Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

We'll be staying in a Cabin the last full week in September. We have 8:05 AM reservations for Cindy's and we want to enjoy the scenery before we eat breakfast. What is the best way to get to MK with plenty of time to spare?

Just posted more than 40 photos of the refurbed cabins on my site.
Thank you so much for the photo tour! Though I'm a little sad about the Murphy bed being changed to a sofa sleeper. DH and I were planning on taking the living room and putting the kids in the bedroom. Not sure how comfortable we'll be on a sofa bed, but I guess queen sized is better than full sized.

Looking forward to our first stay at FW - thank you Free DDP!

Can anyone let me know if the horse carriage rides are worth it? I feel like my daughters would love it!!! We are spending one night at wilderness lodge on our arrival day before going to beach club. Our plan is to check in there and go swimming and have lunch and then boat over to the campground to walk around and have dinner at Trails End. We then wanted to do a horse carriage ride before the camp fire :)

The sofa-bed was pretty comfortable. It was like a foamy mattress and you didn't feel the bars underneath like most sofa-beds. My husband and I were both really impressed with it.

We have booked to come for 2 weeks to FW cabins over Christmas. It will be me, my dh, ds 10, ds 7, dd 5 and ds 4. We are hiring a car but the cost of the golf buggies is too much for us as we would need 2. I want to request a good location, ideally near to a restaurant for qs dining and to refill our drinks mugs. Where should we request? We have never stayed at FW before only PO so it's all new for us but very exciting!
FW does have some golf carts that have 3 benches. I've read that you can't reserve those specifically ahead of time but you can request it when you arrive. You could possibly fit everyone on 1 regular cart if the kids are little.
FW doesn't have the usual qs like other resorts. At the pool, there is a snack bar with pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches, etc and a mug station. At Trails End there is a mug station and they have take out for breakfast and dinner that is categorized as qs. None of the cabin loops are particularly close to either location. Loop 2200 would be the closest to the Meadows pool but still a good 15 minute walk away. There's always the option of using the internal busses to get around. The take out place is at the settlement which is near the boat dock area. Another option is to take the boat to either the wilderness lodge or the contemporary resort for QS. Not exactly convenient though.

Check out this thread for more info about the campground. There's a map on the thread too.

Also the camping at Disney world forum is a great spot to find out about the campground.

Hey everyone, I'm booked for a cabin at Fort Wilderness in October. I know there is one spot for a car, but a friend of ours will be joining us later in the trip for 2 nights. Is there any place they can park their car? Or any suggestions any of you Disney experts have? Thanks for your help!

They should park in the front. Not that I'm saying I haven't seen more than 1 car per site, but Disney says 1 car per site.

We recently spent 1 night in the cabins and I wish we would have stayed there longer... It was probably my favorite part of our 10day trip. I'm not sure when we will be back to Disney (for various reasons)... But when we do go back I want to stay here. The cabin was great... And the atmosphere around the resort is amazing. My kids loved riding around on the golf carts! I wish it hadn't taken us so many years to discover this place

I do not believe they rent by the week. I think the rate was about 20/day and the time they had to be back was 5 pm. You might want to check and see if an off-site company rents them for cheaper. You could also see about buying some from a local site and see if you could sell them at the end to a sporting company that does resells.

For a 2 week trip, you should drive to Walmart and buy bikes. A golf cart rental is cheaper than renting bikes for a family.

Whoo, I have had an insane week that resulted in all our plans changing. Instead of five nights in the Cabins at Halloween, we are now spending 10 nights in December with free dining. I'm excited, but cancelations and re-bookings are no fun. Looking forward to visiting the WL to see their decorations.

We stayed at the Cabins last Nov and had our van and my inlaws' car. We initially brought both cars the cabin to unload all the luggage but had to rush out to an ADR the first night we were there and both cars ended up staying parked outside. We were there a week and no one ever said anything so we just left them there. There was plenty of room for both of them and we weren't causing any parking problems for neighboring cabins so we didn't think it was a big deal. Of course, if they had asked us to move one we would have. My inlaws car has a handicap tag so maybe that's why nothing was ever said? IDK. Techinically you're only supposed to have one parked at the cabin and any other vehicles parked at the front.

We are planning to arrive early on our first day, check our luggage, and head to MK to burn some FP+.

How long should I anticipate it taking to get from FW to MK on the boat at around 12:00 p.m.? We expect it to be highly busy, as we are arriving on Memorial Day.

Thanks for any information!

One the boat gets there you can plan on it taking 10-15 minutes of actual travel time. At busy times of day it can take 5-10 minutes get everyone aboard the boat as well.

We are coming to stay at the Fort in a cabin 6/25-7/2 and have a pre-park opening ADR at Epcot on Friday, 7/1 @ 8:20 am. Can someone tell me the quickest/best way to get there and how much time it may take? If taking a cab is best, how much $ approx would that be? We've always taken Disney transportation (we will not have a car).

Thank you!!

Anyone know how long I can wait to book a golf cart? I'm not sure if we'll need it, and it's a fair expense I'd rather spend on fishing and archery and pony rides. But I'm worried that I'll decide I want one, and they'll all be booked. Especially since we would want one with three rows as we're a party of six.

Book it now, they don't charge you until the day of and they are sold out a lot. If you want to wait and see if you'll "need" it, reserve it for the 2nd day you're there, and then cancel if you feel like you won't need it the next day.

You CAN'T reserve a 3-row, they are rented on a first come basis. We had 3A and 3C and all fit on 1 regular cart.

Yes, we have for at least the past 2 years from DisneyRoomAlts. The text shows your room and loop info.
