Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

We are thinking of booking a cabin for November, have never stayed there, and am worried about having only one bathroom. If we rent a golf cart, would it be a total pain for some of us to use the showers in the comfort stations? Is there a loop or cabin I should request to be close to one? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

We have never stayed at the Fort, but I think we would love it. I am thinking of booking a cabin in November for our family of 4 adults and two children. The only thing that scares me is having only 1 bathroom. Is there a loop or cabin that is near a comfort station for the campground? We could maybe at least shower there at night? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ETA Sorry for the double post!

Can you hear the music for Wishes from the beach?

Yes, you can hear Wishes from the beach/marina. And although the view is obstructed by distance/trees, you can see many of the higher fireworks.

2100 cabin loop is closest to the 1100 camper's comfort station, however I believe they are going to turn 2100 into camping sites. If you can't get into 2100 - I would request 2200 & 2300 as next best choice. The only difference is that you will have to cross one of the main roadways to get there, but walking is not bad at all.

The music for Wishes is piped in so it's loud and clear! It's awesome and a great way to spend the evening. Best schedule is Electrical Water Pageant at 9:45 and Wishes at 10.

Hi all,
I am considering staying in the cabins for 2 weeks next year (June or July). They look great. My only concern is how easy it is to get around resort internally. We will have a car, and I know we can park in front of cabin. Driving to the parks is fine for us also.
We plan on going for 2 weeks and wonder how easy it is to get to pool for swimming or to store, waterfront area. We don't want to rent a golf cart.

Really? They're going to tear down the cabins there? Where did you hear that?

It depends on if you are interested in walking, biking, or using the bus for getting around, plus which loop you are in. For the most part, the Settlement is the farthest from the cabins so walking would be a bit far. Getting to the Meadows area would not be too bad from some of the loops. If you are comfortable with riding bikes and have space to bring them, that is an enjoyable way to get around the Fort.

As for buses, for the most part they are not too bad, but you need to learn the system of them and know it might take a bit of time depending on where at the Fort you are going.

Thank you! I wish the cabins were closer to the main area.
We will be renting a car, not driving down, so we won't be able to bring bikes. Can we rent bikes there on a weekly basis?

I do not believe they rent by the week. I think the rate was about 20/day and the time they had to be back was 5 pm. You might want to check and see if an off-site company rents them for cheaper. You could also see about buying some from a local site and see if you could sell them at the end to a sporting company that does resells.

Thank you!. I will look into that. The only thing keeping me from booking is the large size of the campground. We are staying at POR this year, and we were at WL last. My boys loved WL and they love the outdoors, so I think they will love the feel of the cabins....and I will appreciate the extra space. I suppose, with a car, I can purchase groceries...thereby eliminating the need to be near store.

For those who have rented an RV (I looked at the links at the beginning of the thread) which is your favorite company?

Hello! I was wondering.. how obvious is it that you're at Disney as you enter Ft Wilderness? Besides the signs all over Orlando/Lake Buena Vista lol. We're surprising DD with her first visit and trying to decide when to drop the news! Right now she knows we're going to on a family vacation in a cabin with a swimming pool and horses nearby. :)

Very excited as we just decided to add on 3 nights at the Cabins to our trip this fall. DH and I stayed at WL last October and enjoyed it. We excited to take our family of 5 to FW. We will have a rental car and will likely drive to HS and EP. Since we can park at the cabin I'm thinking we don't need a golf cat for such a short trip. We might use it one day to get to the boat for MK. Lots of great info here :-)

If you go in via World Drive, it is extremely noticeable (below is an image from street view - Google Maps):

Note that you would enter through the lanes to the right, but left of the last lane that all the buses use.

If you come the back way, avoiding the normal WDW places such as Disney Springs, you will still have some signs, but not as many. When you arrive at Fort Wilderness, the sign does indicate "Disney's Fort Wilderness ...", but the "Disney" is small. Now, once at Fort Wilderness, there are many subtle points to being at WDW.

Now, after writing all of that, I just realized the biggest thing that screams WDW is all of the WDW buses driving around on-site.

I find that driving to all the parks, except MK, is very easy from FW, especially with parking directly at your cabin. For such a short trip, and with it it looking like you have some time planned at HS & EP, I would think you should be fine without a golf cart. I know that our first trip to FW, we only rented a golf cart for a few days, but that was because we were hanging out at FW on those days. On our other two trips, we did rent for the whole time, but we do a lot of down time at FW during those trips.

I am debating on a trip to WDW late this year or sometime next year and may include some time at FW. If so, I do not plan to rent a golf cart this time unless we only plan to stay at FW and not do any parks.

Thank you for all the information!

I haven't decided if it's too mean to explain that the reason there is so much Disney is because Disney is nearby, but we're staying at a cabin this trip and we'll come back... lol! Maybe we'll tell her before we arrive. Hm.
