a car rental and drive to Ft. Lauderdale when checking out the next day?

Taking a cruise from there, returning the car the following day of the start of the cruise and then flying home ourselves from Ft. Lauderdale after the cruise.

Has anyone used DME the day before departure. All we need is the bus ride back to the MCO Airport, they will not have to touch our bags?

Not a problem. My dh has used DME to get back to the airport before our stay was done. Just let the front desk know that you need to head back early...they will give you a pickup time. I'm assuming that only one of you is riding back?? That way everyone else can just stay put.

My wife knows the roads better then me, most likely she will go with me, will that be a problem ?, also won't they think it's a little strange and say something if we aren't carrying any bags back to the airport?

Number one, you won't be "getting away" with anything, what you'd be doing is totally allowed and totally legitimate, so there will be no need for anyone to look at you askance in any way. Number two, there are lots of people who fly without any carry-ons whatsoever ... it astounds me, but it's true.

Sorry I could not find this myself, but does anyone have the phone # for DME? I need to request additional luggage tags..... Thanks!

DME packets generally arrive 4-5 weeks prior to travel.

I received my tags in the mail today however, I think I only received one tag per person. Is each yellow "strip" one tag or two? If it is only one can a request more?

That is correct, they are sending one tag per person, and each yellow strip is one tag (you fold it around the handle and stick it together at the ends).

If you need more you will need to call and request them.

(They used to send more tags per person by default, but it changed to one per person.)

I booked thru AAA, can I call them direct for extra luggage tags? Or will I hve to have AAA call them??

Not sure, but I would try calling directly. I don't think that would be an issue since it's not related to changes to your package.

Spoke with Disney at (407) 939-6244 they informed us that each person gets ONE yellow luggage tag for the Disney Magical Express. We were a bit confused because we get two luggage tags for our cruise but I guess the cruise and the WDW resorts are two different animals. If you want another DME luggage tag, you will have to request it at the DME Welcome Center when you arrive at MCO. Once you get the extra DME tags, you have to hunt down your luggage at baggage claim and attach the yellow DME tags to those bags that are sans yellow tags. No real explanation as to why they only give you one, just that this is how they handle additional requests for DME luggage tags. Big time shoulder shrug :confused3

Um, that's pretty much incorrect. You only get one tag now because the airlines started charging for bags and guests started bringing much fewer bags. The second tag was getting tossed in many cases. So, DME started sending just the one tag...that seems to be sufficient for the majority of guests. If you do need addtl tags, you just call DME (phone number is in the booklet)..they will send you addtl tags in the mail as long as you let them know far enough in advance.

I can't imagine why anyone would be told that they would have to go to DME checkin, get a new tag and then go back to baggage claim to tag their bag. If you have an untagged bag, this is the proceedure. You go to DME checkin. You let them know that you have untagged checked baggage. They will ask you for the number of bags, the description of the bags (will show you photo sheet of types of bags), and ask for the baggage claim receipts to make copies. They will then send a DME CM to baggage claim to get your bag(s), and that person will get the bags to the DME baggage area for transport to the appropriate resort.

you have to hunt down your luggage at baggage claim and attach the yellow DME tags to those bags that are sans yellow tags.

If you are retrieving your own bags anyway, there's no point in attaching the yellow tags. Where do they go next? You might as well take them with you on the bus, as you are allowed to do. You aren't required to tag your bags unless you want to skip baggage claim -- that is what the tags are for.
