Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

We enjoy taking the Disney Transportation for all the reasons mentioned -- specifically we love the FT. Wilderness boats, to go to and from MK as well as to get to Epcot -- we take the Ferry to the CR and then monorail to TTC and then the Monorail from TTC to Epcot. No traffic, relaxing ride and it takes less than 10 minutes.

Does anyone have any maps of running routes around FW? I am training for a mud run this October and will need to run a few mornings when we are there.

So excited, we will be here in Jan and I was so happy to see how easy it is to get to MK from here (and my DD (4.5 then) LOVES boats! She will be super happy!

Wow, that is fast. TFS!

149 days to wait and we will finally be checking in to our cabins and experiencing the World for the first time. I have only waited 64 years for this! These boards are so helpful. I have learned that I was wrong in telling my children to bring big strollers for the little ones so they would have some storage soe jackets, snacks, etc. they say it is better with the umbrella strollers because they fold up smaller for the bus, boat and train rides, and that you can carry backpacks with you on the rides.

So for we have planned to go to Magic Kingdom on our 1st day, Monday, 12/22. It will be our longest and busiest day, because we want to stay for the Wishes show. We have breakfast scheduled at the Crystal Palace and dinner at the Plaza Restaurant. Can anyone tell me if there are sitting areas at the designated smoking areas? My husband walks with a cane, though we may bring a walker for him on this day, just to help him out. We know the little ones are going to ride the train, can you take strollers and walkers on the train?

Our second day will be Hollywood Studios, and we will probable get a little later star and be able to take it easy because there isn't to many things there for the little ones to do. My adult son says he is going to do the star tours, the star tours and the Toer of Terror, then the Star Tours agin, lol. Anyway we hope to be able to keep the kiddos going long enough to see the Osborne Family Spectacular Dancing Lights, Do they only do that one time each night? Or do they do it several times?

I finally managed to get ADR's for the Trails End for dinner on Christmas Day!

That is all we really have planned at the moment! Oh, except for the Holiday Sleigh Rides on Christmas Eve!

:thumbsup2 :cool1: for a Fort stay!! She'll love the boat rides. If you've never been to the WL or CR, you can ride one of the smaller boats over and check them out. Both are very beautiful resorts but very different.

How exciting!!! They are right....easier to fold up. Refresh my memory. How old are the children? Toddler age? We always rented strollers from Orlando Stroller Rental. They are super nice strollers and very comfortable for the kids. The stroller company will deliver to the resort. Also, they were super easy to fold up.

Since you're only a boat ride away from the MK, have you thought about going back mid-day to rest? Just speaking from experience, staying all day with young children can be very taxing on the kids and parents. Again, not sure how old they are.

There are seats in some of the smoking areas. I don't recall if there are seats in all of them.

Also, just throwing this out there. Maybe y'all could rent a scooter for your husband. Walking around at Disney can be really tough especially with crowds. Does the walker fold up? And you can take strollers on the train as long as you can fold it up.

It's been years since we've done this, so I'm not really sure. Here is a link that might give you some helpful info.

Osborne lights go from the time they start (dusk-ish) until park close. Although it doesn't run full show the whole time (you will understand what that means when you see it;) you can also look it up on YouTube), it runs very frequently. It even snows at various times!!!!

The toddlers are ages 3 and 4, and yes we did consider going back to the cabins early afternoon for a break, then I read how the park might close for over-crowding and then we may not be able to get back in! I will check on that stroller rental, it would save some room in the cars for our drive from Texas, lol.

The walker does fold up, but, regarding the scooter, should we decide to rent one, do they go on the train? I mean if we decide to ride the train from one side of the park to the other side I would hope that strollers and scooters, etc are allowed on the train!

Hi Cathy! :wave2:

What a great age to enjoy the characters! My DD and DS were 3 and 4 on their first visit. It was so neat because they both truly believed that all the characters were real...lots of magic!

We rented those strollers several times and REALLY liked them. They also have a few different options, too. We also rented the rain covers which came in super handy. See below ;)

I always feel sorry for people when it rains (and it does quite often in FL) and their strollers get soaked. The kids can actually sit inside the stroller with the covers on....super handy!!

The scooters or ECVs can be rented at the parks, but it's first come first serve and they're usually gone fairly quickly. There are other places in Orlando that rent and will deliver to the resorts. Unfortunately you can't load an ECV on the train unless that's changed.

The parks have been known to close :( When we were there last Christmas, or actually the 27th- 29th, none of the parks closed. You just never know.

How about OKW or SSR? I think we had a group close to the size of yours at one of them 5 years ago. Probably less expensive -- but you do have to deal with the fact that everyone will be with everyone 24/7 which, with my family, keeps the stress level higher than I prefer!

Tom

Thanks, Tom. Looks like everything is pretty booked that week. I'm still going to work on a plan to visit the Fort at some point. It sounds great!

Where did you rent those strollers from? I really like that cover idea! After looking at google earth maps of the Magic Kingdom, I think I have decided to rent or buy a wheel chair for my husband. That place is huge, and because it will so crowded, I am afraid he might accidentally be running in to people. The wheel chair will be better for him I thing, because when he wants to get out and walk a bit to stretch his legs, he can use the wheel chair like a walker and hold on to it.

My wife thinks I am overplanning. But my reasoning is that if you plan like most people, thinking of only one option for each part of each day, something won't work and you will get easily disappointed. I want to know enough so that WHEN something goes wrong, I will be able to think of a reasonable alternatively quickly and easily.

My husband knows that I am an over-planner. I am on the boards everyday. My 15 year old daughter thinks I am crazy. I, ever so gently :rotfl2:, remind them that they have a "magical" time because of all of the time and energy that I have put into planning. You have to have a backup for your backup.

I can't help you much with busing. We are drivers. We took one bus last time we were at Disney. We were staying at POR. It took us forever to get to and from AK. What would have taken us 10 minutes to drive, took us 40 minutes because of all of the stops. The bus was crowded and we were all standing. We decided that we would prefer to drive ourselves. That way we can go to and from, no stops, and not be on a crowded bus. Parking is free when staying on property so no parking fees. That is just us. I am hoping that I can convince him to take the boat to MK. I think that would be awesome. If he doesn't want to, maybe the kids and I could take the boat and he could drive. LOL. We'll see.

40 days to check in:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

How in the world do you find such incredibly useful info??!! Or should I say, how do you have time to find this stuff?!!? I'm convinced you have an inside source :scratchin

Thanks! Going to put this at the beginning of the thread!!

That sounds like a great plan, Cathy. :thumbsup2

Orlando Stroller Rentals

We've rented the City Mini Single, City Mini Double, and City Elite Single. The latter being our favorite. The double was good, but kinda wide and hard to maneuver in and out of shops, etc. It was nice not having to pack 2 strollers in the car...saved lots of room.

Arriving at the Fort in 55 days... Quick question :thumbsup2

Do we need to bring our own towels for swimming or are there some at the pool for guest use?

You will need your own unless you have a cabin they supply plenty of towels you can use!

We are in a cabin! :) Coolio!

Two more questions... at the Meadows Pool, is there an age limit for the kiddie area? My oldest is 8 and I know she will want to spend time with her little brothers and sister.

What is the closest grocery store to the Fort?
